Title: CastleVania: Twilight of Decay
Description: A fan-game script

ThunderBoss - September 20, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
As my previous topic said, I've spent the past few weeks working on a script for a CastleVania game. Don't worry though, I haven't given up of Metal Gear Thunder. I've just taken a break from it.

Just to let you know, I'll be absent next week, in isolation in a state cabin where I finish an original short story. When i return, I'll start work on Metal Gear Thunder again.

But once again about this script here. The CastleVania series has placed less importance on strategy action cut scenes than MGS, so this script will be simper than MGT.
It will have only the briefest description of gameplay action, and the cutscenes will be mostly dialog. The script will also make great use of what I like to call pseudo plot twists, that being things the players -or in this case readers- will know almost immediately, but the characters will not.
This script is actually a revamp and revision of a script I wrote years ago called CastleVania: Dusk of Ruin.

Right now I must warn you about the ending -no this won't be a spoiler-. In the original script, people generally loved the bad and the mediocre endings, but allot of people didn't like the good ending.
Well I tell you now that the good ending -once you see it- is intended to be nothing more than a setup for a sequel.

Also, if you're a fan of the CastleVania series, there are many things you'll instantly recognize that you wouldn't if you weren't, especially when it comes to characters.

Now onto the script!!!

CastleVania
Twilight of Decay

A Fan Game Script

One hundred years after the events of CastleVania: Dawn of Sorrow
The world is bleak place. Slums dominate the citiyscapes.
Crime lords compete for control of international politics.
What few community efforts there have been to combat this have been largely ineffective.
Compassion is rare, and justice is rarer.

Dissolve from black into a scene in the courtyard of a very macabre castle.
A pathway of charred and chipped stone stands in front of black, grassless ground decorated only by the leafless charred skeletons of trees and bushes. Behind that, a wrought iron fence almost a story high stands between the courtyard and a view of a desolate landscape. In the background, there is nothing but grassless dark hills dotted occasionally with the same skeletal trees and bushes. A single huge lake within the hills is the color of blood, and the moon that takes up a great portion of the sky is a bright orange. A seeming impossibility, the moon is in front of the dark purple clouds that envelop the entire sky. Giant bats circle the sky in the hundreds, possibly thousands.
Characters lay unconscious at the stone walkway.
One is a Caucasian man with fiery red hair in his late teens or possibly early twenties. He wears a bright green beret and red scarf that flows behind him half the length of his body, and nearly a third meter in width. On top of a plain black button up shirt he wears a suede jacket, along with blue jeans and casual suede boots.
Another character is a middle aged Caucasian man with long, slightly graying black hair. He sports a thick goatee and a distinct widows peak. He appears just slightly overweight, but also very tall and very solid of build. He wears a navy blue dress suit that appears to be well crafted and probably awfully expensive. The glint of gold and platinum can be seen in his watch and earrings.
Another character is a Negro woman with her hair tied in cornrows. She is dressed in digital camouflage fatigues in urban colors of black, brown and gray. She carries n a pistol, a knife, and a khukri -similar to a machete but curved inward-. She is obviously a soldier.
Another character is an early middle aged Caucasian woman with shoulder length brown hair. She is dressed in plain jeans and a short sleeve tan button up shirt. Unlike any of the others, she appears to be quite ordinary.
Two more characters are both children, both appearing to be tan skinned, dark haired, and Mediterranean in origin. One is a thirteen year old girl in khaki shorts, a gray t-shirt and a red mini-jacket. The other is a thirteen year old boy in blue jeans, a brown t-shirt and a jean jacket. A chain link whip with a small iron ball is tied to the girl’s shorts.
The final character hides in the shadows and cannot yet be seen.
All at the same time, they begin to awaken. They sit up or stand up, many holding or shaking their heads.

THRITEEN YEAR OLD BOY
What? Where am I?

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
What is this place?
It’s so cold! Why is it so cold?

MAN IN NAVY SUIT
Who are you!? Where have you taken me!? I demand to see a representative!

RED HAIRED BOY
What the hell are you talking about? I don’t know any more about this than you do!

The soldier woman, kneeling over and breathing heavily, stands up. On seeing the Red Haired Boy, Man in Suit, and Ordinary Woman all standing together, she immediately pulls out her pistol and aims it at them.

SOLDIER WOMAN
Who the hell are you people!? Where’s my squad!? What have you done to them!? Spill it or I’ll shoot your ass down!

ORDINARY WOMAN
No! Please don’t shoot!

MAN IN SUIT
Whoa! Whoa! Don’t point that at us!

RED HAIRED BOY
We’re not your enemies lady! I think it’s safe to say we’re all just as in the dark as you are.

The soldier woman pauses for a second, clicks the catch of her gun, and a moment later holsters it.

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
It’s so cold.

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD BOY
The moon’s in front of the clouds.
That’s not possible!

Everyone faces the background.

RED HAIRED BOY
What a horrid place.

SOLDIER WOMAN
Is this hell?

VOICE
No, but you might not be far off.

The characters turn to see a seventh and final character standing a short distance away. He is tall and thin. His skin is pasty white while his shoulder length hair is cream colored. He is dressed in a pure black dress suit with a black shirt and no tie. A black fedora covers his head. His face is as a flawless as a porcelain mask and his skin is as smooth and youthful as an infant’s. But his face adorns an expression of fatigue normally reserved tired old men at their wit’s end.
The Soldier woman immediately points her pistol at him. He does not flinch or appear in the slightest bit startled by the gesture.

ORDINARY WOMAN
Stop it! I’m sure whoever he is he’s in the same situation as us!

STRANGE MAN
She is correct in that assessment. I found myself here with no explanation and no memory of how I came to this place, just as all of you did.

SOLDIER WOMAN
Who are you?

STRANGE MAN / ALEX CARRDE
My name is Aluc… I am Alex… Alex Carrde. I am a private investigator from Hungary.

SOLDIER WOMAN
You sure as hell don’t sound Hungarian.

ALEX CARRDE
I am articulate.
I have introduced myself. Would you mind returning the favor?

The Soldier Woman holsters her pistol.

SOLDIER WOMAN / HARPER DYNASTY
Harper Dynasty, Master Sergeant Colonial Marine Corps, F8-B26- 4A6.

ALEX CARRDE
Dynasty… I see.

RED HAIRED BOY
US colonial marines? I’ve wanted to ask this for a long time. Just why the hell is Seattle under martial law.

HARPER DYNASTY
It’s either us or the syndicates honkey, now you better watch your damn mouth!

ALEX CARRDE
Enough! What about you?

RED HAIRED BOY / SPENCER BELNADES
Me? Uhhh… Spencer Belnades. I guess I’m a nomad, ever since my hometown was sacked by you know who.

HARPHER DYNASTY
You keep that up boy, you see what you get.

ALEX CARRDE
First Dynasty, and then Belnades.
What about you?

ORDINARY WOMAN / TERESA BARTLEY
My name is Teresa Bartley. I’m a… I’m from London.

MAN IN SUIT / RALSTON CRUZ
Ralston Cruz. I head a prosecution firm in New York. My boys have never lost a single conviction.

SPENCER BELNADES
I wasn’t aware there was a prosecution firm out there that got convictions at all.

RALSTON CRUZ
You’re a brassy little prick.
Ha! Ha! Ha! I like you!

ALEX CARRDE
Now there is Bartley and Cruz, it only becomes more dire.

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL
It’s too cold.

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD BOY
Isn’t anyone going to listen to us?

TERESA BARTLEY
I’m sorry!

Teresa runs over to the Thirteen year old girl and puts her hands on her shoulders trying in vain to warm her.

ALEX CARRDE
And what are your names?

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL / VIVIEN
Vivien.

THIRTEEN YEAR OLD BOY / VINCENT
Oh, uhh, Vincent.

ALEX CARRDE
What are your surnames?

VINCENT
What?

TERESA BARTLEY
Your last names dears.

VINCENT BELMONT
Belmont.

VIVIEN BELMONT
Same here. We’re twins.

ALEX CARRDE
Belmont… the keystone of them all.
And yet this is not the place.

SPENCER BELNADES
I’m sorry, is there something about our names you recognize?

ALEX CARRDE
That is none of your concern.

SPENCER BELNADES
Like hell it’s not.

RALSTON CRUZ
You know, I think the kids actually have a point.
It’s got to be ten below zero out here. There’s a castle just up ahead. We need to get inside.

ALEX CARRDE
I would not recommend that.
It might not be entirely safe.

SPENCER BELNADES
Care to enlighten us or is that none of our concern?

ALEX CARRDE

SPENCER BELNADES
Right.

VINCENT BELMONT
I’m not going in there.

HARPER DYNASTY
I’d rather take the risk that the castle might be dangerous than the guarantee that we all gonna’ freeze our asses off out here. I’m going inside. I don’t care what any of you say.

ALEX CARRDE
There is a certain logic to that statement.
Very well. Bartley, you will take the Belmont twins into the castle, but you will not leave the entrance hall.
I have things to discuss with the rest of these people.

TERESA BARTLEY
You don’t have to be a twat about it.
Come on, let’s go.

Exit Teresa, Vincent, and Vivien.

ALEX CARRDE
As you were inquiring previously, I am familiar with the surnames of all of you.
But you need not concern yourselves with any but one of them. The woman Bartley, that is a name I fear.
Do not trust that woman.

HARPER DYNASTY
I don’t take orders from no one who don’t outrank me.

ALEX CARRDE
Heed my advice or not, but you must endure the consequences for whatever choice you make.

RALSTON CRUZ
Wait! If you’re so afraid of this Bartley woman, why’d you leave her in charge of the kids?

ALEX CARRDE
They are Belmonts.
They can fend for themselves.

SPENCER BELNADES
Kids?

ALEX CARRDE
That is correct.
I will wait for you inside.

Exit Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
What a dick!

RALSTON CRUZ
Yeah really.
Who the hell does he think he is anyway?

HARPER DYNASTY
Right now I don’t care. I just want to get inside out of this damn cold.

RALSTON CRUZ
No argument there.

Exit Spencer, Harper and Ralston.
Fade to black.
Dissolve to scene inside a massive, church like foyer. The arranged stone walls are dotted by dirty and broken stained glass windows. Ever more massive red tapestries flow from the ceilings sporting macabre coats of arms. The tapestries are tattered, torn, and dirty, many barely hanging onto their supports. Black marble columns are arranged along the sides of the foyer, most of them broken and/or toppled. Pieces of antique Victorian style furniture lay broken and toppled across the sides of the room. The red carpeted floors are covered with dust. Most other structures are laced with cobwebs.
A small fire burns from a pile of rubble in the center of the room. Vincent, Vivien, Teresa, and Harper sit around the fire. Alex stands a small distance away with his arms folded and his fedora pulled down to shade his face.

SPENCER BELNADES
Fire!

RALSTON CRUZ
Warmth!

Spencer and Ralston approach the fire and stand close to it.

VINCENT BELMONT
It was actually colder inside.

TERESA BARTLEY
I built a fire from the broken chairs. It’s not much, but it’s better than what we had.

SPENCER BELNADES
It doesn’t look like anyone’s been in here for a hundred years.

RALSTON CRUZ
I think it has a kind of charm.

I don’t know. It’s just that, I almost feel like I recognize this castle.

VINCENT BELMONT
Me too.

VIVIEN BELMONT
It’s almost like I’ve been here before… but I know I never did.

ALEX CARRDE
Your familiarity with this castle is only derivative. Whatever your feelings this is not the place you are familiar with. It may be similar, but it is something else entirely.

HARPER DYNASTY
And what the hell is that supposed to mean?

ALEX CARRDE

SPENCER BELNADES
Right, none of our concern.
Whatever the hell’s going on, we need food and warmer clothes. Someone’s got to go into this castle and find them.

ALEX CARRDE
I will venture into the castle. You will all remain here until I return.

RALSTON CRUZ
Who the fuck suddenly died and put you in charge!?
I say Harper goes. She’s the marine after all.

ALEX CARRDE
Fine then. Dynasty may accompany me.

HARPER DYNASTY
Fine then. I’ll accompany you.

Harper stands up.
Exit Harper and Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
I really, really hate that guy.

TERESA BARTLEY
Well he’s gone now. There’s not much to do except keep warm by the fire.

SPENCER BELNADES
I guess so.

Spencer approaches the fire and sits down in front of it.
Time lapse.
The fire has died down to glowing embers.
Spencer and Teresa continue to sit by the fire in a more hunched over position than before. Vincent and Vivian now lay down next to each other by the fire. Ralston stands a short distance away absentmindedly looking up.

SPENCER BELNADES
It’s getting cold again.

TERESA BARTLEY
There’s only so much broken furniture in this place, we need to ration it.

VIVIEN BELMONT
I hate this castle. I don’t how or why, but I know this place, and I hate it.

VINCENT BELMONT
Me too! It’s like I’ve had nightmares about this castle all my life, except I haven’t, but it feels like I have.

RALSTON CRUZ
How could you say that!? This castle is a thing of beauty, it’s a work of art… I can almost feel it speaking to me.

SPENCER BELNADES
I think the weirdness has gotten to your head Ralston.

RALSTON CRUZ
Say what you want. I know there’s a connection between us… the castle and I that is.

TERESA BARTLEY
Now that you mention it, I feel it too. I could almost swear I’ve been here before, no, that I’ve lived here before.

SPENCER BELNADES
I know there’s something familiar about this place. I just can’t place it.

RALSTON CRUZ
One thing’s for sure, Alex knows a hell of a lot more than he’s letting on.

SPENCER BELNADES
No shit Sherlock!

Hey! Hey Vivien?

VIVIEN BELMONT
What?

SPENCER BELNADES
What’s with that whip you got, with the iron ball on the end?

VIVIEN BELMONT
Oh that. I don’t know what it is.

VINCENT BELNADES
Our mother was killed by gangs when we were just five. She left it to us and told us to always keep it with us. We don’t really know why. But we’ve been on the streets of Barcelona since then.

VIVEN BELMONT
We take turns sleeping with the whip. It’s kind of funny, but we always sleep better with it next to us. I know it sounds crazy.

SPENCER BELNADES
No it doesn’t.

A minute passes in silence.

TERESA BARTLEY
How long have they been gone?

RALSTON CRUZ
I don’t know, my watch stopped ticking when we got here.

SPENCER BELNADES
Why didn’t you say that before?

RALSTON CRUZ
I didn’t think it was important.

VINCENT BELMONT
My compass is spinning too!

SPENCER BELNADES
The moon is in front of the clouds, the watches have stopped, and the compasses are spinning. What the hell is with this place?

RALSTON CRUZ
This is ridiculous! Someone’s got to go out there and find that Alex freak!

TERESA BARTLEY
And see if Harper is all right.

SPENCER BELNADES
I’ll go.

RALSTON CRUZ
You?

SPENCER BELNADES
Why not? I mean I seem to be the most able bodied person here.

RALSTON CRUZ
Fine… go get them.

Spencer stands up and walks away.
Exit Spencer.

VIVIEN BELMONT
I’m so hungry.

Sounds good, now onto the script:

Very interesting really. At the moment I really don't have an idea of what's going on really but I'm certainly intrigued and curious to find out. Your use with the characters' was well written, giving some back story to a few. Even better is how you bring a sense of nostalgia to the Belmont's was a nice touch, perhaps they have been in the castle before. How they ended up in the castle should be a nice mystery too. So far, not bad at all bud.

ONE thing, Negro Woman and Ordinary Woman. VERY bad choice of words man. Calling one woman Negro woman is fine, but following up with ORDINARY woman is kind of bad. I'd recommend changing that to caucasian woman at least, because just based on the names, it sounds like saying Negro women aren't ordinary. Just saying the name needs to be changed, that's all.

Other then that, great work, looking forward to reading the next chapter.

KradDiher - September 20, 2007 10:55 PM (GMT)
You've got some nice dialogue going on there, but I agree with BigK. Kinda odd to see Negro Woman and Ordinary woman. I know you probably meant it differently and all and no offense is taken or anything. Just a heads up ;) .

Anyway, nice going so far.

ThunderBoss - September 20, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
That's really strange.
I didn't notice that. Honestly, I had no clue that that might have sounded awkward.

Since I can't really think of anything to describe Teresa with other than 'Ordinary Woman', I've changed the title description of Harper to 'Soldier Woman'.

Here is the continuation of the script for CastleVania: Twilight of Decay.
One thing I forgot to mention was that I'll often include references to classic horror movies within the script. Some of you might have caught that already with the 'Colonial Marines' comment. There will be many more where that came from.

Onto the script.

[Spencer wanders through the castle. The style seems to be that of an Italian renaissance palace, and is all in shambles similar to the entrance.
In a long hallway, Spencer encounters an animated skeleton wielding a small dagger and wearing a tattered robe and a tin helmet. Spencer dispatches the skeleton.]

Spencer slowly backs away from the remains of the animated skeleton.
Spencer kneels and clutches his head.

SPENCER BELNADES
What the hell was that thing!
That’s impossible! Skeletons don’t walk!
Am I dead? Is this hell?
No! No… Alex said it wasn’t. Alex! He knows what that was!

Spencer stands up.

[Spencer takes the dagger dropped by the skeleton and continues. Along the way he encounters more monsters including skeletons, blood sucking bats, zombies, large spiders, and wisps of poisonous smoke that seem immune to attacks.
Spencer happens upon a nondescript marble altar surrounded by lit candles. Harper Dysnasty rests on the altar. She is bleeding from her midsection and was hastily bandaged.]

SPENCER BELNADES
Harper!!!

Spencer runs up to the alter, kicking over several candles, he puts his hands on Herper’s arm.

SPENCER BELNADES
Harper! Goddamnit! Are you all right? Say something!

HARPER DYNASTY
cough.
The sun of a bitch isn’t human.

SPENCER BELNADES
What?

HARPER DYNASTY
Alex!
Cough.
He’s not human!

SPENCER BELNADES
What happened!?

HARPER DYNASTY
Cough.
We were attacked by… things.

SPENCER BELNADES
Bats? Skeletons? Zombies?

HARPER DYNASTY
Yeah, that’s it. Like somethin' out of a cheap gothic horror game.
Cough.
There were these giant bats… two of ‘em. Damn things had to be nine feet tall, kept on spittin’ out little bats.

SPENCER BELNADES
They did this to you?

HARPER DYNASTY
They did.
Cough.
After that, Alex just backhanded one a them to the face and killed it. Tore the damn things jaw right off and sent it flying across the room. The other one ran away after that.

SPENCER BELNADES
No human is that strong.

HARPER DYNASTY
That’s what I’ve been tryin’ to tell you!
Cough.
And you know what he did right before he wrapped me up and dropped me here? He slurped up my blood, that’s what!

SPENCER BELNADES
He did what!?

HARPER BELNADES
He lapped up my blood with his own goddamn tongue!
Cough.
He thought I was asleep, but I felt everything he did.

SPENCER BELNADES
We’ll worry about that later. Right now I have to get you back to the entrance.

Spencer picks up Harper in his arms and walks away with her.

SPENCER BELNADES
This doesn’t mean I like you though.

HARPER DYNASTY
Then just why are you helpin' me?

SPENCER BELNADES
Because its my job as a Patron of Man.

HARPER DYNASTY
So that’s why you’s so pissed at me. We took over your pansy little youth centers?
Your little do gooder cult ain’t ever done shit for this world.
The syndicates would’ve taken over with, or without you people.

SPENCER BELNADES
Probably, but that still doesn’t change anything.

HARPER DYNASTY
Yeah, yeah, whatever.

Exit Spender and Harper.

Back at the entrance hall.
Teresa Bartley sits alone by the fire.
Enter Alex carrying Harper in his arms.
Teresa stands up and puts her hands to her mouth.

TERESA BARTLEY
Harper! Spencer what happened!?

SPENCER BELNADES
She could tell you better than I could.

Spencer lays Harper by the fire.

SPENCER BELNADES
But right now you just need to do something about her injuries.

TERESA BARLTEY
How would I know how to do that?

HARPER DYNSATY
I’m a certified battlefield medic.
Cough.
I'll tell you how.

Spencer stands up and looks around.

SPENCER BELNADES
Wait! Where’s Ralston and the kids?

TERESA BARTLEY
Ralston just wandered off saying he belonged here. The kids followed him. They said they just felt like they shouldn’t trust him.
I tried to go after them but I was attacked by a… … a… … a skeleton! You don’t believe me do you?

SPENCER BELNADES
We believe you.

HARPER DYNASTY
Skelletons are the least of the shit we had to fight through.
Cough.

SPENCER BELNADES
I need to find Alex. I know he knows what’s going on.

HARPER DYNASTY
You'll need come back here pretty often.
Cough.
I’ll need you to find me food, alcohol for disinfectant, and anything that can be used as bandages, and anything else you might think would be useful.
You can’t say no to that, not as a Patron a Man.

SPENCER BELNADES
No, I can’t.

TERESA BARTLEY
You’re a Patron of Man?

SPENCER BELNADES
To aid communities in need. To help those who are not hopelessly lost, and to protect them from those who are. Without prejudice, favoritism, or fear.
… That’s our oath.

TERESA BARTLEY
More like your business card.
Hopeless humanists. That’s what my father called you. Your little band of crusaders couldn’t protect him, and they couldn’t protect London. They wouldn't have been able to protect Seattle either.

SPENCER BELNADES
I don’t know. Maybe they couldn’t have. But it’s the only thing in my life that’s ever made any damn sense. And I have to hold onto it, even if we are hopeless, it’s what keeps me sane.
... Especially in a place like this.

[Spencer leaves the entrance hall and retraces his steps to the alter, fighting familiar monsters along the way. At the alter the candles have gone out and the slab is stained with Harper’s blood. Spencer finds bees wax, blood of a mystic, and a clay flask.
Spencer continues past the alter where he encounters stronger monsters such as peeping eyes and wandering armors. These new monsters will sometimes drop seemingly useless items, often pieces of their own bodies.
In an empty hallway Spencer finds the remains of a giant bat. Its jaw had been torn from its head and the floor is soaked with its blood. Spencer collects a fang of giant bat from the carcass.
The next room is a small marble and limestone chapel with wooden benches and tattered draperies. Another giant bat hangs from the wooden beams on the ceiling. As Spencer approaches the Giant Bat, it opens its eyes and swoops down.
BOSS: DARKWING BAT
The Darkwing Bat flutters around keeping Spencer at a distance. It coughs up smaller bloodsucking bats that attack Spencer. Spencer must charge up to the Darkwing Bat and attack it with his weapons before it has time to flutter away.
After a time, Spencer’s dagger breaks. His fists do no damage.]

SPENCER BELNADES
How do you stop it!?

A ball of light appears in front of Spencer.
Spencer falls over and the Darkwing Bat shrieks and backs away.

SPENCER BELNADES
Ahhh!!!

LIGHT
Belnades.

SPENCER BELNADES
It talks!?

LIGHT
Do not fear me, I am here to help.

SPENCER BELNADES
What? How?

LIGHT
The bees wax, the blood of the mystic, and the fang of the giant bat.
Put them all in the flask you carry with you.

SPENCER BELNADES
Why!?

The Darkwing Batt shrieks

LIGHT
I can’t repel this demon forever!
Do as I say!

SPENCER BELNADES
Okay.

Enter status screen.
There is a new command called mix.
The ball of light appears on that status screen.

LIGHT
I will teach you to unlock your hidden powers.
Do you see your new command, mix? Highlight the command and press the action button.

[The player does so]

LIGHT
To your left we see a list of items, to your right, the flask you found at the altar.
Select the items you want from the right using the action button, and drag them to the flask to put them inside.
If you do not like your selection, click the flask again to empty it. When you are satisfied with your collection, click the command mix beneath the flask.
You try it. Mix the bees wax, the blood of the mystic, and the fang of the giant bat.

[The player does so.]

Red smoke pours from the flask as the sound of boiling is heard.

SPENCER BELNADES
It all turned into liquid.

LIGHT
Of course, now drink it.

SPENCER BELNADES
What?

LIGHT
Drink the mixture.

Return to gameplay view.
Spencer drinks from the flask.
Spencer kneels over.

SPENCER BELNADES
Oh god, I feel so… What’s happening to me? My fingers, they!

Spencer stands up and extends his arm forward.
A flashing spark of energy shoots from Spencer’s hand and strikes the Darkwing Bat. The Giant Bat shrieks and backs away.

SPENCER BELNADES
What… what did I just do?

LIGHT
You have begun to unlock your powers.
To do it again, you need only press the action button while holding up.
Good luck Belnades.

The ball of light flickers and fades away.

[Spencer’s new attack is called spark shot. It travels straight forward and fizzles out after a quarter screen’s distance.
Spencer uses his new attack to defeat the Darkwing Bat. The Darkwing Bat collapses dead in a pool of blood.]

SPENCER BELNADES
What was that thing? How did it know? Alex, just what the hell are you keeping from us?

[Spencer continues forward.
From the Grand Halls he ventures into the Cathedral area. The Cathedral Area is the style of an overly elaborate German gothic architecture with huge hallways, and frequent chapels and performance halls. The walls, floor, and columns are ornately carved black marble with gold trim while the ceilings are similarly carved stone.
The monsters in the area reflect this. There are several varieties of armors, peeping eyes, animated gargoyle statues, ghost dancers, and fast sword wielding skeletons in ornate decorative armors and cloaks.
Spencer ventures further. Eventually, Spencer enters a long hallway with stained glass windows depicting war scenes, partially obscured by gothic columns.]

Alex stands at the far end of the screen with his arms folded.
Spencer approaches.

SPENCER BELNADES
Alex!

Alex turns around and puts his hands in his pockets.

ALEX CARRDE
I instructed you to stay at the entrance Belnades.

SPENCER BELNADES
To hell with your instructions! I have questions and I’ll be damned if I’m not going to get straight answers!!!

ALEX CARRDE

SPENCER BELNADES
This place is doing things to me.
I killed that other giant bat, did it by shooting sparks out of my hands… after this damn glowy thing appeared in front of me and taught me how.

ALEX CARRDE
Intriguing. It appears you have discovered the power of Belnades.

SPENCER BELNADES
The what?

ALEX CARRDE
As you have no doubt deduced, I am indeed familiar with the surnames of all who awakened at the castle entrance. Each of these names is connected to a mystic power.
Dynasty for instance, possesses the power of superhuman physical prowess, strength, speed, and reflexes. Unfortunately those powers were still dormant when we were attacked.
You Belnades, possess the far more eloquent ability of magery.

SPENCER BELNADES
Meaning?

ALEX CARRDE
Meaning, you can cast spells.

SPENCER BELNADES
What kinds of spells?

ALEX CARRDE
Many spells. Some control the elements, some alter the form of your body, and some summon spirits to aid you. Those are the three main categories I know of.
As for the… ‘glowy thing’ you mentioned, I have encountered no such entity nor am I familiar with what you speak of.
But whatever the case, if you wish to survive much longer, you must learn more than the meager spell you have described.

SPENCER BELNADES
How do I do that?

ALEX CARRDE
You carry a flask with you.

SPENCER BELNADES
Yeah, I was kind of wondering about that.

ALEX CARRDE
It is an Alchemist’s flask, used for brewing potions.
Magic is drawn from forces in nature and beyond. Many of these forces are confined in physical manifestations. Certainly you’ve noticed that the demons you defeat sometimes leave behind pieces of themselves? These are not useless artifacts, but ingredients in potions that will infuse you with the power of their spells.
Each potion has a recipe, and you will need them to learn more spells.

SPENCER BELNADES
Well, how do I get these recipes?

ALEC CARRDE
You must find them.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I must continue my investigations.

Alex turns to walk away.

SPENCER BELNADES
Hey! I’m not finished with you!

Alex stops and lowers his head.
Alex turns back toward Spencer.

ALEX CARRDE
Sigh.
What?

SPENCER BELNADES
Ralston left the entrance babbling I don’t know what. The kids followed him.

ALEX CARRDE
I know. I encountered the Belmont twins in this very hall.
You needn’t worry about them.

SPENCER BELNADES
‘Needn’t worry’? They’re kids!

ALEX CARRDE
They are Belmonts, they can easily fend for themselves.

SPENCER BELNADES
Bull shit! And even if they can that still leaves Ralston. I don’t trust him

ALEX CARRDE
I will tend to Cruz.
You need be far more concerned about Barltey.
Now, if you will excuse me?

Alex turns to walk away.

SPENCER BELNADES
Hey! I still got more!

Alex stops and places his hands on his hips.
Alex turns back toward Spencer.

ALEX CARRDE
Sigh.
What!?

SPENCER BELNADES
Just what in the hell is this place? And just what in the hell are you!?

ALEX CARRDE
I do not know what this castle is. It bears great resemblance to a place I fear instinctively, but I sense it is not that place. It is confusing… and frustrating.
As for your other inquiry, you will have to elaborate.

SPENCER BELNADES
Harper told me you drank her blood.

ALEX CARRDE
She was… awake? It seems the attack of the demon bat awoke her power.

SPENCER BELNADES
Are you even human?

ALEX CARRDE
Partly.

Alex turns to walk away.
Exit Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
Partly? Just what the hell that supposed to mean?

BigK - September 23, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
Haha, excellent again. I loved how we can already get a deal of who's probably gonna be the main bad guy here, Alex. As in Castlevania, I have only played the very first one on NES around the early 90's, I forget, but so far, it's looking neat. I think it's easy to assume Alex is a Vampire, explaining his super powers and lust for blood.

Now unlocking powers for Spencer? That leaves me with questions? This light said unlocking HIS powers, I think there's something else going on with Spencer too, something I think he doesn't even know yet, but I can only wait and find out.

One thing, just a spelling error, you said with harper, "That SUN of a bitch *etc.*" Son of a bitch for grammatical purposes, other then that, nice job. Looking forward to the next update.

ThunderBoss - September 24, 2007 05:18 AM (GMT)
Ahh... well, I've played most of the CastleVania games, that is, 1, 3, 4 Dracula X, and Aria of Sorrow, and I've read the scripts of Symphony of the Night, Dawn of Sorrow, and Lament of Innocence.

Thing is, in order to truly understand what's going on, you'll have to have played at least Aria of Sorrow, and Symphony of the Night wouldn't hurt either.
If you've played those two, than you would immediately recognize who each and every one of the characters I introduced were.

I'm saying this not for better understanding of the story, but just because they're so damn good.
You need to play Symphony of the Night, and both Sorrow titles. They are truly extraordinary games. They are not level based platformers like the originals were, they're instead... what I can only call 'Platformer RPGs', with Metroid style exploration themes. You're going to have to play them in order to understand what I'm saying.
Just beware though, Symphony of the Night has horrible dialog, but at the very least is horrible in a laugh your ass off sort of way.

Anywho, check 'em out. You won't be disappointed.

Anywho, Onto the script!

[From this point forward Spencer can find scrolls hidden throughout the castle containing recipes for potions that will teach him new spells. Some are found out in the open, some are hidden, enemies and bosses drop some, and some can be bought.
Spencer wanders further through the Cathedral area. The monsters become stronger, and include several varieties of ghosts, bleach white wolves, and plants that attack Spencer.
Spencer enters a hallway with mirrored floors and potted and hanging plants in the background.]

Spencer stops and looks forward.

SPENCER BELNADES
What the!?

Spencer walks toward the end of the hall.
Vinvent and Vivien are at the end of the hall. Vincent is bleeding on the floor. His head is being held up on Vivien’s lap, who also bleeds.
Spencer walks over to Vincent and Vivian and kneels down next to them.

SPENCER BELNADES
Oh my god! What happened!?

VIVIAN BELMONT
We thought… we thought we could take them.
Alex told us we could take them. He said our whip could beat anything here.

VINCENT BELMONT
And for a while we could. But we… this thing attacked us.
It was too much.

SPENCER BELNADES
What kind of thing!?

VINVENT BELMONT
This huge… half human… bird skeleton with a big spear.

VIVEN BELMONT
We tried to fight it… but it was too strong.

SPENCER BELNADES
Alex you putz.
Where is this thing?

VINCENT BELMONT
Right in the next room.

SPENCER BELNADES
You two stay here.
I’ll go in there and try to beat it.

VIVIEN BELMONT
You?

VINCENT BELMONT
How could you beat it?

SPENCER BELNADES
You’re not the only ones with strange powers.

Spencer stands up.

[Spencer enters the next room. It is a large gothic garden within a greenhouse with mostly shattered glass walls. Gargoyle statues on pillars, some broken, dot the garden in a regular pattern. A broken and dirtied fountain in the background no longer sprays water. Vines have climbed all over the walls and pillars, engulfing them.
In the center is the only intact statue on a pedestal. The statue is of a nine foot tall gargoyle skeleton with a eagle’s beak, holding onto a twelve foot halberd.
As Spencer approaches the center of the garden, the statue comes alive and jumps from the pedestal into the foreground.
BOSS: SLOGRA
Sloga initially flies up into the air and flutters briefly in one spot to randomly execute one of three actions. Slogra can breath a stream of fire at Spencer, which can be avoided with a careful jump just at the time the stream appears. Slogra can swoop at spencer and slash with his spear, which must be avoided by diving away from Slogra and then ducking just as he begins his slash. Slogra can also simply flutter in place before moving on. At the end of each action, Slogra will fly to another part of the room.
After taking so much damage, Slogra’s wings will break off and Slogra will fall to the ground. Slogra’s attack pattern will then change. Slogra will act very aggressive, chasing after Spencer wherever he flees and trying to attack him with spear combos.
When Slogra is finally defeated, his body and spear crumbles. A small green ghost then emerges from the ashes and flees the scene.]

The sound of a door opening.
Vivien walks into the room holding Vincent up on her shoulder.

VINCENT BELMONT
You beat it?

SPENCER BELNADES
I’m not sure. But I know its gone… from this place anyway.

VIVIEN BELMONt
But Alex said we could beat anything-

SPENCER BELNADES (Interrupting)
Alex doesn’t exactly seem like a guy who know’s what the hell he’s talking about if you ask me.
Sigh.
So what was it about Ralston that scared you so badly you had to follow him into the castle?

VIVIEN BELMONT
I don’t know, it’s just that.

VINCENT BELMONT
He started making crazy talk! He said the castle was his home and then he just took off.

VIVIEN BELMONT
He scares us… we don’t know what he’s going to do, but we have to stop him!!!

VINCENT BELMONT
We have to destroy this castle! If we don’t… something really bad’s going to happen!

SPENCER BELNADES
I understand. I felt the same thing since I came here.

But you can’t do anything when you’re hurt like this.
I’ll take you back to the castle entrance.

Fade to black.
At the castle entrance, Harper lays besides the embers of the dead fire.
Enter Spencer carrying Vincent in his arms. Vivien follows.
Spencer stops. Teresa is nowhere to be seen.

SPENCER BELNADES
Teresa? Where the hell is she!? Son-of-a-bitch!

Spencer walks over to the fire and places Vincent down next to it.
Vivian walks up to the fire and kneels down next to Harper.

VIVIEN BELMONT
Harper? Where’s Teresa?

HARPER DYNASTY
She went off looking for you three.

SPENCER BELNADES
Alex, Ralston, and now Teresa. This castle is doing something to us… something bad.
Vivien, you have to stay here and rebuild the fire, and you have to treat Harper and your brother’s injuries. Harper will tell you how to do that.
I have to go find them before this whole situation explodes.

VIVIEN BELMONT
Don’t worry about Alex or Teresa. Just stop Ralston!

SPENCER BELNADES
I’ll try.

[Spencer exits the entrance hall into the next room. As soon as he does….]

VOICE
You should trust the intuition of the Belmonts.
Their instincts perceive more about this situation than anyone else’s.

SPENCER BELNADES
Huh?

A glowing sphere of light descends from above and hovers just above the ground.

SPENCER BELNADES
You!

The Light expands into the shape of a robed figure and dims.
In the light's place is a ghostly transparent figure. It is an older teenage boy with cream colored skin and flowing white hair. He wears a flowing white trenchcoat over a black shirt and blue jeans split down the sides, held together with a series of metal buckles.

SPENCER BELNADES
Who… what are you?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, and it’s not important anyway.

SPENCER BELNADES
Did you bring us here?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
No, CastleVania called you here, just as it called me.

SPENCER BELNADES
CastleVania? Is that what this place is called?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Yes. We are all in a parallel dimension constructed as a prison for the castle's power.
Historically, this was the residence of the dark noble, Vlad Dracula.

SPENCER BELNADES
Dracula? You mean… from the books?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
The books bare little resemblance to history.

SPENCER BELNADES
Considering what I’ve seen so far, it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination.
So is Dracula here? Now?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
No. Dracula is dead, forever. He died over a century ago from the events that created this dimension.
But I don’t know why CastleVania still stands. It’s supposed to die with its master, but it didn’t.

SPENCER BELNADES
And the castle itself brought us all here?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Again I don’t know why.
But I do know this. The Belmonts were right about Ralston. His intentions are only good, but he’s full of blind ambition. He can’t see what effect his actions will have until it’s too late.
If he’s allowed to have his way, than I fear for your world.

SPENCER BELNADES
And what about Alex?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
I know him. As resentful as he is, he’s a good man. But he’s too old and too set in his ways to see what’s right in front of him.
I can’t do anything but act as a guide in my formless state. And the others are in no condition to fight. It may very well be up to you to stop Ralston.

SPENCER BELNADES
How do I convince him to stop?

WHITE HAIED BOY
You might not be able to. You might end up having to kill him.

SPENCER BELNADES
I can’t do that, not as a Patron of Man.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
There might not be any other choice.
One more thing.

SPENCER BELNADES
What?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
You need to look after Teresa.
I know of the name Bartley, and I’m afraid she might be used as a tool for Ralston’s ambitions.

SPENCER BELNADES
I’ll remember that.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Good luck Spencer.

The White Haired Boy turns back into a sphere of light and flies away.

[Spencer should now have recipes that give him spells that allow him to access new areas of the castle. Spencer once again traverses the Grand Halls area, but takes a different route. This route leads toward upper floors where ruined hallways give views of the towers and spires of the castle in the background.
Spencer spencer enters a large art gallery displaying statues and paintings and vases on pedastles. Some of the statues are cracked and chipped, vases boken, and paintings torn. Torn tapestries adorn the walls of the front and back of the room.
In its center in the background is a statue of a nine foot tall humanoid reptilian creature with a short stubby tail, a dragon like head, and arms flowing into bat like wings. As Spencer approaches the center of the room, the statue comes to life.
BOSS: GAIBON
GAIBON will initially leap straight up into the air and cling to the ceiling. Gaibon crawls quickly along the ceiling and walls, often leaping from one wall all the way across the room to the other, while occasionally stopping to perform several actions. Gaibon cn extend his tong and swing it around like a whip. Only standing far enough away will avoid this. Gaibon can spew fireballs from his mouth that bounce along the floor for several seconds before fizzling out. Gaibon can also tear chunks from the ceiling with his claws and throw them at Spencer.
When Solgra takes enough damage, he will turn red and drop from the ceiling where he will aggressively attempt to swipe and Spencer with his claws while jumping and flipping backward to avoid Spencer’s attacks.
Upon being defeated, Gaibon will turn back into a statue and then crumble. A small red ghost emerges from the ashes and flees.
Spencer walks though the next few empty rooms into the Library area.
The Library area is in the style of a Victorian French palace with many large windows, chandeliers and candles, few columns, copious amounts of ornate furniture, and a color scheme of greens, reds, and caramels. The floors are many shades of marble and most walls are covered with bookcases.
The enemies in the Library area tend to focus on humanoids and possessed objects, frequently appearing are possessed books, chairs, tables, statues, and armors.
Spencer enters a large study with a fireplace, chairs and a table.]

Ralston stands at the end of the study reading a book.

SPENCER BELNADES
…Ralston.

Spencer approaches Ralston
Ralston looks to his side to see Spencer. He drops his book to the ground and turns to meet Spencer with his hands in his pockets.

RALSTON CRUZ
Spencer! Its great to see you’ve made it this far! I thought for sure the castle did you in by now.
Don’t worry, it won’t be so hostile in here for much longer.

SPENCER BELNADES
…Really.

RALSTON CRUZ
I ran into Alex here in the library.
He awakened an amazing power in me.

SPENCER BELNADES
He did what!?

RALSTON CRUZ
What’s wrong?

SPENCER BELNADES
Nothing… what’s your power?

RALSTON CRUZ
It’s called the Power of Dominace. It’s amazing.
I can drink the souls of demons, and use their powers for myself.

SPENCER BELNADES
That sounds morbid. I don't think you should be doing that.

RALSTON CRUZ
Well I think I’d put those powers to far better use than any of the things in here ever could. That is, until I find what I’m looking for.

SPENCER BELNADES
And what’s that?

RALSTON CRUZ
I don’t really know. But the more souls I ingest, the more I understand what this castle is and where it came from.
It is called… CastleVania… I think it was built as a throne for someone, I can’t put my finger on-

SPENCER BELNADES (Interrupting)
Dracula.

RALSTON CRUZ
Dracula? Yes, that makes sense now.
But I know the castle itself isn’t evil.

SPENCER BELNADES
Than why is everything in here attacking us?

RALSTON CRUZ
The castle is confused and frightened, like a child separated from it parents.
It’s in pain… I think it’s dying. That’s why it’s so cold, why everything's in shambles.
I have to help it.

SPENCER BELNADES
Are you sure that’s such a good idea?

RALSTON CRUZ
You sound like a Patron of Man. Skittish little rabbits the lot of ‘em.

SPENCER BELNADES
I am a Patron of Man.

RALSTON CRUZ
You are a Patron of Man?
Well, maybe if you people grew some balls you might actually make a difference in this world. You can’t fight the syndicates with compassion. You have to be ruthless, like me.
And CastleVania… yes, CastleVania will help me, help me do what your kind never could.

Ralston turns to leave

SPENCER BELNADES
I can’t let you do that.

Ralston stops.

RALSTON CRUZ
I admire you Spencer.
But your kind just doesn’t understand this world. It’s too far gone.
Goodness can’t be inspired out of people anymore, it has to be beaten out them!
I don’t know how or why, but CastleVania will help me do just that.

Ralston turns to leave
Spncer runs after Ralston

SPENCER BELNADES
Come back! I can’t let you-

Ralston turns around and extends his arm. He shoots a familiar tripple fireball out of his hand.
The fireballs strike Spencer as he runs toward Ralston. Spencer is thrown across the room, landing on his back with his HP dropped to 1/10.

RALSTON CRUZ
I could’ve killed you with that blast.
I didn’t because I consider you a friend.
You’ll see that I’m right.

Ralston turns to leave.
Exit Ralston.

ThunderBoss - October 9, 2007 09:21 PM (GMT)
well, I've seemed to have neglected Metal Gear Thunder for so long that I have apparently forgotten the kind of style I wrote in. I'm going to need to read it all over again before I start writing more.
So, until then I'll try to hold you off with CastleVania: Twilight of Decay.

Oh yeah, this update will have one of a repeating trend of bosses. I based several of the bosses on obscure mosters from movies and TV shows. This one you might recognize from Ghostbusters. Later on will be a boss that originally appeared as a monster from South Park.

Onto the script!

[Spencer continues to explore the library area.
Eventually, Spencer comes across a Room where the walls are lined with bookshelves, except for a few broken windrws, and a huge doorway in the background. The stone doors are the only things perfectly intact, and decorated with carvings of numerous demons.
Smoke pours through the cracks and the door opens. Inside is a swirling vortex of orange clouds and energy. A creature reaches two hands up from below and grasps the floor. A head resembling a combination of a dragon and a hairless dog emerges from bellow. Books fly off their shelves and around the room in tornado like pattern.
The creature lifts itself into the room and faces spencer. It is roughly the size of a bear, and resembled a cross between a hairless dog an iguana. The books encircle the creature, surrounding it like a shield.
BOSS: ZUUL
Zuul will walk toward Spencer slowly, sometimes stopping to howl, at which time books will fly toward Spencer. Zuul will slowly back Spencer into the corner at which time there will be little hope for survival. Spencer must defeat the fifteen possessed books encircling Zuul for the next stage to begin.
After he possessed books are defeated, Zuul wil rear back and howl. It will then start leaping around the room very quickly, sometimes stopping to walk slowly for a short time. Zuul can cling to wals, but cannot walk along them or cling to the ceiling. Zuul will alternate between lunging at Spencer and attacking with his claws (which induce poison) and attacking from a distance with beams of light shone from its eyes (which induces petrification).
Upon being defeated, Zuul will harden into stone, and then its body will break apart and the pieces will be sucked into the vortex. Spencer will also be sucked into the vortex.
Spencer emerges from similar portal elsewhere in the castle, along with the pieces of Zuul. Spencer is thrown onto the ground. From the decor one can tell Spencer is in the Great Halls area.]

Spencer pushes himself up.
He is dirty and has a bloody lip.

SPENCER BELNADES
What the hell happened?
I… I know this place. I’m near the entrance.
If I could find more of these things… I could use them to get around the castle quicker.

[Spencer explores the new section of the Great Halls area. The monsters here include several forms of lycanthropes, golems, and beast like monsters. This new area of the castle leads down into the lower levels where there are pools inhabited by mermen.
Spencer comes across a forked path but only has the abilities to take one route. Traveling down that route, there is progressively less décor and more intricate shelving and doorways.
Spencer enters a cobblestone hall with a background of shelves carved out o the rock, filled with decaying and cobweb covered old machines such as bellows, adzes, and pottery.]

Alex stands with his arms folded with his back to Spencer.

ALEX CARRDE
Belnades…

SPENCER BELNADES
Why the hell didn’t you tell us?

ALEX CARRDE
Come again?

SPENCER BELNADES
That this was CastleVania! That Dracula once lived here! Why didn’t you tell us that?

Alex turns to face Spencer and puts his hands in his pockets.

ALEX CARRDE
For the simple reason that this is not CastleVania.
Where we are is possibly a reflection, or a facsimile, I haven’t determined what exactly it is, but it is not CastleVania.

SPENCER BELNADES
Ralston sure as hell thinks it is.

ALEX CARRDE
Cruz is mistaken.
Had this been the ancestral home of the dark noble, than I would have sensed it.

SPENCER BELNADES
To hell with your senses!
I know what this place is, and you’re not going to convince me its not, and you’re not going to convince me Ralston isn’t the one we should be worried about here!

ALEX CARRDE
Explain.

SPENCER BELNADES
The castle’s done something to his head. He’s gone psychotic. He thinks he’s going to become some sort of divine vigilante.

ALEX CARRDE
Even if your words are true, Ralston poses no threat.
It is only through CastleVania that he could find the power to become host to the Dark Lord. And I reiterate, this is not CastleVania.

Alex turns to leave.
Exit Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
Hey wait!
… Dark Lord?

[From the shelved hall Spencer enters the Laboratory area. The Laboratory area is predominantly green and blue, There are undecorated glass windows in greens and grays, and rusting steel beams support the arches roofs. There are very few intricate carvings, and there are old rusted machines scattered about, most of which having to do with electricity. Shelves and counters in the background are filed with broken and decaying small machines and glass and clay containers and books and measuring devices. The level of technology seems to come from the 1920’s. Everything has aged to the point of not functioning. There are sporadic pools of fluid, which according to its color, is either water, a viscous but harmless fluid, or a damaging fluid.
The enemies in the lab area reflect its nature. The lab is infested with fleamen armed with knives, vials of corrosive chemicals, and revolvers. The area is also infested with giant insects and arachnids. Often you will find one or more fleamen riding the arthropods. Less common are strong armors, golemns, and gelatinous creatures.
Spencer enters a red carpeted hallway with the background filled with an ancient iron cog and belt electrical generator.]

Teresa stands at the end of the hallway with her hands clasped in front of her.
Spencer approaches Teresa.

SPENCER BELNADES
Teresa?

Teresa turns around.

TERESA BARTLEY
Spencer?
I was looking… for the kids… and…

SPENCER BELNADES
They’re fine. They’re back at the castle entrance.
They got hurt pretty bad but they'll live just fine.

TERESA BARTLEY
Thank you. I was afraid they might be dead.

SPENCER BELNADES
Well, Alex seems to put limitless faith in the power of the name Belmont.
Even if its deserved he just can’t get it into his head that there's things kids just can’t fight.
Speaking of which, have you found out that you have some kind of strange power?

TERESA BARTLEY
I… uhh… no I haven’t.

SPENCER BELNADES
I’m a Patron of Man remember? It’s my job not to judge people.

TERESA BARTLEY
Okay, just don’t tell anyone else.

SPENCER BELNADES
I promise.

TERESA BARTLEY
I… I think I’m a vampire.

SPENCER BELNADES
A vampire? How so?

TERESA BARTLEY
I uhh… I drank the blood of the monsters, of the fish people. Just like you see in books and games, I bit them on the throat and sucked it out. It didn’t enjoy it I swear! I was like an instinct, like I was starving.

SPENCER BELNADES
Well, this was once Dracula’s castle.

TERESA BARTLEY
Dracula!? At this point I’m ready to believe anything.
And then there’s more. I can… I can stare at the creatures here and tell them what to do just by thinking it to them.

SPENCER BELNADEs
You can control the monsters? No wonder Alex was so afraid about you.

TERESA BARTLEY
I’ve only ever told them not to hurt me, to leave me alone I swear it!
Am I going to become like them?

SPENCER BELNADES
No, I’m more worried about Ralston than you.

TERESA BARTLEY
Ralston, why?

SPENCER BELNADES
The castle’s given him delusions of grandeur. I think he’s capable of anything. And I think he’s going to try to use you to get what he wants.
… By the way, do you know anything about a Dark Lord?

TERESA BARTLEY
Dark Lord? No, that doesn’t mean anything to me.

SPENCER BELNADES
Well, whatever the case, if you see Ralston, just run. Don’t try to fight him or reason with him. Just run.

TERESA BARTLEY
I’ll do that.

SPENCER BELNADES
Tell me, at the castle entrance, you didn’t want to say what you did for a living. Why?

TERESA BARTLEY
Your job is not to judge people?

SPENCER BELNADES
That’s right.

TERESA BARTLEY
I’m a… prostitute.
I was a schoolteacher once, before the syndicates took over. After that, well, what I did was the only way to survive.

SPENCER BELNADES
Is it true that London is a war zone?

TERESA BARTLEY
A war zone between drug lords from… The United States, Mexico, India, China, and Russia. The British don’t even control their own country anymore. There aren’t many people I knew before the whole mess who are still alive.
The Patrons of Man tried to come into London and built gardens and schools and community centers and all that shit. They were all killed and everything they built was either burned down or turned into gang hideouts. So excuse me if I don’t have much faith in them.

SPENCER BELNADES
Most of the time I don’t have much faith in them. But like I said, they’re the only thing in my life right now that makes any sense.

TERESA BARTLEY
How so?

SPENCER BELNADES
Well, let’s just say I was part of the problem once. And I did something that made me... confused. Don’t ask anything more.
Listen, I think it’s a good thing that you’re lost. Keep on wandering, that way Ralston will have a harder time finding you. He was too much for me to fight, and he’s too much for you. Get going, keep on the move, never stop in one place longer than you have to.

TERESA BARTLEY
Alright.

Teresa walks past Spencer.
Exit Teresa.

BigK - October 9, 2007 09:32 PM (GMT)
It's interesting how you're bringing up more of the past for some characters, such as how Teresa goes from teacher to ho? Unexpected and unusual, but fitting given the background of war you imputted in London. And Teresa, if Alex bit her neck if I recall, so naturally that's why she thinks she's a vampire, because she is.

Having her and Spencer discuss what this castle is doing to people, adds a rather horror type genre to your script, and mixed with action, it could prove to be very interesting.

One grammatical error: It didn't enjoy it. Change the it to an I because that's the proper text as you had it in the sentence.

And Spencer asked Teresa if she knew anything about the Darkn Lord. Fix that, and you're set. So far, I'm still interested bud. Nice work.

ThunderBoss - October 9, 2007 09:56 PM (GMT)
Alex didn't bite anyone's neck... yet. He drank blood from Harper's wound, which was inflicted by a Darkwing Bat. He never touched Teresa.

QUOTE (ThunderBoss @ Oct 9 2007, 09:56 PM)
Alex didn't bite anyone's neck... yet. He drank blood from Harper's wound, which was inflicted by a Darkwing Bat. He never touched Teresa.

Sorry I got Harper and Teresa mixed up. My mistake. Funny though, I would've assumed he'd have dug in more. Or is Alex perhaps not evil like Vampires tend to be?

ThunderBoss - October 11, 2007 06:00 PM (GMT)
Well, like I said, if you were a follower of the CastleVania series, you would instantly know who Alex really is, and what his role in the game would be.

The boss I mentioned earlier that I plucked out of South Park? Spencer fights it in this update.

BTW, I talk about pseudo-religious, spiritual things here, but that's only because that's the trend in the CastleVania series itself.
I'm really an agnostic.

Onto the script...

[Spencer continues to explore the Laboratory Area. As he goes deeper, the state of decay steadily decreases until the laboratory is pristine and the machines are in working condition.
Spencer enters a very large room where two statues in the foreground are incased in glass boxes. One is of a nine foot tall gargoyle skeleton with a eagle’s beak, holding onto a twelve foot halberd. The other is of a nine foot tall humanoid reptilian creature with a short stubby tail, a dragon like head, and arms flowing into bat like wings.
In the background is a massive antique Tesla coil. Two ghosts, one red and one green, float down and absorb themselves into the Tesla Coil. The tesla coil glows violet and violet lightning arcs down and shatters the glass cases around the statues. More lightning arcs down and strikes the statues themselves, bringing them to life.
BOSS: SLOGRA AND GAIBON
Slogra and Gaibon individually behave in similar ways as their previous incarnations. But this time they generally stay close to each other. If spencer gets to close to one, the other will attack him aggressively, disregarding its own safety. Neither have a second form on their own. But once one is defeated, it will turn back into a statue, and its ghost will fly out and them absorb itself into the other. The other will then take on the second form of its previous incarnation, but will turn black and be far faster and stronger than it was the first time around.
When the second of the two is defeated, it will turn to stone as well and crumble. Both the red and green ghosts will flee from it, only to be caught in the last discharge of black electricity from the Tesla coil. Causing them both to explode in a shower of sparks.
Spencer enters the next room, which is a storage room of sorts, containing shelves full of chests, drawers, glass and clay containers, and scrolls. There is a chest containing several potion ingredients and a recipe for a new spell potion.]

Spencer walks into the center of the room.
A ball of light floats down from above and transforms into the image of the white haired boy in the white trench coat and split blue jeans held together with buckles.

SPENCER BELNADES
You again!?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
It doesn’t matter if she runs or hides, Ralston will still find her.
You need to find a way to become stronger than he is, because sooner or later, you’re going to have to fight him.

SPENCER BELNADES
What makes Ralston so much of a threat?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
There is a straight line you can draw between Ralston Cruz, and Vlad Dracula.

SPENCER BELNADES
Ralston is related to Dracula?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
In a way, you could say that Ralston is Dracula’s direct descendant.
Alex doesn’t consider this relation to be a threat because he’s convinced this isn’t Dracula’s castle. But I know for a fact that it is.

SPENCER BELNADES
Why doesn’t he think this is CastleVania?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
His senses deceive him.
What he normally senses as CastleVania is in fact the castle’s link to its master.
But CastleVania no longer has a master, so he can’t sense it for what it really is.

SPENCER BELNADES
Ralston said the castle is dying. Is that because it doesn’t have a master?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Normally CastleVania collapses with the death of its master. But for some reason, when Dracula died his final death at the turn of the millennium, it didn’t. Its death became slow and agonizing. Now, a hundred and twenty years later, CastleVania is on its deathbed.
I’m not sure, but I think it brought us all here because it wants a new master.
If Ralston becomes that master, than the only thing that could follow is an apocalypse.

SPENCER BELNADES
Alex said something bout Ralston becoming host to the Dark Lord.
What was he talking about?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
I don’t know much about it, but I’ll tell you what I can.
Supposedly, the Dark Lord was the source of Dracula’s power. It’s not alive, but it’s not quite inanimate either. It’s more a force than an entity. But it’s pure evil.
Alex would know more about it than I would.

SPENCER BELNADES
One more thing before you go.
Who are you? Even if it’s not important I want to know.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
I died a little under forty years ago, before the despair taking place on earth today.
In life I was another with intimate ties to Dracula, but I rejected my heritage and chose to live as a normal human.
I was content to rest peacefully forever, free from the burdens of matter and time. I suppose CastleVania had other plans.

The White Haired Boy transforms back into the ball of light and floats away.

[Spencer collects what’s in the storage room and backtracks through the Laboratory area, given a new ability and now able to access sections of the Laboratory area he could not before.
Spencer travels into the lower floors of the laboratory area. The Laboratory Area’s rate of decay slowly increases back to its entrance levels as Spencer descends further.
Spencer enters an undecorated hallway with few things in the background except hanging wires and rusted cogs leaning against the wall and a huge doorway. The stone doors are perfectly intact and decorated with carvings of numerous demons.
Smoke pours through the cracks and the door opens. Inside is a swirling vortex of orange clouds and energy.
Eight black, hairy arthropod legs as big around as tree trunks grasp hold of the floor, doors, and ceiling. The legs pull up what appear to be a giant black widow spider with a body as large as a small house. The spider screams in a sound eerily similar to a dolphin’s whistle.
BOSS: THE HOLY QUEEN SPIDER
The Holy Queen Spider will always hold the doors open with two legs. With its other six legs it will reach through the doorway and attempt to stab or crush Spencer. As she does so, she will often turn her head and spit green poison at Spencer.
Sometimes the Holy Queen Spider will retract her head into the background. When this happens, four to twelve giant spiders as large as Spencer will crawl through the doorway. The spiders crawl slow but jump quick and far, and can walk along walls and ceilings. They inflict poison on touching Spencer. Spencer must defeat all the spiders before the Holy Queen Spider will reemerge.
When the Holy Queen Spider is defeated, she will scream and the slowly break into pieces which get sucked into the vortex. Spencer will also get sucked into the vortex.
Spencer emerges from similar portal elsewhere in the castle, along with the pieces of The Holy Queen Spider. Spencer is thrown onto the ground. The surroundings are shimmering gray, caramel, and white stone. The background is of stalagmites, stalactites, columns, and collapsed cave walls. Further into the background, are waterfalls and underground lakes alongside huge crystal formations.]

Spencer pushes himself up.
He is covered in spider guts and has a bloody nose.

SPENCER BELNADES
Why can’t those rides ever be any smoother?
God damn, how am I going to get this shit off of me!?
… Where am I?

[Spencer is now in the Caverns area.
Spencer explores the caverns area. It is more maze like than any other area he has been to so far. There are also more secret passageways and collapsible walls here than anywhere else. There are sporadic pools of water and waterfalls. Occasionally, Spencer will run across a lone piece of ruin of a haphazardly build bridge or staircase carved out of the cavern rock.
The monsters in the Caverns area are mostly varieties of beasts, living and undead, jellies, golems, and plants. There are no humanoids or armors in the Caverns area.
Spencer enters a long tunnel overlooking a backdrop of an underground lake surrounded by waterfalls and the shambles of a small underground castle jutting up from the water. The view is partially obscured by stalagmites, stalactites, and columns.]

Alex stands at the end of the hallway facing Spencer with his arms folded.

ALEX CARRDE
Are you finding it difficult making your way back to the castle entrance?

SPENCER BELNADES
I’m finding it difficult to believe you’re in as much control of thissituation as you claim to be.

ALEX CARRDE
I have no time for your halfwit theories and petty bickering.

Alex turns to leave

SPENCER BELNADES
What’s the Dark Lord?

Alex stops.

ALEX CARRDE
An element that will not come into play here, and is therefore unimportant.

SPENCER BELNADES
Tell me anyway.

ALEX CARRDE
Why must you know?

SPENCER BELNADES
Call it morbid curiosity.

Alex lowers his head and sighs. He turns back toward Spencer and approaches him.

ALEX CARRDE
Many cultures, mostly very primitive ones, have been aware of the existence of an insubstantial dark force that pervades all things and influences human behavior for the worse.

SPENCER BELNADES
I know a lot of tribes have stories about dark spirits making people do evil things.

ALEX CARRDE
It is a great deal of speculation stacked atop a small amount of insight. The true nature of the Dark Lord is far different.
It is not the Dark Lord that creates human evil, it is human evil that created it, and will continue to sustain its existence for all time. It has no consciousness, and no motive.

SPENCER BELNADES
How was the Dark Lord the source of Dracula’s power?

ALEX CARRDE
How did you know that?

SPENCER BELNADES
I have… sources.

ALEX CARRDE
Fine.
Normally the Dark Lord is dormant, but when human evil reaches an apex, it is given the power to wreak apocalyptic devastation on the world.

SPENCER BELNADES
Through a host?

ALEX CARRDE
The Dark Lord is drawn to certain humans like iron to a magnet. It is these individuals the Dark Lord has the power to infect for whatever reason. The host is granted godlike power in exchange for their sanity and their soul. What results is that the Dark Lord is given the consciousness and motive it once lacked, in the form of its host’s most hideous desires.

SPENCER BELNADES
So it’s a parasite?

ALEX CARRDE
A parasite? The parasite!

SPENCER BELNADES
And Dracula was its host once.

ALEX CARRDE
Not once, many times.
Normally when the host of the Dark Lord is killed, it merely seeks another. But Dracula found a way to bond himself to it.
Instead of the Dark Lord finding a new host with each period of activity, fate would find some way of resurrecting Dracula and making him host to the Dark Lord once again.

SPENCER BELNADES
And when Dracula was killed for good, it was by breaking this bond?

ALEX CARRDE
That is correct.

SPENCER BELNADES
You’re wrong Alex. This is CastleVania.

ALEX CARRDE
Your mysterious sources?

SPENCER BELNADES
That’s right.

ALEX CARRDE
What did they tell you?

SPENCER BELNADES
That you can’t sense CastleVania for what it really is because it doesn’t have a master. And I know the castle’s supposed to die without a master, but what if it didn’t?

ALEX CARRDE
The only way it would be possible if the master rejected ownership of the castle, rather than dying as its master.
… Soma! It was him!

SPENCER BELNADES
Who?

ALEX CARRDE
No time to explain!
If what you say is true, than Bartley may attempt to use the castle to become the next host of the Dark Lord. We must stop her!

Alex turns to leave.
Exit Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
Hey wait!
I’m still more worried about Ralston.

ThunderBoss - October 14, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
You know, very few people have responded to this, and I'd like some comments. It's not a demand, or even a request, just something I'd appreciate. whatever happens I'll still go on with this.

Onto the script...

[Spencer continues to explore the Caverns area. As he goes deeper into the caverns, the amount of water slowly increases, as does the amount of Ruins. Toward the end of the Caverns, Spencer will at last encounter powerful humanoid and devil type monsters.
Spencer enters a room consisting of a large stone bridge across a chasm. The background contains more bridges and numerous waterfalls behind them.
As Spencer approaches the center of the bridge, a high pitched shriek is heard. Spencer looks up.
On the ledge of a broken bridge sits a ten foot tall knight in black armor and black capes adorned with gold trim and red runes. The knight wields an iron javelin and rides a ghostly giant horse, armored similar to the knight’s own.
The mounted knight leaps from the ledge and lands on the bridge in front of Spencer.
BOSS FIGHT: ARMODULLAHAN
Armodullahan will briefly rear back and shriek -the only time it is vulnerable to conventional weapons- before jousting at Spencer. This attack is extremely difficult to dodge. Spencer must slide beneath the invisible horse as its legs are in the air.
Armodullahan will take a moment to rear back and rear up again before charging once more.
After taking so much damage, the ghostly horse will buck and throw Armodullahan off his mount. In its panic, the ghostly horse will jump off the side of the bridge.
Armodullahan will toss his Javelin off the Side of the bridge and unsheathe two huge scimitars. Armodullahan will then attempt to fight Spencer with sword combos while moving about the bridge with fantastic acrobatics. Armodullahan can guard himself, holding his swords out defensively, and can generally only be hit while in the midst of an acrobatic move.
When Armodullahan is defeated, his head will sever from his body and he will collapse on the ground and burst into flames.
Spencer ventures further into the Caverns area, eventually leaving it behind for the Sewars area. The Sewars area is similar to the hidden level in CastleVania: Dracula X. It is a mazelike series of underground ruins in the style of ancient Rome. Half destroyed columns, staircases, waterways, and walkways surround Spencer. Waterfalls, rivers, pools, and streams flow over almost all of the ruins. The monsters in the Sewars area are mostly aquatic, and mutated. There are mutant and undead plants, mermen, and aquatic animals both real and mythical.
Spencer enters a hallway consisting of a stone bridge above a fast flowing river. Ruined columns dot the background, the few complete ones holding up pieces of what was once a roof.]

Teresa Bartley sits on the floor next to the exit.
Spencer approaches Teresa.

TERESA BARTLEY
Stay away from me!

Spencer stops

SPENCER BELNADES
What’s wrong?

TERESA BARTLEY
It was Ralston.

SPENCER BELNADES
What did he do?

TERESA BARTLEY
He found me. He attacked me! He didn’t even say anything.
I couldn’t help it.

SPENCER BELNADES
Help what?

TERESA BARTLEY
I… I bit into his throat. I drank his blood.
He… He broke free before I could kill him and ran away.

SPENCER BELNADES
Don’t be apologize for that.
You probably saved us all allot of trouble by stopping… whatever Ralston was going to do to you.

TERESA BARTLEY
No! No! No! That’s it!
It’s the blood! Ralston’s blood! It’s doing something to me right now! I don’t know what though.

SPENCER BELNADES
Try to describe it.

TERESA BARTLEY
I don’t… I just… I need to get to the Castle’s throne room! But I know if I do, something bad will happen. That’s why I’m here, as far away from it as possible.

SPENCER BELNADES
The Dark Lord.

TERESA BELNADES
What?

SPENCER BELNADES
Alex told me of a force called the Dark Lord. It’s a kind of parasite created by the dark thoughts of humans. It’s-

TERESA BARTLEY
The Dark Lord! Yes, I know what it is. I’ve always known what it is.

SPENCER BELNADES
The throne room... that's got to be how you can reach it.

TERESA BARTLEY
Ralston knows. He knows what it is. He knows.

SPENCER BELNADES
If he knows, he’ll try to get there himself.

TERESA BARTLEY
Spencer… Kill me.

SPENCER BELNADES
What?

Teresa stands up.

TERESA BARTLEY
I’m going to become a monster Spencer. Kill me.

SPENCER BELNADES
No! No way!
To help those who are not hopelessly lost, and to protect them from those who are. That’s what I swore! I won’t kill you unless I don’t have any other choice. I have to find a way to help you.

TERESA BARTLEY
That Patron of Man bullshit’s never helped me before and it won’t help me now! You people never saved anybody! All you’ve ever done is delay the inevitable!
You can’t help me. Just kill me and get it over with.

SPENCER BELNADES

TERESA BARTLEY
What the hell are you waiting for!? Do it!

Spencer hesitates and then runs past Teresa into the next room.
Exit Spencer.

TERESA BARTLEY
You fucking bastard!!!

Teresa lowers her head and walks the other way.
Exit Teresa.

[Spencer continues to explore the Sewers area. Traveling deeper into the area, he finds a series of tubes through which water flow, as if they were dug by giant worms. Spencer swims through the tubes that eventually empty into a massive underground lake where the ruins of a roman style temple is submerged.
Exploring the lake, Spencer eventually feels an earthquake. Two giant bronze colored sea serpents, appearing to be a cross between typical Korean dragons and cobras, burst through the groundand swim around Spencer. They scream eerie, soft warbling screams and swim away.
BOSS: SEA SERPENTS
The Sea Serpents will swim very rapidly around the exterior of the lake, gradually closing in on the center. When they reach the center, they permanently shift attack patterns. The Sea Serpents will alternately swim toward and away from Spencer, either trying to ram him or swoop over or under him and fire streams of green energy at Spencer. Their only vulnerable spot is their open mouths.
When one Sea Serpent is defeated, the other becomes far more aggressive, and will ram and knock down the columns of the submerged temple. When the second Sea Serpent is defeated, it will writhe and scream, eventually swimming into the far right wall where it crashes and collapses the wall revealing another tunnel.
Spencer swims into this tunnel, and it eventually leads him to a recipe for a spell that will allow him to explore previously inaccessible places, and another portal door.
Spencer takes the portal back to the Cathedral area where he can now access previously unreachable areas. Exploring these areas, Spencer eventually finds his way into the Gardens Area.
The Gardens area consists mostly of stone bridges and walkways and the insides of broken greenhouses. The Gardens is heavily decorated with stonework, fountains, columns, statues, often all in one, and most of them broken. Very few of the plants are green and the Gardens area has been completely overgrown with the withered weeds. The Gardens area is very densely packed with monsters of the beast, devil, and plant varieties.
Spencer enters a large greenhouse. In the background is a ruined fountain surrounded by columns with a statue of a devil in the center. Withered vines cover the fountain and the landscaped garden around it is dead.]

Ralston stands facing Spencer away from Spencer in the center of the greenhouse. A bandage is wrapped around his neck.
Spencer runs toward Ralston

SPENCER BELNADES
You son of a bitch! What did you do to Teresa!

RALSTON CRUZ
What are you talking about? The bitch attacked me! I was just tried to take her back to the entrance, like Alex told me to.

SPENCER BELNADES
Bull shit! You wanted her to bite you! I know what you’re really after.

RALSTON CRUZ
You do? Because I’m kind of in the dark about that myself.

SPENCER BELNADES
The Dark Lord you prick!

RALSTON CRUZ
That thing? Of all people I thought a Patron of Man would put more faith in me than that! There’s no way I’m letting something spawned by the collective filth of humanity ruin my precious castle.

SPENCER BELNADES
Your castle?

RALSTON CRUZ
That’s right, it’s mine. With every new soul I drink I understand more and more. I know I am the ancestor of Dracula, and thusly I am the rightful master of CastleVania!
The castle brought us all here hoping one of us would become its new master. I will be the one to accept that honor.
And with that power, I will make amends for every crime Dracula ever committed ten fold! I’ll sculpt our hellhole of a world into a paradise.

SPENCER BELNADES
I don’t believe you.

RALSTON CRUZ
I don’t blame you. If I were in your position I wouldn’t believe me.

Ralston turns away from Spencer and raises his arms.

RALSTON CRUZ
I’ve never been a father Spencer, and at my age I don’t think I ever will be.
But I’ve found my child, in CastleVania.

Spencer draws his weapon and runs toward Ralston.
Ralston vanishes and reappears behind Spencer with his arm outstretched. He fires a volley of triple fireballs at Spencer, knocking him to the ground.
Ralston puts his hands in his pockets.

RALSTON CRUZ
I don’t want to kill you Spencer.

SPENCER BELNADES
You’re hopelessly lost Ralston. By the time this is over, one of us will be dead.

RALSTON CRUZ
Why are you so determined?

Spencer stands up.

SPENCER BELNADES
You’re not the only one who wants to make amends.

RALSTON CRUZ
Come again?

SPENCER BELNADES
Before I became a Patron of Man, I was a member of one of those crime syndicates you would’ve prosecuted.

RALSTON CRUZ
Than you can join me! You can borrow my power and we will make amends together!

SPENCER BELNADES
I don’t think so.

RALSTON CRUZ
It would be wrong to force you Spencer, but somehow I will convince you that what I’m doing is right.

Ralston disappears.
Spencer falls to his hands and knees.
A ball of light floats down from above and transforms into the image of the white haired boy in the white trench coat and split blue jeans held together with buckles.

SPENCER BELNADES
You again?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Ralston is lying. He fully intends to become host to the Dark Lord.

SPENCER BELNADES
Tell me something I don’t already know.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Like what?

SPENCER BELNADES
Like why Alex still thinks Ralston isn’t a threat.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
As I said before, Alex is too old and too set in his ways. When he makes an assertion, it’s very difficult for him to change his mind. And in his mind, the threat of Dracula is gone forever.

SPENCER BELNADES
Who’s Soma?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Soma!!! I…. He’s… his full name was Soma Cruz. He was Ralston’s ancestor. I... I knew him very well.

SPENCER BELNADES
Alex seemed to think he was the one responsible for the castle’s current state.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
I’ve thought about it a long time… and as much as I don’t want to admit it, it’s true.

SPENCER BELNADES
How?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Soma Cruz was the reincarnation of a man named Matthias Cronqvist. He was a good man, but the circumstances of his life drove him insane, and drove him into the power of the Dark Lord. Mattias Cronqvist was the man who eventually became Dracula.

SPENCER BELNADES
So Ralston really is the descendant of Dracula.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Well, yes and no.
Soma Cruz was heaven’s way of showing mercy to the man Dracula once was, of giving Matthias Cronqvist another chance to live out his life as a decent human being. And that’s what he did.

SPENCER BELNADES
Ralston's going to ruin that effort.

WHITE HAIRED BOY
Only if you can’t stop him.

SPENCER BELNADES
How do I stop someone that powerful?

WHITE HAIRED BOY
You are growing stronger all the time Spencer. It took Ralston a far greater attack to bring you down now than he once did. I have confidence that when the time comes, you will be strong enough to face him.

The White Haired Boy transforms back into a ball of light and floats away.
Spencer stands up slowly.

BigK - October 14, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
I can assume Raltson is one of the bad guys, he's certainly interesting in his backstory of being the true master of Castlevania. Makes me curious to see what his blood is doing to Teresa.

However, one thing which I regret not mentioning earlier, I have no idea how this new boss concept works. Can you fill me in? It's rather confusing in that part.

Also, yes, gaining comments is something we all want. You want comments, then there's one major factor I've learned, two actually:

1. Be patient, they will come in due time, once everyone is caught up with your story.
2. You have to post more in other peoples' writing topics, or outside the writers' section bud. People gotta get a sense of what you're about. They all know and like MGT, but know much less about Castlevania, to try and reach out, that's about it.

ThunderBoss - October 20, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
In this update you'll finally see the first of the three possible endings. The other two however, won't come for several more updates.

Onto the script.

[Spencer has 1 HP and must heal himself.
Spencer continues to explore the Gardens area. The Gardens area has no boss. Instead, Spencer finds his way from there to the ClockTower area.
The ClockTower area is similar to that of previous CastleVania games. The differences are that most of the machinery has either toppled or has rusted tight. Few of the cogs or axels turn on their own accord, though some turn from Spencer’s weight. There are numerous traps involving machines, such as the possibility of being crushed between cogs or axels. The enemies in the ClockTower area reflect its mechanical nature. There are numerous gremlins and flea men, strong armors, golems, possessed objects such as dolls, and various robots made of clockwork.
Spencer explores the ClockTower, climbing higher until he reaches the top. There, Spencer is outside on a deck with the giant broken clock face in the background. The wind alternates directions slowly pushing Spencer to the left or right.
The broken clock face glows and then shatters. A Ghostly transparent figure in intricate tattered black ad blue cloaks emerges from the hole where the clock face was. It extends an arm and a plain black handled scythe appears in its hand. The figure laughs with a voice similar to scraping metal.
BOSS: DEATH
Death is unaffected by the wind. He flies around the screen in a pseudo-random pattern, occasionally stopping to perform one of three attacks. Death’s first and most direct attack is to throw his scythe out to the side, which encircles the screen like a boomerang before returning to his hand. Death’s second attack is to raise his free hand and summon a volley of flying sickles that poorly home in on Spencer. Death’s third attack is to pull a black potion from his cloak and drop it to the ground. From the shattered vial emerges three to nine enemies that can include stronger versions of flea men, bats, zombies or ghosts.
In this stage, only Death’s scythe is vulnerable. After Spencer destroys the scythe, Death laughs again and becomes opaque. He drops to the floor and equips two large sickles. This stage of the battle is similar to the second stage of Armodullahan. Death will fight Spencer using sickle combos and attempt to use acrobatics to dodge Spencer’s attacks. Unlike Armodullahan, Death cannot guard himself, but can throw his sickles at Spencer, which loop back to him like boomerangs. Death is also faster and more aggressive than Armodullahan, and is a far smaller target.
When Death is defeated, a swirling red portal opens in the hole where the clock face was, and Death is spaghettified as he’s sucked inside screaming.
Death leaves behind a recipe for a spell that gives Spencer the ability to access areas previously unreachable.
Spencer ventures back through the ClockTower and into new areas, which eventually lead to a new area within the Great Halls area. From there, Spencer can access the Castle Keep.
The Castle Keep is built of dark blue cobblestone and is largely undecorated, aside from broken windows and torn drapes. It is also mostly devoid of enemies, but what few there are, are always massive, extremely powerful devil, armor, and bird types. The Castle Keep is also the single most straightforward of all the areas.
Spencer enters a massive rooftop between two towers on either side. As he approaches the center, what seems like an earthquake knocks Spencer to the ground. Two giant, green reptilian hands over ten feet across grasp either tower, blocking the exits. The hands pull up a giant dragon’s head encompassing an entire screen. The dragon roars with a voice so base its almost inaudible, but the roar shakes the screen. The tip of a tail almost the size of the head peaks from the background and slowly sways back and forth the entire length of the battle screen.
BOSS: LEVIATHAN
Leviathan’s head turns to follow Spencer’s movements. Only Leviathan’s throat is vulnerable. Leviathan has three attacks it will occasionally execute. Leviathan’s first attack is to raise its tail in the background and slapping it down into the foreground at Spencer’s position. This attack is difficult to dodge and deals massive damage. Leviathan’s second attack is to briefly breathe a stream of black gas in Spencer’s direction. The stream is slow but takes up a large portion of the screen. If it connects, it deals moderate damage but inflicts poison and curse. Leviathan’s third attack is to snarl and then lunge its open mouth at Spencer, dealing incredible damage and inflicting poison if it connects. To dodge this, Spencer must double jump away from Leviathan at a certain point in its snarl. Spencer will then land on top of Leviathan’s snout, and then be thrown off as Leviathan pulls back.
During the battle, Leviathan will periodically roar smack its head against the roof, cracking it and making the terrain uneven, after taking so much damage.
After being Defeated, Leviathan -with green blood gushing from its throat- will Roar once again and smack his head against the roof one last time, destroying it and sending Spencer falling into the room below.
Spencer wakes up in a large hallway within the Castle Keep surrounded by the ruins of the roof above. Spencer is now in a new area of the Castle Keep. He ventures briefly into it until he enters a stone bridge with a roof help up by columns.]

Alex stands facing away from Spencer.
Spencer approaches Alex.

ALEX CARRDE
You were right. This is CastleVania. Though it is without a Sentient master, there is still a connection, however weak, between it and the Dark Lord.
Only the castle of the dark noble Dracula could have such a connection. But it is too late now.

SPENCER BELNADES
What do you mean it’s too late?

ALEX CARRDE
Teresa Bartley has been possessed by the evil powers of her ancestry.

SPENCER BELNADES
What is it about her that you’re so afraid of?

ALEX CARRDE
She is descended of the vampiress Elizibeth Bartley, one of Dracula’s greatest, and most vicious servants. That ancestry has now consumed her. She has claimed the throne room, and now the power of the Dark Lord is within her.

SPENCER BELNADES
And you’re not worried about the descendant of Dracula himself?

Alex turns around.

ALEX CARRDE
Dracula’s taint was wiped clean long ago.

SPENCER BLENADES
Through Soma Cruz?

ALEX CARRDE
I suppose your ‘sources’ told all about him.
Yes, Soma Cruz rejected the fate of his former incarnation, and in doing so forever erased the inherited evil passed down by his bloodline.
But same cannot be said of the Bartley line.

SPENCER BELNADES
What are you going to do now?

ALEX CARRDE
The throne room is up ahead. I am going there, to kill Bartley.

SPENCER BELNADES
I still don’t believe that she’s really the cause of all this! I think whatever she’s doing is all part of Ralston’s plan.

ALEX CARRDE
That is not possible. Dracula’s taint is-

SPENCER BELNADES
You can take your history lesson and shove it up your ass!
Your so obsessed with bloodlines and taints and shit like that, but have you ever tried to see any of us as people instead of just last names?

ALEX CARRDE

SPENCER BELNADES
Well I’ll tell you just what kind of person Ralston is. He’s obsessed, self righteous, and capable of absolutely anything!

ALEX CARRDE
Even so the fact remains; Bartley must die.

SPENCER BELNADES
As a Patron of Man I can’t let that happen, not unless I know for a fact that it has to.

ALEX CARRDE
Out of curiosity, what is a Patron of Man.

SPENCER BELNADES
What? How could you not know something like that?

ALEX CARRDE
I am unfamiliar with your world as it exists today.

SPENCER BELNADES
From what little I know about you it honestly wouldn't surprise me. And in that case, I think I’ll have to tell you the whole story.
It all started about twenty years ago, with the last world war. It left pretty much the whole world leaderless and lawless. Soon after, crime syndicates replaced nations as the major world powers.
The Patrons of Man were a group of Humanists who decided to try to help in any non-militant way they could. We… build things for communities, schools, gardens, rec. centers, and other stuff.
But usually, the syndicates just try to kill us, and then burn down everything we create.

ALEX CARRDE
If you admit to their inability to render aid, why are you a member?

SPENCER BELNAES
Well, it’s just that, I did some things that made me very confused.

ALEX CARRDE
You wanted to find some form of redemption?

SPENCER BELNADES
Yeah, that’s it.
Now that I’ve answered those questions, I want answers out of you.

ALEX CARRDE
I understand where you come from.

SPENCER BELNADES
Just what are you?

ALEX CARRDE
I told the truth when I said I was a private investigator, and that I was only partly human.
I suppose you can call me a fallback.

SPENCER BELNADES
A what?

ALEX CARRDE
Normally when the power of CastleVania and the Dark Lord reaches their peaks, it is the Belmont family that is called upon to battle them. But when for whatever reason they cannot, Heaven will call upon others to do so, the Dynasty and Belnades families are among them, but I am the most common choice. And now I must take that role again.

SPENCER BELNADES
You can’t.

ALEX CARRDE
Why not.

SPENCER BELNADES
Because it wasn’t heaven that called you or any of us, it was the Castle itself.

ALEX CARRDE
Come again?

SPENCER BELNADES
CastleVania is starving to death without a master, I think it looked for people who had a history with it, and then brought us all here hoping one of us would become the new master.

ALEX CARRDE
Bartley has already claimed that throne.

SPENCER BELNADES
I think she can still be reasoned with.

ALEX CARRDE
… Go on ahead of me.
You may try to reach Bartley, but if she is beyond help-

SPENCER BELNADES
If she’ is, I won’t hesitate to kill her.

ALEX CARRDE
Very well. Good luck Belnades

Spencer runs past Alex.
Exit Spencer.

[Spencer explores the new area of the Castle Keep, eventually reaching an area he already passed. He once again follows the path he took, eventually winding up on the destroyed rooftop where he fought Leviathan. Spencer uses his spells to cross the gap to the other tower.
Spencer continues following the path through the Castle Keep. Eventually he enters a long stone staircase leading up several stories.
From the top of the staircase, Spencer enters the throne room. It is highly decorated as a contrast to the rest of the Castle Keep area. A red carpet in the center of the room takes up half the floor space and least up a set of stairs in the background to a massive red and gold chair. And elaborate system of curtains and draperies hangs in front of an elaborate stained glass window depicting the castle itself.]

Teresa Bartley, now in a bright pink cape over a wine red dress, sits on the throne room chair swirling a glass of blood in her hand.
Spencer approaches the center of the throne room and turns toward Teresa.

SPENCER BELNADES
Teresa!

TERESA BARTLEY
Teresa is gone. I am Elizibeth Bartley, niece of the dark noble, Count Vlad Dracula!

SPENCER BELNADES
I know Teresa is still inside you somewhere.

TERESA BARTLEY
Teresa is dead! And so will you be soon! I am the mistress of CastleVania now! The Dark Lord’s power is mine! No one has the power to stop me, not Cruz, not Carrde, certainly not the half dead Dynasty and the infantile Belmonts, and not you.
You will all die! And then, I can complete the task set forth by my uncle.

SPENCER BELNADES
That being?

TERESA BARTLEY
The extinction of humanity, and the ushering of a new age, the eternal rule of vampires.

SPENCER BELNADES
To aid communities in need. To help those who are not hopelessly lost, and to protect them from those who are. Without prejudice, favoritism, or fear. That is our oath.
I’m sorry Teresa.

Teresa throws her glass to the ground, shattering it.

TERESA BARTLEY
Come and get me little Belnades!

Teresa stands up from her chair.

[BOSS FIGHT: TERESA BARTLEY
Teresa floats into the air and splits into three images of herself. The images will become ghostly transparent and untouchable while they briefly fly about the room and settle into random places within the throne room. The images will then turn opaque and each will randomly execute one of four attacks. One attack is to shoot an arcing thunderbolt from her fingertips that traverses half the screen and deals damage multiple times if it connects. Another attack is to fire a beam of light from her eyes that does damage and petrifies Spencer. The final possible attack is to release a large dark fire orb that travels slowly in a straight line and deals massive damage. These attacks all mimic soul abilities displayed by Soma Cruz in Aria of Sorrow.
Two of the images are illusions and always untouchable. Spencer can tell which Teresa is real by the fact that she executes her attack just before the illusions do, and moves slightly faster when transparent.
After taking so much damage, the false Teressas burst into flames and the real Teresa falls to the ground breathing heavily.]

TERESA BARTLEY
Spencer? Spencer is that you?

SPENCER BELNADES
Teresa?

TERESA BARTLEY
Spencer! I can’t keep myself much longer. I’ll turn back into Elizibeth in just a moment.

SPENCER BELNADES
I understand. I won’t hesitate to finish you off.

TERESA BARTLEY
Thank you.
Listen! I’m not the host of the Dark Lord! I’m just being fed-

Before she can finish her sentence, Teresa screams and floats up into the air. Blood sprays from her forming a two pairs of wings made of twisted flesh.

TERESA BARTLEY
I’m not done yet Belnades! I’ll show you what my real power is!

SPENCER BELNADES
Bring it on bitch.

[Teresa spawns two flaming bats from her hands that fly circles around her. She flies in a pseudo-random pattern around the room periodically spawning more flaming bats to encircle her. Often times she sends the bats away to attack Spencer. The bats are unlike normal enemy bats in that they are fast and swoop like birds. They also deal large amounts of damage and have high HP.
The more bats surround Teresa, the higher her defense and magic defense stats. At more than five or six bats, Spencer will be scarcely able to harm Teresa. Spencer must defeat most or all of the bats before being able to do any appreciable damage to Teresa, who continuously respawns the bats.
When Teresa is defeated, the bats burst into flames and drop to the floor dead. The tapestries in the background also burst into flames and the stained glass window shatters, spraying glass into the foreground.
Teresa screams as her twisted flesh wings also burst into flames and she falls to the floor.]

ENDING ONE: BAD ENDING
IF SPENCER DID NOT SUCCESSFULLY BRING ENOUGH SUPPLIES TO TREAT VINCENT AND HARPER’S WOUNDS.

Teresa Bartley is on her hands and knees in front of Spencer, breathing heavily.

TERESA BARTLEY
This isn’t possible.
cough
I have the power of the Dark Lord.
wheeze
The ultimate power.

SPENCER BELNADES
I’m sorry Teresa, but the woman you were would’ve wanted me to do this.

Spencer strikes Teresa with his weapon.
Teresa falls down dead in a pool of blood.
Alex enters the throne room.
Spencer turns toward Alex.

ALEX CARRDE
You did the right thing Belnades, for your world, and for Bartley.

SPENCER BELNADES
Shut up.

ALEX CARRDE
Perhaps this will come as little comfort but I know what you are going through.

SPENCER BELNADES
How the hell could you know?

ALEX CARRDE
A man I cared deeply for became a monster, very similar to Bartley. I was forced to kill him.

SPENCER BELNADES
Right now I really don’t care.

ALEX CARRDE
In that case, the dimensional barriers of the castle have started to weaken with Bartley’s death. I believe I can use my power to take us back to earth.

SPENCER BELNADES
What about the others?

ALEX CARRDE
They should all follow.

SPENCER BELNADES
Fine then. Do it.

Alex raises his hands and floats up into the air.
A swirling blue portal opens in the background. Alex and Spencer are both sucked inside.
Fade to black.

It is a cloudless night of a full moon on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
Spencer lays asleep on top of a patch of grass. Alex stands some feet away looking out into the ocean.
Spencer stirs and sits up.

SPENCER BELNADES
Wha… What? Where am I?

ALEX CARRDE
I could only cross the dimensions where the barrier was weakest. I did not know initially where that was going to be, but from the scent of the air, I would say we are somewhere on the south coast of Spain.

SPENCER BELNADES
Well, I guess it’s better than staying behind.
In the fight, I almost reached Teresa. She said something about, not really being the host of the Dark Lord.

ALEX CARRDE
She was most likely delirious, babbling nonsense.

SPENCER BELNADES
No, I’m telling you there was more to it than that. She was somehow…
Hey! Where are all the others?

ALEX CARRDE
If they are not here, than that means they could only have perished in the Castle.

SPENCER BELNADES
What!? But how!? I mean, we made it out! We…

Spencer looks away from the cliff face.

SPENCER BELNADES
Holy shit!!!

Alex glances toward Spencer.

ALEX CARRDE
What is it?

SPENCER BELNADES
Look behind you, you idiot!

Alex turns around and looks in the same direction as Spencer.

ALEX CARRDE
Oh my god.

The view pans left.
The horizon glows red and the sky is black. Cities in the distance burn and large areas of land are little more than smoldering craters. In the midst of it all stands a gigantic, haphazardly planned castle.

SPENCER BELNADES
That’s… CastleVania!

ALEX CARRDE
That is not possible. Not unless…

SPENCER BELNADES
Not unless what?

ALEX CARRDE
Not unless Bartley wasn’t really the castle’s master.

SPENCER BELNADES
It was Ralston! It was Ralston the whole time! I told you, you son of a bitch! I told you! But you wouldn’t listen… god… what has he done?

Spencer falls to his hands and knees.
View zooms out.
More and more of the country is revealed to be either burning or in ruins.

ThunderBoss - October 30, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
It seems when you haven't written in so long, it's very difficult to start again. I'm in the middle of writing my next piece of Metal Gear Thunder, but it's going extremely slow. In the meantime, here's the next part of CastleVania: Twilight of Decay.
This part explains who Alex really is, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the series as a whole, and would've known since his very first appearance.

Onto the script...

IF SPENCER DID SUCCESSFULLY BRING ENOUGH SUPPLIES TO TREAT VINCENT AND HARPER’S WOUNDS.

Teresa Bartley is on her hands and knees in front of Spencer, breathing heavily.

TERESA BARTLEY
This isn’t possible.
cough.
I have the power of the Dark Lord.
wheeze.
The ultimate power.

SPENCER BELNADES
I’m sorry Teresa, but the woman you were would’ve wanted me to do this.

VOICE
Stop!!!

Enter Vincent Vivien and Harper running into the throne room.

SPENCER BELNADES
What the hell?

VICENT BELMONT
It wasn’t Teresa!

VIVIEN BELMONT
It was Ralston!

SPENCER BELNADES
What?

HARPER DYNASTY
The prick tired to kill us!

VOICE
What they say is true.

Enter Alex.

ALEX CARRDE
Dynasty and the Belmont twins followed us after Cruz’s attack. After telling me their story I confronted Cruz on the steps to the throne, he fled, but I learned he had already been here before Bartley.
Cruz is the true master of CastleVania and the true host of the Dark Lord. Bartley is simply being fed his power through a link between them.

SPENCER BELNADES
He wanted Teresa to bite him, so he could establish that link.

TERESA BARTLEY
You lying twats!
cough.
The power of the Dark Lord is mine!

ALEX CARRDE
Belmonts. Your powers are of the most divine order.
Let me borrow them now, as we discussed, and I can use them to free Bartley from Cruz’s control.

TERESA BARTLEY
I’m under no one’s control!

VINCENT BELMONT
Okay.

VIVIEN BELMONT
Let’s do it.

Alex approaches Vincent and Vivien.

ALEX CARRDE
This will hurt.

VINCENT BELMONT
It’s okay.

VIVIEN BELMONT
I’m not afraid.

Alex kneels down next to Vincent and Vivien. He grabs Vincent by the head and shoulder and bites into the side of his neck.

SPENCER BELNADES
What the hell?
Alex… you’re a… vampire?

Alex releases Vincent. He grabs Vivien by the head and shoulder and bites into the side of her neck.
Alex releases Vivien and stands up.
Vincent and Vivien kneel down and grasp their necks.
Alex points toward Teresa.

ALEX CARRDE
Evil influences be gone from this woman!

TERESA BARTLEY
You can’t touch me! I have the power of-

Before Teresa could finish her sentence, Alex fires a blue white beam of energy at Teresa. The beam pushes her against the far wall of the throne room. When it is over, Teresa collapses to the ground.
Spencer rushes to Teresa’s side and helps her sit up.

SPENCER BELNADES
Teresa! Teresa is that you?

TERESA BARTLEY
Where am I?

SPENCER BELNADES
I’ll explain later, right now I’ll just say your safe.

Spencer helps Teresa stand up and they both face toward Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
I told you it was Ralston! It was Ralston the whole time.

ALEX CARRDE
I suspect Cruz was trying to use Bartley as a diversion so he could work his will without our interference.

VIVIEN BELMONT
We could barely fight him off.

HARPER DYNASTY
If it wasn’t for all those bandages and food and stuff you brought us, we’d have been roadkill.

TERESA BARTLEY
I… I don’t understand.

ALEX CARRDE
You three take Bartley outside and explain what happened. I have things to discuss with Belnades.

Vincent stands up and approaches Teresa.

VINCENT BELMONT
Come on.

Vincent leads Teresa outside with Vivien and Harper.
Exit Vincent, Vivien, Teresa, and Harper.
Spencer approached Alex.

SPENCER BELNADES
You’re a vampire?

ALEX CARD / ALUCARD
I am only half vampire.
My true name is Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes. I was born in the thirteenth century from a human mother, the only offspring of the dark noble Vlad Dracula.
But I rejected my father’s madness. I prefer you call me Alucard, a name I created to spite my father.

SPENCER BELNADES
That… explains everything. What about Ralston?

ALUCARD
For all of my power, I can’t go near him. He has fled to an area of the castle off limits to any but its master, and whomever he admits.
You would have seen it, an impassible wall of shadow and smoke.

SPENCER BELNADES
Yes, I’ve seen it.

ALUCARD
Behind that wall is where the connection between CastleVania and the Dark Lord exists, a portal to an ethereal place called the Chaos Realm. Cruz is hiding there, basking in that power.
He will not let any of us through, but I believe he might open the door for you.

SPENCER BELNADES
Yes. He said I was his friend. I wouldn’t be surprised if he still wants to convince me to join his side.

ALUCARD
You are thusly the only one among us who can stand against him.

SPENCER BELNADES
I know. It’s just that… If he could make Teresa that powerful, I don’t know if I’ll be able to beat him.

ALUCARD
Then let me be the judge of your abilities.

SPENCER BELNADES
What?

ALUCARD
I only recently awoke from a sleep of a hundred years. My powers are not what they once were, but they are still great enough to judge your potential.
Attack me Belnades. If you can defeat me, than I will have no doubt that you are strong enough to defeat Cruz.

SPENCER BELNADES
Okay… okay let’s do this.

ALUCARD
I will use the last of the Belmonts’ powers to heal you before the battle.

Alucard raises his hand.
Lights swirl around Spencer and absorb themselves into his body, completely recovering his HP and MP, and relieving any status ailments.

ALUCARD
Now come at me Belnades! And don’t hold back.

[BOSS FIGHT: ALUCARD
Alucard will dash around the ruined throne room. Always trying to keep a certain distance between himself and Spencer. He can leap many times higher and further than Spencer and often uses this ability to keep his distance or evade Spencer’s attacks.
Alucard has many attacks, He has two weapons he regularly uses, a long sword, which deals considerable damage, and a pistol, which deals less damage but can hit from any point in the screen so long as Spencer is directly in its path. Alucard’s other attacks mirror his abilities from CastleVania: Sympony of the Night. He will often spawn powerful versions of bats or ghosts from his hand that attack Spencer and must be defeated. Alucard will also occasionally transform into a wolf, which doubles his speed and agility, but weakens his offensive and defensive stats.
When enough damage is dealt to Alucard, he will summon a giant floating sword that will hover around him and attempt to guard him from Spencer’s attacks, occasionally flying after Spencer, while Alucard continues using his weapons against Spencer. The sword is invulnerable and it is very difficult to hit Alucard with it guarding him. The best way to fight Alucard in this stage is to run away in an attempt to lure the sword away, and then try to approach Alucard before the sword can get back to him.
When defeated, Alucard will collapse onto his hands and knees and the floating sword -and any other familiars he might be using at the time- will disappear into flames.]

ALUCARD
Excellent! Your power is truly a marvel Belnades. I have no doubt that you can defeat Cruz.

Alucard stands up and rubs his back.

ALUCARD
I was unprepared for the strain. My body has grown rigid with age.

SPENCER BELNADES
I thought… I thought vampires were immortal.

ALUCARD
You forget that I am only half vampire.
My lifespan may be long, but I am not immortal.

SPENCER BELNADES
How long?

ALUCARD
I do not know, possibly thousands of years. When I first emancipated myself from my father, I attempted to live among humans. But that was not possible.
My friends, my lovers, even my sons and daughters, they all grew old and died while I stayed behind.
I could not live that life, so I decided to spend my life sleeping. For hundreds of years I would sleep, awakening only when my powers were needed to defend your world.
But despite my appearance, I could feel myself growing older, century by century.
Death will take me eventually, and reunite me with all whom I’ve lost in life. But until then, I cannot grow attached to any human.

SPENCER BELNADES
So that’s why you’re such a prick.

ALUCARD
That is correct. My callousness is a means of driving others away, to keep me from developing feelings for anyone.
I wonder why I tell you this?

SPENCER BELNADES
Maybe you just want history to remember your perspective.

Alex struggles to stand up.

ALUCARD
You may be right.
In any case, you must go. Go to the wall of shadow and smoke.

SPENCER BELNADES
Sure thing.

[Spencer retraces his path from the Castle Keep area, back to the great halls area, and from there through the Caverns area and into the Sewers area. In the Sewers area, at the lowest point in the castle currently explored, is a small square room with a doorway at the far end.
The doorway is blocked by an in impenetrable darkness that spews out black smoke.]

Spencer approaches the wall of Shadow and Smoke.

SPENCER BELNADES
Ralston? Ralston I want to talk to you.

RALSTON CRUZ (voice over)
Spencer! I’m so glad you could make it!
I’m giving you front row tickets to the end of this hellhole of a world, and the beginning of paradise, where true justice and compassion reigns supreme!
You’ll thank me when you see it.

In a flash of light, the wall of shadow and smoke disappears.

[Spencer walks through the doorway into the Catocombs area. The catacombs area appears to have the general architecture reminiscent of the Vatican City church, but everything, the columns, walls, floors, doorways, domes, and even fixtures, appears to be made out of human remnants, be it bones, whole skeletons or mummified bodies.
The catacombs area is fairly straightforward. There are a few divergences leading to items, recipes, and save points, but it is hard to get lost. The monsters in the catacombs are of almost every type in the entire game, and are among the very strongest.
Spencer eventually enters a cathedral hall with a swirling monochrome portal in the background. Ralston floats in the air in front of the portal.]

SPENCER BELNADES
Hello Ralston.

RALSTON CRUZ
What’s this? No demands of obedience? No rants about my barbarous actions? No veiled threats? That’s unlike you Spencer.

SPENCER BELNADES
There’s no use for those anymore.

RALSTON CRUZ
I was hoping to hear you say that.

Ralston floats down to the ground. He turns toward Spencer.

RALSTON CRUZ
Does that mean you’ve finally decided to give me a chance?

SPENCER BELNADES
No. It just means I’ve come here to kill you.

RALSTON CRUZ
That’s a pretty bold assertion for a Patron of Man. Or is that the syndicate member talking?

SPENCER BELNADES
Neither, it’s just necessity.

RALSTON CRUZ
I admire your devotion Spencer. Let me tell you about mine.
You quit the life of crime. My job was to put away people who would never do that, people so vicious and perverse that I don’t think they should even be called human.

SPENCER BELNADES
I know the type.

RALSTON CRUZ
Than you should know what I’m trying to accomplish!
For all the freaks and savages I put behind bars, I never made any difference in this world. There were just too damn many of them. The ones I locked up was like prick in the finger of this world’s depravity.
Well, I’m not going to take any more of that! With the power of CastleVania, and the Da
