Title: Metal Gear Solid Raiden's Rise
Description: The Story of Raiden Before MGS2
MGO_monkey - September 2, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
OK I know I dissed Raiden by saying he's gay and all, "even though if you notice hes immune to girly mags in MGS3, HE IS GAY" i still decided the best idea for a new MGS story was to make one of Raiden's rise to aFOXHOUND member, and VR missions buildup for his newly found strength, and intelligence. I.., this story takes place BEFORE MGS2. Hope you like it!
(BTW I KNOW ITS A WORK IN PROGRESS!!)
“Snake, do you remember the sinking of that tanker two years ago?” “Of course.” “Terrorists blew a hole in an oil tanker full of crude, barely twenty miles off the shore of Manhattan, your classic nightmare. It didn’t take long for the government to put an oil fence around the whole mess. And then that massive offshore cleanup facility went up inside.” “The Big Shell? I hear the cleanup isn’t quite over yet…”
METAL GEAR SOLID
Raiden’s Rise
“You are about to be placed in one of the most effective Virtual Training courses available to us at this point. Such courses are as follows, weapon training, bomb defusal, stealth and incognitos tactics and techniques, and virtual simulation of real situations, including enemies virtually programmed for training purposes ONLY. You begin in a month, so rest up.” I stood there, listening to this man rant on about my new placement in the VR mission system. Leaving my life behind for an intense honorable option such as VR missions meant no going back. I would no longer cast shadows of self pity or hatred. It had been destiny, to leave everything behind. To say goodbye to my past. To rid my name’s good and bad reputation. Even if it meant rebuilding myself working for FOXHOUND.
Chapter 1:
Jack’s New Name
“It was the longest month of my life, waiting for this new knowledge. All these new skills. I tried to leave everything in my mind back, to make it easier, but it all just came back in my horrific nightmares. The end of the month came, and as I paced cautiously to my VR briefing room, I had decided this was the right choice for me, well…for… “Intrinsic is your official codename now, Jack.” My VR instructor read off a sheet to me. Intrinsic? Intrinsic was my new name, or, what I’d go by. Whether or not I should’ve expected something so new, it came. I stood in front of my instructor, wondering if I should ask why this is my name. The words fell from my mouth without my mind’s permission. “Why, sir? What’s the meaning?” “The meaning? Guess I haven’t thought much of why I assign the names I assign. My suggestion is to not ask questions, Jack. Who knows, maybe you’ll figure out why for yourself, by the end of this training.
Ok, standard procedure for you Intrinsic, well, hoping you had time to read Script V.2.0. Continue onto your first day’s training.” I turned my back from him, pondering whether to continue through to my first VR mission. In some part of my mind, I was hoping my instructor would turn on me and just kill me. But I knew I was stronger than that. Even so, all this came too fast, after the month of agony I suffered, waiting for my time to train. The pain I felt before things stirred up like they are now. Regaining my confidence and strength, I walked a narrow pathway, with bizarre walls on each of my sides from the corner of my eye I saw my na--my NEW name, scrolling from the top to the bottom. Then came the VR training room.
Being used to reality, the VR room confused me at first. Nothing there but a transparent platform to rest my movement on. The room was nothing I’d ever seen. Numbers and circles, and shapes and lines, never ending….going on forever. It was a dreary prison, awaiting the start of a new appearance. And that’s exactly what it received. I shook as my instructor set the VR mission login up. I followed the directions accordingly, hoping I’d have a miniscule quake of accomplishment, even though there had been no started mission yet. Words typed themselves in front of my face, on a transparent square identical to my see-through stand. “Login - INTRINSIC (I.N.T)- JACK Mission - SNEAKING-01-659A6J2. “Six, five, nine… sir what does all this mean?” I yelled aloud hoping I’d get a response form my instructor. Instead of a response I received the start of a mission. Suddenly I jumped in my skin as I looked down at my panel stand. Squares of transparency branched out form every side of my platform! To the left the squares simulated a staircase, and a couple higher walls. To my right, a ladder leading to a higher level. In front of me weathered an immensely high wall. As my eyes scaled from the top of that wall to the bottom, I noticed a small entrance. It was a simulated air vent. And behind me grew ONE platform with some sort of symbol on the floor. Observing more closely I recognized the symbol. It was FOXHOUND of course. Turning back around, another panel appeared in fornt of my face, reading MISSION 1, SNEAKING: MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE PLATFORM IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM, AND BACK WITHOUT ALERTING THE SOUND SENSORS CONTAINED IN THE WALLS AND FLOOR. BEGIN.
Realizing my objective, I stepped forward lightly, moving left towards the steps, deciding not to take the ladder or vent, holding caution with every move I make. Slowly, I moved step by step up the stairs, treading ever so quietly…as I approached the top I saw the checkpoint platform I needed to reach to start heading back from. That was it, I made it up the steps securely. Every step I took was different from one another. My heart raced every time I met contact with the floor, yet still gaining confidence with every step. I finally reached the end panel, overwhelming me with my own subtle satisfaction. No stopping me now! I simply had to keep going, keep moving, NO STOPPING. Halfway back down the steps, still moving, swiftly shifting my body weight to the opposite foot with every step. This was it! I was not 15 feet from the FOXHOUND symbol, which had now projected a goal mark, just calling my name. I slid my foot down so careful still keeping my pace. So close to the end! But, of course my victory had been ceased in a flash, from the cold, hard floor in which I had landed on, after tripping over my left foot.
“DAMNIT!” Anger quickly followed my act of failure. As I stood up I heard very faint laughter somewhere. As I looked around I finally noticed my instructor chuckling at my embarrassing mistake. “Hehehe, nice fall there, I.N.T! Oh man, that made my day.” I shot him a very dirty look. “Sorry, I’m sorry I.N.T, please forgive my rude laughter. Hehe, It’s alright man try the mission again.” “Fine, I promise you I won’t fail this time, sir.” I took my position and regained my confidence, and leaving my cocky attitude behind this time. To keep myself in check I re-read the mission briefing. BEGIN.
This time I took the ladder, thinking it might be easier. But I was sorely mistaken. To my surprise, getting up the ladder without making ANY sound was quite difficult, because the disadvantage of using a ladder is not being able to focus as well with noise and movement, as you are focused on balance and posture. I was halfway up. Slowly, I pulled my right foot up two rungs instead of one, almost slipping off the ladder! But the rest of the way was taken slowly, realizing just now I didn’t have a time limit. Third to last rung, second to last rung, LAST RUNG. I pulled myself up onto the next floor, swiftly shifting my weight as I did so, yet still keeping my feet movements slow. YES! I made it. Tiptoeing a bit quickly to the checkpoint was very easy this time around. As I heard a *click* from the completed objective of stepping on the checkpoint marker, I thought for a second.
Hmm…take the ladder back down? Or maybe the steps? For a split second I considered the downhill air vent. No. The shifting of my body would be too noisy. Suppose I took the ladder; If getting UP is hard, seeing as how I can’t focus too well, getting down is probably harder, since I have to do the opposite of going up. So the steps were my favorable option. I made my way to the top of the steps, looking down to my goal marker. The steps grew longer and longer in appearance. Almost fooled by my nervous mirage, I grew confidence back up and lost the fake sight. One step down, very slow. Second step down, even SLOWER. Pushing the front of my foot down on each step, I kept my silence. Holding my breath every time I moved, and releasing it every time I stopped. Over halfway down…almost there…Done! I made it successfully down the steps! Keeping my cautious attitude, I kept moving slowly, again shifting weight to the opposing airborne foot. Two steps away…and…I finished! That was it! I had the utmost joy in myself for making every move correct! A new panel swooped in front of me counting my errors. PROCESSING…1 TOTAL ERRORS. AWARDED RANK FOR COMPLETED MISSION = A-
Back in the VR briefing room, I confronted my instructor proudly. “So, impressed?” “From your first day, just a little. Still, good job, I.N.T.” “Hey, just wondering, sir, what was my one error?” “Isn’t it obvious? You attempted the mission more twice.” Of course, I thought. I was so caught up in my victory I had forgotten my biggest mistake today! No matter, I still got an A on my first mission on my first day of VR, as Intrinsic.

You know, that is an extremely short chapter. You should fix it up first and make it longer if you want some serious reviews for this.
MGO_monkey - September 2, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
i know its short, i said its a work in progress i think, and also it was something i started months ago and never got around to keep going, so i just refound it last night and uploaded it. ill update it soon but as you know Solid Snake the great, that MGC comic is REALLY settig me back, ecspecially with school beginning. dont worry ill get more of this story done soon. i promise. Interesting. Seems you've made Raiden a bit clumsy. :P Wouldn't have guessed it from MGS2, so I am curious as to how you're going to overcome this clumsiness. Keep writing bud, and make sure you get someone to proof read for you. They'll almost certainly find something that you missed, (providing you missed something) as it's easier for a fresh pair of eyes to notice things.

Solid Snake The Great - September 3, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Nice work there MGO_Monkey. It seems Raiden isn't as clumsy as I thought :P
Update soon. But, instead of editing your first post, just post the new chapter in a reply. ;)
MGO_monkey - September 3, 2007 09:01 PM (GMT)
Thanks again bro :thumb:
post in a new reply? you mean as in the whole story in a new reply? or just whatever is new in a new reply? either way dude, will do. lol :D
Solid Snake The Great - September 3, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
Not the whole story, just the new chapters. XD
MGO_monkey - September 3, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
Gotcha. OK i think tonight and tomorrow im strictly gonna be working on the MGC MGC sprite poses, so wednesday ill continue the story ;)
IM hoping to have the MGC poses for MGS1 done be tomorrow night, if not ill wokr some more on them later this week.
Solid Snake The Great - September 3, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
Okay. After reading over the first chapter once again, I noticed something. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to get your codename after you complete the training?
MGO_monkey - September 3, 2007 09:15 PM (GMT)
hmm...i suppose you're right. Ok i got an idea, I'll give jack a DIFFERENT codename that resembles what he goes by as a beginner, and THEN when hes done with training hell get the codename "Snake." sound cool? Thanks for pointing that out bro
Edited his name. Its "Intrinsic" Now. I.N.T for short (Int.) dont ask me how i came up with it lol
BigK - September 4, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
No, don't keep editing to update chapters man, it's a very bad idea. People read chapters more when they're current to the topic, and replies can only have a limited amount of words so you may get cut off. Just a fair warning. ;)
MGO_monkey - September 4, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
Uhm, what? I didnt really understand that BigK, does that mean you want me to do wat SSTG said and just reply with chapters? or just keep updating the first post??? :ph43r:
Solid Snake The Great - September 4, 2007 05:45 PM (GMT)
He means to reply with Chapters. Basically, put all new chapters into new posts ;)
MGO_monkey - September 4, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
alright. but doesnt that make it confusing for people who havent looked at this thread yet? lol nevermind ill do the new chapter new post thing. thanks guys :thumb:
Solid Snake The Great - September 4, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Nah. People will read your first post, and then scroll down for more instinctively. That's the way with every topic isn't it?
BigK - September 4, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
No, if they haven't looked at the thread, they will go back to the beginning and start reading from there. If you keep updating the first post, eventually you run out of space per post. So updating your story through new replies instead makes sure you never run out of space. :thumb:
MGO_monkey - September 4, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
ohhhk i got it now. thanks agian guys. but i wont be updating the story till maybe wednesday or thursday, on accounta some school work, a tets to stufy for, and alll those MGC sprite poses. man im so beat lol. gues i just gotta find time for each
