Title: Hell just froze
Description: Need to make a rant

Caldera - September 27, 2007 05:24 PM (GMT)
Yup, I'm making a rant just to see others opinions and to boast how my wednesday just sucked.

Right, as some of you guys just might know I go to the Turku University of Applied Sciences and I do so with riding 3km on a bike and then 32km on a national bus and then around 3 - 5km on a innercity bus to get to the Uni (And vice versa).

On last wednesday I left my bike leaning on a post like I do everyday and left with a bus for my 8 hour day with 4 hours of physics lab works at the end. Once I got home I noticed that my bike was nowhere to be seen and when I went closer I noticed something utterly irritating.

The bike was thrown into a trench alongside the road, so I picked it up and tried to go on my way once making sure that it was okay to do so. Only then did it hit me, the bike was wobbly almost as if the tires were punctured.

I hopped off to check what was wrong and noticed that the... metallic circle (Whatever you call it) beneath the tire was completely disfigured making it completely unridable. So I walked on home and tried to straighten it out and succeeded more or less.

It is still wobbly, but not impossibly so (Gonna need to change the rear wheel soon, very soon) and I also lost my back brakes in the process. This means that I only have front brakes on use which won't cut it if I need to slow down fast.

Thank you so much for braking my bike. *sighs* -_-

Regards,
Caldera

Dear Jebus!

That sucks, did you try reporting it as vandalism? Or something?

How much would a new bike cost? Or a better way of transport from your place to the Turku place?

Thought about it while I was still on hot blood. But honestly there's not much they can do about it really. It's just how annoying that is.

It's not like I can't live with it. It's already more or less solved and no, I'm not getting a new bike either. I've had that very same one for.... about 12 years now and it's a good and a reliable bike (Never had to even change tires even, not once, it's still running on the originals!!).

No way on earth am I going to get a car either, I simply can't afford it. Owning a car here costs.... helicopters. Just getting a license costs fortunes, then there's the car itself, it doesn't run for free either and then there's still the maintances and the tires are costly things as well, not to mention the taxes. Thanks, but no thanks... I'll stick to a bus, it costs me just 80 euros a month and that's it, no other expenses and no need to worry about maintances either.

I just have to be more careful where I put my bike from here on. That's all.

Caldera

That freakin' sucks... Nobody should fuck with another persons mode of transportation...

What about chaining it in the view of a CCTV cam or something? Like in front of certain shops (With the shopkeeper's permission, maybe written)

Just a thought.

That sucks real bad man, but also reminds me of my child hood. We once had a bike with no brakes, so we pretty much had to stop is Flintstones style. :o . Next time put a touch sensitive bomb on your bike so the next time someone moves it will be there last.

Unnecessary and excessive. I have the situation quite well under control.

I can use a more secure place (Read public) to keep my bike at. No way they'd do anything to it there. So all I need to do is to change the wheel and I do have a spare wheel too.

That kinda reminds me when I tried that when I was just a little Son of a bitch... I was wearing Sandals when I tried that and the gravel in my area is real jaged... So I lost a few toenails trying to stop... Hurt like a bitch..

So my advice to you is to always wear shoes when attempting this...
Sandals=Pain...

In universities, always be wary when using bikes. They will be stolen or destroyed. My policy for life honestly.

Sorry to hear bout the bike kiddo.

abc123 - September 27, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
At least its better than getting it stolen. My mountain bike was, but I had it insured, and I am going to use the money to get a PS3, but thats only covered half the amount. Im so glad my bike was stolen.

Solid Snake8 - September 27, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
Buying a bike lock is excessive you say? Yet you're upset about your bike being thrown into a trench and messed up. There are real assholes in this world with no regard for your belongings. Sure they could still mess it up if it was locked up to something, but I think it's an improvement that getting it thrown into a trench.. That's just my 2 cents.

Caldera - September 28, 2007 04:35 PM (GMT)
BigK: It wasn't at the university. I don't ride 38 - 39 km to get myself there. Just the starting/last 3 km. So it wasn't at the university yards.

Although for your knowledge, it would have been VERY safe at the university though. You see, it's not too big of a place, nor is it in any infamous place of a city, or anything. That place is PACKED with bikes and there's constantly people coming in, out and about, no way anyone would mess with other peoples bikes there.

@SS8: I'm not going to respond at all if you ain't even going to bother to read what I had said previously. The bike has and was locked.

Caldera
