Ray Stevenson is the Punisher

And an interview with director Lexi Alexander (Green Street/Hooligans)

An interview with Ray Stevenson

As a nearly lifelong Punisher fan I cannot tell you how damn excited I am for this movie, I have no words to describe how I feel about that picture, the only word (and it's a word I hate) I can use is: awesome

What the hell happened to Thomas Jane? He was a damn good Punisher IMO.

Helikaon - December 7, 2007 11:39 PM (GMT)
He wanted more money, Lionsgate said no, he walked.

And no he wasn't, he made a decent Frank Castle circa Welcome Back, Frank, but not a good Punisher. He only played The Punisher in the last 10 minuites of the film (the assault on the club). But I suppose thats because the plot was essentially Welcome Back, Frank but not as good.

Haha, do I even dare to get your opinion of Dolph Lundgren back in '89?

You a fan of the comics then, Heli?

Yup, have been nearly all my life, The Punisher: Circle of Blood #1 was the first comic I ever read

I only know of The Punisher through the first film, which I found to be pretty damn good.

I believe that was the first film..... is this the second, I guess?

Solid Snake8 - December 13, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
Ha, I loved the first movie. I thought Thomas Jane did a great job, but I can't really judge how great he was at being The Punisher, seeing as I've never read those comics.

solidfox - December 13, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
Every time I see that damn picture I think of....Steven Seagal...

BigK - December 13, 2007 06:19 AM (GMT)
He looks like a mix of Steven Segal and Carlos Mencia, but NOT 400 lbs.

I think this one should be good. The first one wasn't half bad, action lagged out, but I think it can be good.

solidfox - December 13, 2007 07:02 AM (GMT)
A mix of those two would be the end as we know it...I'd die of annoyance.

Then pray to God that it isn't the case then kiddo.

I can't see any resemblance to Segal, maybe Segal's forehead from the days of Under Siege and err Under Siege 2. Bear in mind that that is an early production image in fact I think they are still filming, also his face is obscured by that meaty M4 he is holding.

War Zone is a new film, not connected to Hensleigh and Janes Punisher from 2005, WZ is more rooted in the hardcore Punisher comics than the 2005 film is, which used Garth Ennis' Welcome Back, Frank as a basis for it's plot (alot of the dialog and scenes were torn straight from that series, for example The Russian) which was released in 2000, WZ uses the MAX series as it's basis, the MAX range is Marvels strictly adults only range.

Although WZ is the third Hollywood sponsored Punisher film, the first was a terrible effort in 1989 (there wasn't even a skull for fucks sake!), then there was the awesome 2005 version (never said I don't like the film, only Jane's performance) and now theres War Zone, which is being partly financed by the recently established Marvel Productions and influenced by the MAX Punisher series by Garth Ennis.

There was also a low budget indie film last year, but it's not very good.
