Title: OMFG-MGO servers are coming to a close
Midna - February 28, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)
Yes its true, turn on your ps2 and look at the news section in MGO, the servers are closing on April 2nd 2007. Its been a bumpy ride, but a good try konami, hopefully MGS4 Online will make up for it.
R.I.P. MGO:Subsistence

What the fucking hell? Isit Europe, USA or both? And a link would be really nice.
EDIT: ah, found it.
http://www.metalgearsolid.org/show_news.php?id=1020Well, atleast it's not Europe. Otherwise that would be right kick up the arse.
OcelotSnake - February 28, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
Kojima Productions dare not do it to us as the fricking game was delayed here, in europe, for almost a year xD There making room for the European MPO servers I reckon...and possibly MGS4!? (shock horror :P )
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - February 28, 2007 12:51 AM (GMT)
Not that this was stated hours ago in my topic earlier, but that aside. I'd say its safe to pick up a PSP to continue the fight eh? Well Imma hop on my real name from now on and see how far I can go on it. currently

I severely regret not having got Subsistence sooner then. I'm really happy L_M had me get into MGSPO as it's so fun. Hopefully I get a chance to play it through the European servers if my plan for getting Action Replay with MGS3:S PAL works.
And while having MGS4 online would really be a nice pick me up...I really still want to experience MGS3:S online.
Hey...if it does go down, would anyone like to organize an underground online structure? I wouldn't help much but I could most definitely be a leader for it. My resources are pretty l33t.
Snake Liquid - February 28, 2007 01:02 AM (GMT)
I got the game when it was first out, I had some sweet times on there and made it to Doberman legitly. I should have been in at least the top 300 without all the statboosters and glitchers. MGO was destroyed because of the glitchers but I am sad to hear its leaving. I still get on occasionly and without having that option it will feel odd.
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - February 28, 2007 01:23 AM (GMT)
Yeah I hear ya Snake_Liquid. It's gonna feel wierd. I'm actully just to combat the emptyness Buy a PSP and Get MGS:PO.
Markthecool - February 28, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
So long MGO :( I had some good times with you and also bad but if it wasn't for MGO I should not meant some great people on there even found MGSF thanx to MGO got me interested into MGS series even more. Well there's nothing to do but to enjoy these last times playing -_-.
whitetigerx7 - February 28, 2007 02:55 AM (GMT)
I get invited into a clan finally and now this crap happens. I hate to say it but Konami should have waited till MGS4 arrives as MPO sucks compared to MGO. MPO is hacker hell now! Some guys even have unbeatable modded characters or it takes forever to kill them.
Some guy has a petition to try and stop it but he has 880 signature including mine but it'll be a miracle if it works. Here's the link:
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/...?ltlz1170550360
Vash_Landers - February 28, 2007 03:23 AM (GMT)
Well I signed it, but I doubt it will help. That totally sucks. Has Konami even noticed that most the glitchers have left MGO? the last 5 times I've gotten on to play I didnt run into a single glitcher, where usually theres 2 or more every game. Damn this is aweful. they should wait till the MGS4 servers are ready, its only fair
-Solid Snake- - February 28, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
I only started since newyears and now this wow hopefully MGS4 ONline will have a lot less glitchers and hopefully kojami will do something about the statebosster laggers cheaters glitchers etc. so we could have a fun game to play
I think the first few months of MGO2 will be fun but almost everygame has glitches that those damn glitchers look for.
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - February 28, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
I think the upside will be that Konami won't be so lax about everything. If this MGO is the test and MGO2 the real deal...I think we have a winner
edflam311 - February 28, 2007 05:27 AM (GMT)
MGO was reallllllllly bad, i played for maybe a week then gave up too laggy etc.....
this is a good thing, i view this version of MGO as a test trial for MGS4.
an idea.......making room for MGS4 alpha/beta test?
[S3]Alt Eisen - February 28, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
First and foremost, I don't know what my real response to MGO shutting down is. While the experience over all had dropped severely from anything that could be remotely called "fun", I'm kind of puzzled to why they're shutting it down now.
MPO, just didn't do anything for me. Personally, I prefer the set weapon choices at the beginning of a match/respawn, and the fact that everyone (as long as they weren't glitching) had the same set health and stamina.
If MGS4 was just around the corner, I'd say that it was time to shut the doors on MGO. It would make sense then. However, there are still several months, and chances of delays (more like definite chances of delays...it's an MGS game) before MGS4 is released.
If Konami would have done more to stop the glitchers and tried to keep MGO an enjoyable experience, things might be different now. They didn't, and so many stopped playing. Those early days though, man they were a blast.
Guess it won't be till MGS4 when S3 will make their return.
whitetigerx7 - February 28, 2007 06:22 AM (GMT)
I agree Alt. They could have done more to make MGO better but why they chose not to is unknown. Then this news? Sheesh as my buddy _Jon_ told me today... "It was better when there was no news at all." Kinda soured my day actually.
Konami and Hideo did say they had a surprise for us all... if this was the surprise... may they rot in hell.
Man games just don't last long online anymore.
The Doom servers stayed open forever till ID Software went public and allowed people to host their own games. Bungie Software STILL has the Halo 2 servers up and running after all this time and Halo 2 isn't even that good.
Well on the last day I'm taking a snapshot of my stats and putting them in a text file on my PC. After that I'm deleting my accounts voluntarily. Konami won't be taking my stats from me. No way, no how, no chance in hell.
I'll bury my own account thank you very much.
Soriddo Suneku - February 28, 2007 12:36 PM (GMT)
This is just un-fuckin-forgivable.
Screw Konami.
Alt, I'm going to try to get a 360 soon, I suggest you do the same.
We're going to Vegas, and I reckon were going to kill just about every damn thing we see there.
Banshee - February 28, 2007 01:44 PM (GMT)
Petition! It's the only reason I bought that game!
Protest, Petition.. RABBLE!
Jiro - February 28, 2007 03:54 PM (GMT)
Once I get up the scratch to get a 360 that is where I'll be going for Vegas. But most likly the next online game I play will be Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
micster - February 28, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
you know - someone could always set up a server and try hacking the disk to lead to that instead of konamis
BigK - February 28, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
Ah good riddens, it was fun when it was popular, but after all the glitching, I just said "fuck it," and stopped playing. MPO is nowhere near as good as Subsistence, since glitchers are just as bad as ever. Now I'm onto bigger and better things, Socom Fireteam Bravo 2. There's always 20,000 people playing, at minimum late at night, 9,000. Mics always work, 16 total people in a single game, and you can customize characters. Rainbow Six: Vegas Lockdown however, is without a doubt, the most brilliant tactical game I've ever played. But I really prefer playing split screen with Darren and AJ then I do with online. *Costs less.*
But still, R.I.P. MGO, hopefully MGO4 will be better. But personally, I think the reason MGO was so much better then Subsistence is because it was its' own separate game to MGS3. MPO online was in the same game as MGS:PO. So MGO4 better be better then MGO.
Willum - February 28, 2007 05:18 PM (GMT)
Thats a shame, I was thinking about getting the game and a network adaper as well. Looks like I'll be sticking with MPO then.
eloyolo - February 28, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
grrrr
damn, if at least there was the possibility of playing LAN with MGO, now we wont be able to even see the maps again or play with someone else.
I guess ill sell my ps2... or shall i wait for god of war 2?

I've thought about getting a 360 for awhile now. Vegas (there's a new map pack coming out soon), the Gundam Game (I can't help that I got a thing for first person combat that actually has in-cockpit views, as well as infantry fighting the giant mechs from my favorite anime series), and Forza 2 (it's predecessor was probably the first racing-sim that actually improved physics over say...GT3, since GT4 was kind of a let down).
Then there's the fact that you can play Street Fighter 2 on the online arcade thing that 360 has. I'm not sure if you can play against others, but if I can get the joy I used to have in the arcade beating people down...well...it might be worth it. Plus the fact it would mean I'd have a current generation system and the possibility of more new games, even if I'm not an extremely big fan of the 360.
At the same time Vegas is going to be on PS3 (which I will have to purchase eventually), and there's car payments, and performance modifications I'd like to purchase for my RX-7, so I don't really know.
A lot of options to weigh.
SolidSnake52 - February 28, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
Damnit! I am getting my PS2 online adapter in April and now i realize i can't play MGO. That is a major kick up the arsehole
whitetigerx7 - February 28, 2007 09:05 PM (GMT)
I spent roughly $100 all just to play MGO. The LAN Adapter, the Keyboard, and the Headset. Each was invested solely for MGO and nothing else.
This brings back that line from An Officer and A Gentleman.
"I can't leave! I have nowhere else to go!"
The Ratchet and Clank Online stuff has already ended, and so has lots of other stuff as well. Besides I'm not into Rainbow 6 nor Splinter Cell either and SOCOM is stupid compared to MGO.
MGO was and still is the best online game for the PS2.
I'll take the glitchers over the hackers any day.
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - February 28, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
^ Agreed. Atleast with the glitchers that think they're cool its even funnier to glitch them right back. I mean sure two wrongs don't make a right but, It's still funny as hell as long as the host doesn't mind. I mean when you have some one spec glitch an' then you spec glitch them....that's just damn funny
I'm really gonna miss MGO. Maybe I'll take a screen shot of my stat's and try to get on a few Youtube videos. actually I think we should do that. All of us should get back on for the last few days of MGO and just record videos of us Playing I don't care what mode either.
But when the MGO servers close...I don't really want to go back to Resistance: Fall of Man either its just not the same doesn't even cut it. I'm not bad but I'm not good either. There's really not that "Tactical" Feel either...I mean MGO didn't have it so much everyone went around out an about like Rambo with the exception of Alt, Zy, or Gray and a few others. Resistance is kinda like.."Hey I'm goin' to travel in this small pack of two guys right here....and hope this lone grenade gets lucky" or my favorite "I really hope someone falls right into this bullseye trap"
there's also no way in Hell now that Im pickin' up a PSP right yet for MGS:PO online either. I just saw the board at Gamefaqs.com. which usually consists of half the games population and THEY'RE ALL FRIGGIN CHEATERS/HACKERS!! well ok the majority of them...one guy Blatantly posted a Character and Stat's Hacking guide, sure they're were people against it but.....man.

I've signed the petition. Although I doubt Konami will give a damn.
@Midna: Stop spamming
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - March 1, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
Well I found out not too long ago that Konami of America actually isn't in charge of the US servers but Konami of Japan. Actually that probably has nothing to do with anything but, I say this is all marketing for MGS:PO, I mean it did get alot of sales the first week or so but.....do you really need to market a metal gear game by shutting one's online down. But maybe for a minute we try to find a bright side to this all and. All those nerdy kids who don't have a life that park themselves right next to a router have to pick up a new hobby other than ruining my game.
stitch3z - March 1, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
I would seriously pay a monthly fee if it meant they could invest in anti-hacker tools and patches. Many online games have them now, and they aren't really that much of a pain.
I mean if there are say 200 users each with $10 a month that's a really nice chunk of change to add to that.
I hope you hear us KP.
Petition signed.
Oh btw micster I'm with you if you wanna try that out lol. I'm serious.

You CAN'T be serious. I know it's MGS, but from what I've heard and seen game isn't even CLOSE to being worth PAYING to play it. Buy yourself WoW instead.
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - March 2, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
I don't think I'd pay $10 monthly for MGO, no I'm just not THAT crazy about it. Besides now that I have Virtua Fighter 5 one of the games I've been waiting for a looooong time. I think I'll be all set once MGO closes. That and once I get some extra cash I'll pick up Rogue Galaxy, and Xenosaga III:Also sprach Zarathrusta
Jiro - March 2, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
Once the service ends all someone will have to do is hack the source code on it to start up their own servers. Now routing it to that server....that would be difficult.
Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - March 2, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
I was thinking that actually, but then I remembered I can't hack and I'm not a computer Guru. Well the bright side of starting our own servers is....We can patch and update stuff once we all learn how, like NEW MAPS
honestly If I see another Head Shots at KH-B, I'm about ready to pull a Psycho Mantis and suicide myself.
Paine_L - March 9, 2007 04:00 PM (GMT)
I too signed the Petition as #3,021. Man, I can't believe they're goal is 100,000. I dont want mgo to be gone from me. I have mpo but i dont like that much. Its freakin hard to aim on the psp. I had so much fun on mgo with the mic and everything, mpo dont got that. its not fare!! :( :( :(
L_M - March 10, 2007 06:30 AM (GMT)
Can't someone buy the rights to the server? Then have a disclaimer that it's a third party controlling it before the online play.
Willum - March 12, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
Konami have announced that only the US servers are closing. The ones in Europe will still be active:
http://kotaku.com/gaming/metal-gear-solid/...rope-243352.phpI guess you need to get an Euro import if you're in the US.
whitetigerx7 - March 12, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
I don't see why they didn't make MGO worldwide. Wouldn't have hurt anyone and I know plenty of gamers here in the states that play on the EU servers with PS2s with PAL-to-NTSC converters
