Title: The Storm is Coming!
the_cobbinator - December 27, 2006 09:53 PM (GMT)
Alright, before we get started on the website (we still can use people!), we should have a massive brainstorm. Just list off whatever you want to be on the site, both in terms of features and content. If you think 'x' would be cool, post it up. We'll go back through later and decide what stays and what goes.
There's only one rule: No criticism. You may build off other ideas, but this is not the place to pass judgement.
Have at it!

How about if every org has thier own page?
Solidus - December 27, 2006 11:00 PM (GMT)
Yeah with descriptions and member lists would be good. With links to the recruitment and chat topics etc.
JCC - December 27, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
Aww man, I thought it was another religious extremist telling us to convert. Spoil my darn fun like that.
...
Is it frightening that I should be used to that?
... Aaaaaaaaanyway, I think some walkthroughs and stuff for the game would be could, we could post what we have here, add on it, put in what's okay for the walkthrough etc, just another fun forum activity. ^_^
ADJ - December 27, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
^Things like that are already planned; walkthroughs, reviews, features, etc. Well thought of though. :D
Org pages sound great... there's not much I can think of at the minute. Some sort of forum history?
JCC - December 27, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
MGSF Facts were always a hit; but they turned out to be fake.
Bummer.
krypton_ls - December 28, 2006 12:18 AM (GMT)
MGSF history would be a good idea - you could link to that site where they show you what the site was like back a few years ago.
I think that blogs may be a good idea too, or not of course. For the staff and/or org leaders, and then decide to make them public or not, or something so that org's could produce or publish material for the rest of the forum. Like some space they could use for announcements or... just generally. Just trying to bounce some ideas around.
How about downloadable content?

I'm all up for that. It'd be great.
We can post up updates and all about our org on the page so other members will know what's going on with the rest of the gangs.
And yeah I think we should have some downloads and walkthroughs for games. It'd be great. Is there even a chance there'll be an arcade?
Solid Turd - December 28, 2006 01:10 AM (GMT)
I am building my own website: Metal Gear Solid Facts.com but I'm still building it but I have full lists of weapons, characters, Metal Gears, etc. Is that what this is all about?
Snake Liquid - December 28, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
Don't know if anyone mentioned this but like I told you on MSN cobb, I think that character bios of the MG and MGS series would be pretty cool.

I could do em, hell I have a bio on Big Boss that is 31 pages long including pictures of him from every game he was in. Except for MGS2
OcelotSnake - December 28, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
Well I decided to have a sort of YouTube style for SMS, where people can upload there own content. I know Kojima Productions are planning on releasing a MGS style myspace next year, interactivity is all the rage at the momment ;)
Theres plenty of far more established metal gear sites that provide walkthroughs and all that crap so I'd suggest trying something different. Quite what that'd be is beyond me ^_^

What?!?! My facts are 100% true! ;)
As for the site, We a section on Hideo Kojima himself.
*Puppy has nothing. :(

My little contribution;
Downloadable game saves for PC versions of MGS games. You could also host roms and emulators so people can download MG1, MG2 and MG Ghost Babel.

I.... don't think that that's exactly allowed with, well, you know... the copyrights and stuff. I just have a feeling that Kojima-sama wouldn't exactly love that idea.

Well, I think ROMs are legal if the person who downloads the ROM owns the actual game. So, it really is up to the person downloading it to abide by the law.

True on that, but do you really think that people would not download them, if they did not have the original ones? I kinda think that everyone whom would download them doesn't own the originals at all.
I'm sorry, but I have to go against this idea...
But how about GMV's?

RossSP - December 28, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
I like the org page and walkthrough ideas.
Personally I would like there to be a facility for uploading video walkthroughs or something, section-by-section for example.
Or even a clear code database, just to see how we shape-up against each other :P

I think the uploading of videos is good. Maybe not walkthroughs, as that would be quite difficult, but maybe fan made tribute like videos.
@Caldera: What's a GMV? :huh:

Indeed so - but it is risky though. If you follow the copyrights then it is 100% the user's responsibility to download it or not, and MGSF cannot get prosecuted (for example) over it if they have followed everything correctly; it is the user's fault.

This is true. And, surely if you put a notice saying that it's illegal to download unless the user has a copy of the game already, you can't get prosecuted. As long as Solidus has the games, as he would undoubtedly be the owner of the site, then he won't get prosecuted.

I'm sure people don't need the site as their base for old MG rom downloads. If they want them; a quick google search will work fine. No need to put Solidus in a position where he could be prosecuted.
Otacon - December 29, 2006 03:10 AM (GMT)
Yeah. The site is in sol's name (as far as I am aware. So if anything bad happened it'd be sol meeting bubba and not the person who downloaded it. Not a good idea. And plus. The game saves could only really be used on the PC versions anyway?
the_cobbinator - December 29, 2006 06:03 AM (GMT)
Guys, guys. we can work out all of the kinks later. Ideas, ideas, ideas are what we need right now. Quantity will lead to quality, so post up whatever you can come up with.
Solid Turd - December 29, 2006 06:23 AM (GMT)
Character Bios
Weapons
Equipment
Special Suits
Metal Gear Models
Sound Tracks
Game Guides
Game Scripts
Fan Fiction
Hows that for Ideas? Anyway I just completed my bio on Gray Fox, it's 14 pages long siginificanly shorter than my Big Boss one. I also have lists of these various things already done.

And I'm definately up for the fanfic! Can't wait to have my TUT there!
Oooohhhh! How about a rating system there as well! :o
-Caldera
Solid Snake The Great - December 29, 2006 12:29 PM (GMT)
The rating system sounds good. Not sure how it would work though. Unless you mean something like the IF Pip's system?
Solid Turd - December 29, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
Yould could aslo consider spoofs.
Solid Snake The Great - December 29, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
Another idea of mine is that you could have a page where it tells people about MGO or MPO online tournaments and a seperate page for clans. I think lots of people would be interested in it.

You could build on this by having a page where members could sign up to the MGSF matches that someone could organise on a weekly basis for those that have the game and play online a lot.

I like that idea. :) We could also have a page which displays the result, and the people in the winning team and the losing team. Although, this would use up lots of space. :/

It is text my friend, which uses next to no space. ^_^
But certainly something themed around PO would be good to bring in people that are members to play regularly and also outsiders could join in too. Who knows where this could lead to? :)
Yackemflaber - December 30, 2006 03:28 AM (GMT)
how about a whole section for Yackemflaber? :P
kidding, of course.
Well I don't really know what it should have that other websites don't already have. How about a section for fan-created movies?
snake_ultsol - December 30, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)

krypton_ls - January 2, 2007 07:04 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys for the positive comments on my glorious ideas, :) certainly it could start off for PO and could then extend it for other games perhaps?
Depending on success, you could get a team together to battle other forums (!) or have tournaments between yourselves!
the_cobbinator - January 6, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
I see some great ideas :)
Are there any forum-specific features any of you would like to see? Be as obvious as possible. If you like the buttons up at the top of the post box, mention those. Smilies? If you like 'em, say it.
For moderators or admins, what are some tools that would make your life easier? How should the Mod/Admin CP work?
Puppy - January 6, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
Something I'd like to see:
-A counter that a user can see for how many times a link in his sig has been clicked. Therefor, you can decide if it's worth keeping or not.
Thats all I can think of now. I'll might post more later.
