Title: Thinking about getting a minor acting career too.

BigK - September 25, 2007 03:47 PM (GMT)
You know, screenwriting pays when you officially work for a production company, better then just selling at least, but apart from that, I also want to get a degree in acting. I'll be taking a few courses in film school, see what is needed of me, and how things will go down, maybe do some minor voice acting jobs too? I was always excellent with voices, and alone I have a gruff voice, *can make myself sound BELIEVABLY mad, sad, deranged, insane, sorrowful, monstrous, and in acting, I can make performances very believable, know how to cry on que. *It was a trick we learned in drama during WAY back in high school, I used it for acting in JC, and think I may take it to heart if I ever get to be a minor actor.*

Granted, I'm 28, I'm a realist, obviously I'm not expecting BIG parts, I'll probably start off as the guy who stands in the corner, or if voice acting gets done, start off as *Additional Voices.* Because yeah, obviously I'll need to get some starts somewhere, and when I audition for bigger parts, I'll be up against actors or voice actors probably a lot better then me. But if you're good, they'll still want you around, various, guy in corner, additional voices, see that's where you start. You at least get a start, and when you get better, and gain more interest of people, then you gain bigger parts. Probably never going to be one of the main characters, haha, but maybe some side characters if I'm lucky. Anyway, it's all starting with film school, and I won't start with this career until after screenwriting is something I will be capable of doing.

What do you think? I know I'm getting ahead of myself but I also think it's something I could be capable of doing.

If you think you are capable of doing it then do it... It doesn't sound like your getting ahead of yourself... Just go for it, judging by the plates of your car, your in a prime location to get a job...

I have to travel half across my state to even find a school for the career I want...

I think we're capable of doing almost anything. As long as you've readied yourself to do it. And it seems like you have, so go for it. :thumb:

Its a hard career to get into, there are lots of people who want to do it.

However, I think if its something you would like doing then I recommend you definatly go for it, you only live once!

I thought about taking acting up myself but honestly now I want to be a lawyer or stock broker (I am real interested in the stock market)

Yes, but I'm for real about it, and I'm much older then you, heading into film school. So I'm already familiar with the Hollywood ethics, curtousy of my agent.

I say go for it, especially if you're familiar with the ins-and-outs of Hollywood. I did some work for a company that was (an still is) working into the Hollywood market, and one of the guys who spent a summer in California spent an afternoon trying to explain the insanity that is communication and deal-making in Hollywood.

Anyway, I'm getting off-point. If you've got experience, I can't see how acting school would hurt as long as you've got the money and time. It would probably come in handy as a screenwriter, to know the game from both sides of the ball.

It does come in handy, even for screenwriting because you see what is acceptable on and off the set like you said. *Started today, so far, I know more of the OVERALL picture, but in terms of screenwriting, so far, it's nothing new yet.

I'm taking acting and F/TV60C. I seriously will have to start small roles in shows before I can be a bigger actor. But since my real acting is decent as well, I can get it down in rehersals. You start where ever your skills can start you.
