Title: "Dont Lose The Codec"
Description: SPOILERS

So, i noticed something in TTS when replaying. When you kill sniper wolf and after the speeches, otacon says "Dont Lose The Codec".

But isnt the codec in your neck which is how it stimulates your ear bones? So how could you lose it

im not quite sure, ive always wondered about this too, bad planning on hideo's part?

Muikuli - April 18, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
Is that comment in the original or in TTS only? I can't figure the meaning of it either.

micster - April 18, 2007 06:55 PM (GMT)
Im not sure, I only heard it on my 4th go on TTS.

It´s only in TTS, i´m guessing Otacon meant the frecuency

raiDen_X - May 18, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
otacon saying ''that'' is like ME telling YOU not to FORGET me

''dont lose the codec''= dont forget me---i'll see you again someday

that type of thing----nothing major

Thats a good idea but at the end snake says about how the nanomachines will run out meaning he cant contact colonel so snake's codec must run off his nanomacines so that idea wouldent work

Or he's saying don't die.

... lol

liquidus118 - May 29, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)
I think nanomachines weren't used in MGS 1, but Ive only played the original, not TTS, so I think it was attached to his suit or something, unless there were nano's in TTS?

Errm, no.
The nanomachines are present in the original game. They’re in that shot Naomi gives you at the start… which also contained FoxDie, heh.

In any case, if I recall, MGS1 what when nanomachines started their purpose in the Metal Gear Solid storyline. This all so importantly introduced the CODEC, replacing the Radio.

I think that is right. He isn't actually saying to not lose the codec, he is saying it in a more figurative meaning. That is what I interpret anyways, because the nanomachines are inside him. That is how when Snake was captured, he was still able to talk to the Colonel and the rest of the support crew. Its the same when Raiden was captured in MGS2. He was still able to converse with his "crew" then because he still had the nanomachines.

I'm not sure what the batteries in the nanomachines meant, however. There wouldn't be any batteries small enough that could power something that small inside his ear.

Could be a few different things. Maybe its don't lose the frequency. Or it could be don't die. It could be keep in touch. Maybe he's refering to a frequency he was given? A code? (This one is far fetched because I don't remember any thing like this in TTS or MGS1) Maybe it means go on with the mission, don't lose the plot because Wolf is dead. Could be a whole load of things really, you could search the net for an answer maybe. Maybe its something that you have to take in your own way? It is quite an annoying one yes, lol. I'm gonna search it now see what I can find.

EDIT: Ah yes I found it. In the original game he says: "I'll hang onto my Codec. I wanna keep helping." So it means don't forget my frequency, keep calling. It's just a word change really, it wasn't very effective but thats what it means.

Eh, I still think it's cool to refer to the codec as his neck, and to say "Don't lose the codec" as if to say "Don't lose your head".
