Here’s the deal – we, the staff, are looking for people to create new Metal Gear Solid avatars for the Base Gallery. As most of you should know, we currently only have those few simplistic MGS1 avatars – which quite frankly look like crap. So, we are giving you all the opportunity to add some new avatars of your own to the Base Gallery so new members unfamiliar with forums can use them.

Now, to gain a little attention; we will be treating this like a competition – as such, we are offering a reward for the person who makes the best/most avatars. The reward in question will be -1 from your warnings – giving you some 'good karma', as they say. Even if you do not have any warnings, you will still get -1.

In regards to the avatar style etc. – you can create anything you wish. They don’t have to be extravagant pieces if art – they can just be simple if you like. Just be aware that the avatars will be judged on quality and quantity. So do think how you will be making them.

Anyway, post the avatars you wish to submit here – and feel free to edit you post if you make more. The competition will end on the 30^th of September – so get your entries in! Just note that even after we announce the winner – you’ll still be able to submit your images here if you would like them to be usable in the Base Gallery.

Please note:

• Avatars must be 100x100 dimensions.
• All avatars made will be placed in the Base Gallery – so don’t submit them if you’re just trying to get the prize and wish to retract your entry if you don’t succeed.
• You must be okay with anybody being able to wear them.
• You can also give the avatars you submit a distinct theme or style.

Ah, I think I'll give this one a shot. We really need some good MGS base avatars on this place.

Just one question, is it okay to make them in .png file?

I don't see why not. If we do go with .PNG images, we just have host them at a place like Photobucket, as InvisionFree cannot upload PNGs properly.

Ooo this'll keep me busy for a while ^_^ When you say quantity are you asking for say 30+? :P I just don't want to make too many.

Wow JCC. Those are amazing. I've only got one little niggle. The Gray Fox avatar is a tad dark. Maybe lighten it up a bit?

@g-fox: You can't have an avatar in a base gallery that doesn't have scanlines. Scanlines on avatars are a time honoured tradition.

Pretty cool, if I could make one suggestion, you should do more MGS3 people, like the Cobra Unit, other then that these are awesome. :)

I'm not doing it for the sake of -1 as I know some people need it, just wondering if these avatars have to do with MGS universe alone, or can iconic movie and anime characters be added?

Yeah but I mean having a wider variety of choices is always greater, some people just rather use a Rambo avatar than a naked snake one. I guess that's ok though I might try a few.

Hmm. I was thinking about that actually, and I think in terms of movies, we can have a few avatars from movies that have been an inspiration for Metal Gear Solid (i.e. Escape From New York, 2001: A Space Odyssey etc.) and those few iconic movies, as you said. Although, the Anime if you wanted, can be pretty much anything.

Just know that for the most part, this should be for Metal Gear Solid as we are an MGS discussion board – creating them gives you a better chance at the prize... creating both, on the other hand, would probably be even better. Hmm. We shall see...

okay i won't be able to get in anymore mgs avas until this weekend when i have some time to do it because i've been busy trying to get abuncha things for my gfx class at high school,but i can almost garuntee that i will have at least some mgs3 avas in by saturday ^_^

And I'll do some if anybody requests any that are really needed, but I think I've got the main set there.

Okay, it’s finally October 1^st – the competition is now closed.

We – the staff – will be voting on it in the Staff Forum. It may take a couple of days, so just hold tight. I must say, you guys have made this rather hard to judge – the other staff are going to be stumped on who to pick.

Also, a big thank you to everybody who participated in making these avatars – we will get them in the Base Gallery right away. You guys are awesome.

I am very happy to announce that the winner of this competition is Mr. OcelotSnake! Congratulations, man – you made some damn good Avatars, and the staff think you deserve the reward. Although, I have to ask you – would you like to keep the prize for yourself, or do you wish to hand it off to somebody else? It’s entirely up to you (Don't feel pressured by anybody, either – I'm looking in your direction, JCC). You can post your decision here, or PM myself – and I’ll take care of it right away.

To everybody else – thank you for participating in this contest. You have helped us improve our image by creating some fine Avatars for many new members to use and enjoy – I’m sure they’ll be a lot happier with those as opposed to the shite one from before (haha). But yeah – all Avatars will be placed in the Base Gallery for usage soon. However, at the moment, only those from OcelotSnake will be placed in there – the reason being that is; we aren’t too sure how well the script will perform with over 50 images, if it goes well; we’ll add the others.

Wow, you guys made some really cool avatars. It's going to be quite a good base gallery for everyone.

Note that the gallery is only viewable in IE. If I have time, I'll try and refactor it to be cross-browser compatible. It's not my code, though, so no promises.

Confound these damn inter-browser troubles! I have Internet Explorer, and so everyone is like "Wah wah Rich get Firefox it's better!" so I get Firefox and then EVERY DAMN SITE IS CONFIGURED FOR IE USE, but now all of my cookies are set and stuff so I can't be bothered to revert back.

Life sucks. I'd end it right now, but I don't have the courage, so more suck ensues. :(

I can view it and I use AOL. In fact, I'm using one of OS' avatars right now.
