Title: Missing MGO yet?

Swift Fox - April 16, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
Man, I've been missing MGO so bad now. I miss coming home from school and plopping my ass on the couch, or going down to my friend's house, to play MGO. I miss playing with some of my old buddies I met in the game, such as the entire [nGs] clan, Dantè~My Clan~ , ..m¡mò.. , and The PredatÖr. I really hope to meet The PredatÖr again in MGS4 online, he was quite a character. How 'bout u others who have been deprived of MGO now?

micster - April 16, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
Well i've still got MGO here in the UK but I will miss it when and if it goes...

mind you by then MPO will be out and probably the japanese MGS4 so is all goood

SolidSnake52 - April 16, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
Hm... I never played it so what can I say? Wish I could have though

Fluffy - April 16, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah I miss it a lot, right when I started kicking ass they closed....

Lol but I am a SLO. I get it on purpose so epople under-estimate me. =P

I remember the good old days..... I always used to make my ALL WELCOME! games where it got full in a minute or so.

Snake Liquid - April 16, 2007 09:42 PM (GMT)
I agree with you Swift. It was the only decent online game I ever had for PS2. I played it on and off. I never entered a game unless it was hosted by one of my friends though. The glitching and lagging got so bad in the game, it was kinda unfun after awhile.

I guess its just disheartening to not have the feeling that if I ever did want to play it, I can't now.

Swift Fox - April 16, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
Even though it's gone, I still accomplished everything I wanted too. Such as becoming FOX, being the most skilled member in my clan, and having some of my other friends start playing (and joining my clan) and enjoying it as much as I did.

Buffy - April 16, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
Never played it much, so can't say i miss it.

sadistic_greyfox - April 16, 2007 11:47 PM (GMT)
after playing the game day after day same map over and over again for like 4 months it got sort of boring to me. If i do miss anything it's the days when it first started up when everyone was friendly and glitching was basically nonexistent.

BigK - April 17, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Likewise. I loved sniping, but I have MPO, only I lag a lot...

Swift Fox - April 17, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
It never got boring for me. Only thing that kept it interesting was it wasn't going to be the same thing everyday. Even though everyday was the same place, 99 CAP in GGL, everyday was still different, noobs would have different ways to die by my hand :P Another thing that kept it's boredom far from me was that the next day I would be lower in rank for my favorite game, CAP.

whitetigerx7 - April 18, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
I remember me, Nam, HEADSHOTER, and DRAGON SOLDIER would wait forever for a team to go up against us in Ghost Factory for TDM, RES, and CAP. People would come and go but the games were always interesting and fun.

MGO was just one of those games that come along and people like it because it's different from all the rest out there.

Austin McLane - April 18, 2007 11:10 PM (GMT)
It saddens me because I wanted it so bad but my parents wouldnt let me have it so I though next year maybs, but no. I was pissed as hell when I found out it closed. T_T

Swift Fox - April 19, 2007 01:20 AM (GMT)
That sucks man. Too bad u won't be able to enjoy it as much as I did.

Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - April 21, 2007 05:54 PM (GMT)
I'll never forget playing with [ACM]Omega. He was by far my best friend in that entire Game. Afterwards I became really good friends with (KKC) Ocelot and <BoH> Project and after awhile I met <BoS> Stoned on his alt Poot. which shocked me cuz I hadn't seen him inawhile. And he was Insane with a knife too but then again so were Ocelot and Project.

redfox45 - April 21, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
can nowone play it anymore? ever?

Liquidon Snake - May 12, 2007 03:44 PM (GMT)
Could someone please clarify for me why it was taken offline? I never understood that.

Swift Fox - May 12, 2007 07:27 PM (GMT)
I'm not really too sure y it was taken off. But I believe it was becuase it was just a test basically for MGS4 online. IMO, they should've just kept it up until MGS4 is actually released, I could've easily been F.H by now :(

NickRocks - May 12, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
i came in after the glitchers had taken over, but ill never forget my first game, when captain sake taught me pretty much how to play the online way. i never got to face him and show him my skills when i became HOU, but oh well, theres always MGS4.

aside from that, i dont miss MGO as much as i miss the maps and the modes. i miss SNE. i wish it was on MPO in some way.

Konoha no Jiraiya-Sama - May 13, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
Nick I feel so flattered. Yeah after you brought that up I can remember it. Though I wish I was better...you caught me at one of my downpoints.

Can't say I miss MGO Too much. Though however I will say I miss MGO's golden age a whole lot where everyone was still a noob. Headshots were a rare thing and Autolocking was the only way. I really miss those days.

40A - May 16, 2007 12:00 AM (GMT)
I MISS it SO much!!!! I loved online. Nothing like getting a headshot, then glitchers screwed the online game play, but every now and then you'd have some good games. Hopefully MGS4 is like Halo online..... what I mean is.... upgrades, moderators, shit loads of people, and you can play with uk and Japanese people.

I miss it so much..... don't really have $600 though

PolishCowboy - May 16, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
that was a great game till the glitchers came in. gettin some one with CQC was really fun. lol. wow i kinda miss it now.

L!qu!d_Oc3lot - May 29, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)
I miss MGO i wish it was still up and running.

Bagshot - May 29, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
What exactly did the glitchers do?

Dani - May 31, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
Bagshot: This should tell you all you need to know;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glitching

Bagshot - May 31, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I knew what glitching was, I just wanted an example of an MGO glitch.

Mjr.Snake - May 31, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)
QUOTE (Bagshot @ May 31 2007, 05:29 PM)
Yeah, I knew what glitching was, I just wanted an example of an MGO glitch.

well there are these dicks that use glitches to kill people to get their rank up and the they can be proud that they have F.H which they hav gotten by pur noobness.
there are several glitches and the most common is the invisible glitch : you hang from somewhere for example on the mountaintop map you run down from a cliff's edge and hang on the edge, then pull out the cable, then quickly pull yourself up and whack the cable back in. Then the game think's ur hanging from that cliff but actually ur running aroun and killing everybody, but the can't see u.

So there are ALOT of glitches in MGO but I'll explain 1 more, The most frustrating one : The dead body glitch. I'm not sure how this works but I know that you have to be the game host or an advanced glitcher to this : you pull ou the cable commit suicide, select your weapons and stick the cable back in ... So basicly ur dead but you can frag people. So the thing that makes the glitch so frustrating is that there is nothing you can fucking do to show that he would get owned like a bitch if he wouldn't use that glitch ... cause he's dead. How do you kill a dead man LOL. With the inv glitch you can find the glitcher and kill him or stun him but nothing to do with the dead man glitch.

*I was refering to a glitcher by a word "you" coz it was easier to write this way LOL

*and I really hope that no noob is going to use these glitches, coz I still have MGO and if somebody uses a glitch then they are the only target for me LOOL !

Raiden/Snake - June 7, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
im getting the ps3 network adaptor just for this game so i can play online!
Im in the UK so will get to play it hopefully, correct me if IM wrong

whitetigerx7 - June 13, 2007 07:15 AM (GMT)
When it came to deadbody I just left, rejoined, and tagged the guy with a headshot and told him, "You did it wrong." Some times the guy just left the game and never returned or quit the game and ended the room.

There are tons of counters for every glitch out there and all people had to know was what to use. Most of the reason I spent so much time devoted to studying how to glitch was also studying how to counter that same glitch.

Some glitches were not actually glitches as I did find out but level utilizations and bugs that one could use to one's advantage.

For example the C.U.S. white roof drop and survive. If you normally fell from the white roof in the middle to the street you would die, except for the main street area where you could fall and bounce off the retaining wall and fall down unscathed.

technically it was either a level bug or maybe a easter egg programmed in for people to find and use to a strategical advantage. God knows how many times I actually used it during sneaking games, TDM, DM, and other games where moving to the courtyard area was suicidal.

KALASHsixtynine - June 19, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
hah i really miss mgo...i miss seeing everyone...

i remember me and you white trying to figure out ways to counter glitches...remember the one in pbp with the shipping containers...that was horrible...did we find a way to counter that one?

whitetigerx7 - June 19, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Leave and reenter was the only resolution to that one.

Back to the person who asked why MGO closed here is what I did learn after some inquires.

1. Glitching and statboosting couldn't be controlled by simple account deletions. There was no way to permanently ban someone's IP from the server. There was no way to manage accounts effectively.

2. MGS3's game engine was too much for the PS2 to handle. I made a topic on this regarding the "holes in the universe" bugs that were unavoidable due to the incomplete post processing taking place and areas where they had to leave things "unfinished".

3. MGO couldn't be updated at all. There was no utilization of the HDD which could have helped MGO dramatically.

THE PATRIOT - July 4, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
it is a really good game, i don't miss it purley because i still play it, but if it was gone i would seriously miss it. yes i do live in the UK but i havn't played on the game in a while, maby i should get the most out of it before the server goes offline completely?

If it ever come back online, i want you all to add it.

my name is Black Dragon my rank is crocodile i got 1652 kills 1525 headshots
256 deaths :)

Beowolf - November 4, 2007 05:32 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, definately. For a long time I hadn't played it, then in less than a week before it shut down, I wanted to play it one last time before it went offline. And either there were no good rooms to go in, or there were still glitchers....trying to increase their ranking before it went offline! <_<

Blue Phoenix - November 4, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
well its gone in europe now aswell. i miss it immensly, in the last year the only game iv played is metal gear online. everytime i pick up another game(online or off) iv just turned it off and gone back to mgo. as far as accomplishing what i wanted goes, there was one thing i didnt accomplish: and tht was achieving the status of kojima pro (only attainable through winning official konami hosted tournaments) my team reached 4th place....

but my achievements so to speak wer reacihng FOXHOUND rank on two seperate accounts and raking up over 600 hours and 20,000 kills. but to be honest the bit i miss the most is the friends i made when playing mgo :)

to be honest i think people are overkilling the idea that glitchers ruined the game, i mean most good hosts kicked glitchers straight away, and if they didnt u just left the game... or u could host your own games. in which case u could keep them in check. the only problem i ecountered was stat boosting noobs. people who didnt deserve the rank of FH (there wernt that many) but they ruined it for the rest of us. the rank of FH went from something to respected to something to be suspicious of.

well with all that is lost we will gain something new in mgo2... i hope to see u all there :)

Aquila - November 4, 2007 09:14 PM (GMT)
Tbh I'm not gonna miss it a whole lot, I was never that good at MGO <_< Unfortunately all the glitchers were already there and I never really got to grips with it -_- not sure why, propably cause i went for the stealth approach at the start lmao

Cobalt - November 7, 2007 05:43 PM (GMT)
Hell yeah I want to play it. In terms of a challenge, MGO was better than the main game. And it's still my favorite game right now. I cant wait till MGO2 comes out.

Blue: For some reason I couldnt create a game. So I was stuck putting up with glitchers that I couldnt boot. Not to mention lame hosts that would boot cause they got their ass handed to them B)
