Title: what substance could have been

redfox45 - March 31, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
you know i didnt mind substance but i thaught it was a bit..pointless with the snake tales and the skateboarding and the vr missions there was no need

with all the disc space they used up with all this pontless kack
why not actuelly tell the big shell incident from snakes perspective (freezing the shell 2 bombs, taking on olga, fighting fortune) wouldnt that be better than the snake tales?

or if they didnt want to do that why not tell some ACTUEL snake tales, tales of snake and philanthropy taking on the metal gears around the world instead of cuting snake out and pasting him into the big shell to take on bosses we have already faught 100 times, half pleasing the people who wont stop bitching about the fact that raiden looks gay and saying "I AINT NOT PLAYIN AS NO FA-GOT BOI!"

they dont have to be philanthropy missions, as long as they are not things like
*rescue emma
*kill vamp in filter chamber 2
*take a picture of a gigantic russian soldier in the sea (<what in gods name was that all about)
just take the time to make us a few new rooms to explore, how hard is that? give us a reason to buy this game AGAIN
the whole game just seemed half assed to me

Hmmm or they could of made it so you could play Snakes or Riadens view of the story and get diffrent endings.

I totally agree, Raidens ending was for Raiden and Snake was just thrown in,
kinda annoying, u deserve to have a seperate ending if u put effort in

Pfft. Substance was awesome. Yes, the extra features were not worthy of a new game, but that was the whole point: it was supposed to be an expansion pack thing anyway. The VR missions got everyone scrambling to have their finish codes compared to others, the Snake Tales were just putting a fresh spin on the areas you would play a hundred times anyway: I loved the Meryl Snake Tale (can't remember it's name) running through the Tanker section as MGS1 Snake floated my boat... different guard patrols, no radar, different weapons... can't deny it; that was fun.

Some of the Snake Tales were obviously just Kojima having a laugh: notably the Snake Tale with the "huge swimming Russian soldier" and all that craziness about alternate universes and such was just him flexing his creative muscles, and very likely a nod towards the slightly obscure ending to Sons of Liberty.

The VR missions, though repititive, were fun. Plus, if you can't be stuffed getting 100% on everything just bust "UUDDLRLRABBA" into the name input to unlock every mission and character, letting you pick and play only your favourite ones. Play as :fox: play as Snake :snake: play as Raiden :raiden: and you even get to see Meryl again! :meryl: Sounds good to me. :thumb:

And the Snakeboarding. ... Well it was pretty crap haha you don't get anything for getting perfect, but the punk cover of the MGS theme was pretty sweet.

Substance ruled. Go buy it if you haven't already.

it's suposed to be like the VR missions game he came out with the little side missions and all i found it entertaining and who said Kojima-san had to be serious all the time? why cant he just let loose in a game and just make it fun and dumb at the same time?

well i think the VR was a good idea. i mean, it had more VR missions than the actual VR game for the PSX. and the skateboarding was just kinda there. and i agree with the idea that snake should have had his own ending. but i think doing that would have probably taken too much time and effort for anyone to want to do.

I've played Substance a few times and I think it's not crap. Sure, it may not be necessary for SoL owners like me, but the extras were still quite fun. Of course it could have been better, but it still has some funny stuff in there.

yeah i agree. we need to remember that substance is not a completely different game, but is only supposed to have some extra features. oh and the snake tales were very strange indeed, especially with that giant "sea monster" and alternate univereses.....weird....
