Title: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Description: Official Chat Topic.

Holy shit. This game has defanitely exceeded my expectations. The "All Ghillied Up" mission is the single most amazing FPS experience I have ever played...

Never has being a sniper sneaking deep behind enemy lines been so riviting... literally sneaking through platoons of soldiers and tanks... and with your spotter constantly warning you and updating you with situational awareness... its a level you just HAVE to play.

And thats only the first half of the mission! Then theres the assassination in where you have to snipe using indicators telling you the wind speed and direction and the gravity of the bullet and the coriolis effect... (though technically you can just wait till the spotter tells you when the wind has died...) and then the absolutely thrilling escape where your spotter gets wounded halfway through and you have to carry him the rest of the way and putting him down in strategic locations to snipe when enemies are near... all through the ruins of a enemy infested Chernobyl!

God damn... now THAT, gentlemen, is what gaming is all about.

Fuckin' A, man.

Out tomorow over here, can't wait

Finally a shooter that isn't set in the far future or WW2...

Can't wait to fire it up on my PS3, kill some Russians and head online.

Liquidus_Snake - November 8, 2007 09:33 AM (GMT)
weernt sure at first about the change to modern combat, but from what ive seen.........OMFG!!! it looks killer!!

ive seen tht level that BigK was talking about in the microsoft E3 press conference i think.....and damn i cant wait to get my hands on it!!

ove heard the single player is short clocking in at about 5 hours, but the online is amazing from what ive heard......maybe ill get this for crimbo, if i dont get GH3 before that, that is

Johnyman - November 8, 2007 11:35 AM (GMT)
I played through the demo, and I was very impressed. Planning to get it soon, its definately worth AT LEAST a look. Ive heard the campaign is short, but it more than makes up for it with its amazing multilpayer. But I have to admit Crysis will win this year's Best FPS,but Modern Warfare is a great follow up.

Solid Snake The Great - November 8, 2007 04:46 PM (GMT)
My dad will get it for me on PS3 tomorrow. Can't wait for it. GAME sent me a Preview DVD, and I gotta say I'm impressed. The new features look sweet. Haven't played a demo for it unfortunately, but what with it coming out tomorrow there is no point. I'll see some of you guys online.

Yeah, that conference demo was only a small fraction of the level. Your literally sneaking past soldiers less than 3 feet away from you.

Solidus - November 8, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
Hope to get this tomorrow. Should finish Timeshift tonight, so I can trade that in for it.

Been playing it for a few hours now and meh. Call of Duty: United Offensive is still the best in the series.

Yackemflaber - November 9, 2007 03:09 AM (GMT)
Instead of doing a traditional rating, Ill tell you guys how my personal experience has been.

my SINGLE PLAYER experiance
I just finished the single player and I must say it was better than I expected. There were many times where I actually felt myself wanting to yell "NO! GET UP DAMNIT! GET ON YOUR FEET! DON'T DIE ON ME!" and stuff like that.
Also after the credits there's a cool extra mission that has nothing to do with the plot but is just uber cool. I'll probably go looking for guides now to help me find all that secret stuff pretty soon so I can get all the "cheats". Single player was basically freaking awesome on it's own.

PS: this is the first PS3 game I've beaten

my MULTIPLAYER experiance
I pwned everyone in CoD1 for my computer right? But then I stopped playing for a while, I played CoD3 at a friends house when that came out and I was a little rusty but still kicking ass in the franchise, I didn't actually want CoD3 and I finally got CoD2 a few days ago just to tide me over before CoD4
Despite it being a new game and on a console, I still fucking rape everyone in CoD4. For some reason (probably cuz I played CoD1 so much for so long) the entire Call of Duty franchise is the one place where I completely rape my competition. I was on the top of my team's ladder for all but about 3 of the matches I played so far, I was getting killing streaks like crazy (the best example being a 20 kill streak within my first life of the match) and ultimately beating out all the jerks with higher ranks than me.

YACK'S RATING:
***** out of *****

Helikaon - November 9, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
Finally got it, after roughly a year of waiting...

Currently on All Ghillied Up, highlights so far:
  • AC130 gunner
  • SPOILERS>Man that nuclear explosion shit me up, even after seeing it in trailers nothing prepared me for seeing it in full 1080 HD <SPOILERS
Haven't tried multiplayer yet.

M-Snake - November 9, 2007 08:48 PM (GMT)
I play the game on PS3 it is great game and i think it is the best military game in PS3 B)

Yackemflaber - November 10, 2007 03:26 AM (GMT)
if any of you guys find an online guide to finding all the hidden intel or whatever, PLEASE tell me because I wanna earn all those cheats but I suck at finding hidden stuff.

iAn - November 10, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
They are laptop computers.

Just keep an eye out for them.

I found my first one by mistake.

Solid Snake The Great - November 10, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
I am loving this game. We NEED to get some online matches going sometime. I can't remember what mission I'm on, since I'm still buzzing from my online experience. Although, I heard that the single player is kind of short. Can anyone clarify that for me?

5 hours if your a good player, took me around 5.5 hours on Recruit.

But those five were the best straight five hours I've ever had with a FPS.

The online is amazing, for some reason I couldn't get on for a while last night though, apparently the IW servers crashed or something.

Register - November 10, 2007 04:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah, SP is rather short. Let me see on XFire how long it took on Impossible.

EDIT: Four hours.

If someone wants to meet me online it's Rutkowski I go by, sometimes [FO] Rutkowski or just Rutkowski the Duck, depending on my mood. I play mostly at ranked server, rank is 14 or something like that so far.

EDIT2: And yes, the servers were wonky. There's a way to circumvent that however. If you can't connect, then just go into Server Info for the game ya wanna join and then write "connect <ip goes here>" without the "'s and it'll usually work, not always though.

Well, right now I'm on the mission All Ghillied Up. I'm right at the end, but keep getting killed by that small army. Grr. I nearly got killed getting to the extraction point. And multiple times before that. Still, it's an amazing game. Anyone want to play online? My PSN is JDT1.

you and I shall play sometime, are you good online? (I shouldn't need to tell you how I am if you've already read my posts)

Solid Snake The Great - November 10, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
In a word, no. And yeah, from what I hear, you're amazing. So yeah, we can play sometime. :)

wertwhile - November 10, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
I bought the game the day it came out i love the game the graphics and the little extra challenged they added on to it from the previous games.
The A.I is very impressive also.

Liquidus_Snake - November 10, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
just watched On the spot on the gamespot website and they preview one of the levels on the ship where your part of the SAS....

and wow the ending is so immense.....ive never seen anything like that on a FPS, that alone has presueded me to buy it....and the online seems suburb aswell which is a plus

krypton_ls - November 10, 2007 07:41 PM (GMT)
Just finished playing this through for the first time earlier on the PS3... the story is great, the graphics are great and I just love it. :)

Hope to play online too, so will give that a go in the next day or two, with any luck.

sadistic_greyfox - November 11, 2007 05:51 AM (GMT)
Bought the game earlier today and damn, it's Intense like all hell. I haven't beat the game yest but the Tanker Mission was fucking insane. The online is great too, real fast paced action going on. I'm trying to take my time with the story since I heard it's only about 6-8 hours long,

yeah you definately can't blow-off the single player because it's incredibly engaging and short enough to hold your attention

sadistic_greyfox - November 11, 2007 05:57 AM (GMT)
Ohh yeah, it's Definitely engaging and really F'ing challenging even on normal difficulty, thank God I didn't choose the Recommended Hardened option when I started up  . I've only been up to Act 1, close to completion, and when I play it I can't help but feel like I'm part of an MGS PMC group.

Thought it was funny when they were driving the president around and someone peaks out the dumpster XD.

I didn't notice that dude...
Probably because I was too engaged in amazement over the fact that the second character I was playing as was going to DIE in his first scene.
and yeah, the music really kind of helps that MGS feeling you described too because there are a few moments where it almost sounds like Harry Gregson Williams just stole music right from MGS instead of making new stuff.

So, what's yer Ranks online so far? I'm at 28 aka First Lieutenant and just recieved my AKS-74 which I will use as my midrange weapon. Skorpion is my shortrange and AKM is my longrange.

Ghost Sniper - November 11, 2007 06:51 AM (GMT)
My God, I died about 10 times in the Bog level....

abc123 - November 11, 2007 09:19 AM (GMT)
95% on Metacritic. Amazing.

Solid Snake The Great - November 11, 2007 12:26 PM (GMT)
Oh damn. I'm on the mission All In. How many enemies are there on this level?!? They just keep coming and coming! Right now I have to get to the Launch Silo in the alloted eleven minutes, but I keep dying. The online is fantastic too. I'm on rank 6.

Remember, the game is a heavily scripted. If a seemingly infinite amount of troops seems to arrive, rush them to trigger the invisible tripwire that prevents them from respawning.

Does it matter?

Even though the single player will only take the average gamer 4-6 hours to complete, it doesn't ruin it one bit knowing that it's scripted of course.... unless it were based on MGS4.

Speaking of that - the gameplay trailer is up on the PS store, a full 15 mins of HD footage. :)

Gunnery Sergeant II (17, I think), fully maxed out an M4, thinking of moving back to the M16 or maybe move onto SMG weapons.

Gonna attempt a different difficulty today.

Oh no, I'm a huge fan of the heavy scripting in certain games(the being forced to rush thing nonwithstanding, kinda ruin the immersion). There's a place for heavy scripting, such as CoD and Max Payne, and there's a place for AI scripting, such as Bioshock and System Shock 2.

I'm at 19 but I haven't been able to play for a few days now, although today I'm going to go on a spree until I decide homework would be a good idea ^_^

yeah I learned that the hard way, I kept shooting instead of heading for the objectives

Solid Snake The Great - November 11, 2007 05:36 PM (GMT)
I've moved up to level eleven (Corporal?) and I'm slowly getting better. Last Stand is awesome. Sometimes people forget to kill me, and I get a quick headshot in. And Headquarters mode is awesome. Everybody crammed into one room shooting at each other and throwing grenades is so..... awesome. ^_^

Register - November 11, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
You think Last Stand is good? Just wait until you get Martyrdom. =)

I'm at 31 now I think, Captain I or II it was called. I've maxed AKM since long and now I'm working on maxing AKS-74u just for the sake of it. After that, I'll max the P90 as soon as I get it.

Shit, I just might max the MP44 just for the sake of it. I used to own with that rifle in CoD:UO.

Solid Snake The Great - November 11, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
You have to get level 40 to unlock the P90. I'm only on level 13 now, so I've got a long way to go before I unlock the P90.

Played lots of online today. Rakced up quite a few kills and headshots using the mounted guns. Only problem is, you can't crouch, and you're a sitting target. But the power of the gun makes up for that easily.

La Li Lu Le Lo - November 11, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)
I bought the game, but my brother sold it without my permission. I didn't get a chance to try it. Now I'm waiting on another copy.

Who needs the P90 when you can use the M4 :P

Played quite a bit today, another level up. But it's been hard to get online...
