Title: Ideas for MGS3?
Description: Snake Eater or Subsistance

Malunis_T - October 2, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
Some ideas have been going around in my head lately, these are some concepts for things in the game I thought up.

CAMOUFLAGE

Hornet Bee
Appearance: The Pain's actual camo. Minus the mask.
Effect: Attracts hornets to you to protect you completely. Only does this when they are in the area.
Effect 2: Solders don't always attack because of how you look like them.
Drawback: Small chance of getting stung while wearing the bees.
How To Obtain: Defeat The Pain by only using the Torch (get onto his platform somehow to attack him).

Spider
Appearance: The Fear's camo.
Effect: Invisibility. Only works in green areas like the forest.
Effect 2: Allows you to climb faster and jump farther. Crawling looks spider-like.
Drawback: Drains Stamina.
How To Obtain: Defeat The Fear by only using food poisoning.

Moss
Appearance: The End's actual camo.
Effect: 100% Stealth in forests.
Effect 2: Comes with a pair of headphones which automatically attach. They work like the Directional Mic, but you only need to go to First Person View to use them. They slowly drain your battery when you use them.
Drawback: Doesn't work outside of forests.
How To Obtain: Same way you get the normal version. Hold up The End.

Fire Suit
Appearance: The Fury's astronaut suit, minus the helmet.
Effect: Rare chance of burn on your body, without helmet.
Drawback: Slows you down a bit, you require use of the jetpack to jump off a cliff safely. Camo index is low since it doesn't blend in with much, other than dark areas.
Drawback 2: Can only use flamethrower.
How To Obtain: Defeat The Fury by only using the knife to cut up his suit.
---
Fire Helmet
Appearance: The Fury's helmet, goes with the astronaut suit.
Effect: Small chance of burn on your face.
Effect 2: Combined with the astronaut suit, complete protection from any kind of burn.
Drawback: First Person View is hard to see through.
How To Obtain: Same as above.

Phantom
Appearance: The Sorrow's outfit.
Effect: Makes you transparent; Either scares enemies into thinking you're a ghost, or allows you to go completely unnoticed (with inability to attack or use weapons).
Effect 2: Makes The Boss hesitant to attack you during the final battle.
Drawback: Drains Stamina.
How To Obtain: Same way as getting the Spirit camo; Finishing the battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
WEAPONRY

Tommy Gun (Tommy)
Appearance: The Pain's gun.
Type: Machine gun.
Ammo: 80.
Effect: Gives great damage.
Drawback: Bad aim, like Patriot.
How To Obtain: Defeat The Pain using the Survival Knife.

Crossbow (Bow)
Appearance: The Fear's crossbow.
Type: Dart shooter.
Ammo: 20.
Effect: Poisons enemy. They will be weaker, and have bad aim, until they finally just pass out and die.
Drawback: Takes a while to reload.
How To Obtain: Defeat The Fear with the EZ Gun.

(The End's gun)
Appearance: The End's rifle.
Type: Sniper rifle.
Ammo: ??
Effect: Best sniper system in the game, coming with three zoom settings.
Drawback: Takes a while to reload after each shot.
How To Obtain: Hold up The End twice.

Flamethrower
Appearance: The Fury's flamethrower.
Type: Flamethrower. (Works like the Rocket Launcher)
Ammo: 30.
Effect: Shoots a wave of fire which kills.
Drawback: Ammo does not exist, can only be used up once through the game.
Drawback 2: Attracts attention VERY easily.
How To Obtain: Shoot it from The Fury's hands during battle.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ITEMS

Monkey
Appearance: An Ape Escape monkey.
Type: Distraction.
Ammo: 5.
Effect: Walks around randomly. It can distract guards while you sneak around.
Drawback: Can only take up to 7 shots before exploding.
How To Obtain: Complete the Monkey/Snake levels with top high scores.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FEATURES

Level Select
Type: Select any part of the game to start playing at. Continues on until said area is cleared. Example; Start at where you mean Granin, end when you get to his office. Or start when you have been captured and throw into the prison cell (automatic health reduction from the torture), and end before The Sorrow battle. This is connected to the status of your gameplay, so any camo/weaponry you have by default (including stuff unlocked when you beat the game or find them), will be in your inventory.
Drawback: No cutscenes (though not important).
How To Obtained: Unlocks the levels as you progress in the game.

Anyone have anything they'd like to add? ^^

some good ideas, but you can already get the ends rifle, the mosin-nagant its a sniper rifle that uses tranq rounds, its an old bolt action rifle with a 5 shot cartridge.

it was used by the russian army, up until ww2

Hm, didn't know that much about it. I know of the Mosin Nagant, I actually used to have it in the game up until it somehow disappeared... Anyway, I guess that is good, I was just trying to give it a bit of a boost.

Thinking about it, level select would be possible if you just save with a different slot each time. But that uses up Memory Card space.. :/
Another concept I thought of would be to create your own area to explore, based on other parts of the game. You could use certain areas as a base(Rassvet warehouse grounds, Ocelot unit solders, etc.) Might be a little much, though.

How the hell would you defeat the pain useing your knife???
You can't get near him!!

Helikaon - October 2, 2007 07:58 AM (GMT)
Whenever he comes down from a tree to eat, sneak up on him.

Malunis_T - October 3, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
Indeed, Helikaon.
Just out of curiosity, I attempted to attack The Pain using my listed technique; turns out the path to that passage which lets you get to his platform is blocked.

As for jonhou, the listed 'How to Obtain' things were just kind of made up at random, some may be possible to attempt, some may not be(as I proved in what I said in this post about The Pain).

EDIT: I also just tried the thing with The Fury, didn't expect it to be possible to go near him ;P No unlockables though, darn.

The Moss Camo with the attached headphones acting like the Directional Microphone sounds like a pretty wicked idea. Would be so much easier to pin point out things. If it was possible, I probs would have it on the whole time.

Level select would be cool, like Duel Mode, can select an area and just practice speed runs/killings. Get as high points as you can for that particular level. A bit like the Metal Gear Ac!d level select.

He said The Pain, not The Fear  I get the names of the two mixed up at times myself.

I would like to see you climb up and get close to the pain.. Oh wait.. its literaly impossible

I just wish to see EVA going through the Les enfant terribles project at the end of MGS3, like a flash of the future?

Sn4ke23 - March 12, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
I think they should've let you throw animals or food at your enemies.

I know for sure that I can throw a ration at the GRU guard outside the jail cell. I had to cuz it was necessary and fun to watch. Though that is because I was required to by the game. If you told me to regularly whip stuff at enemies, then I wouldn't understand how to, except for grenades.

What's there to forgive? I didn't hurt anybody's feelings, did I?

EDIT: now this is the way to win with survival knife: if you know how you go get the hornet camo after defeating the pain with stamina drain I think that's the way you get near him
