Title: Live Action DBZ

Will it tank? Its been known for a while, but I was shocked to see that there will be some big named actors in it...Fight scenes are expected to be like the last fight scene in the Matrix...with the flying and what not...

Think it will be decent?

Muikuli - December 23, 2007 08:33 PM (GMT)
Oh please no... And no, it won't be decent

jc55 - December 23, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
Dude I really hope so, DBZ was quality I used to love watching it. But I'm a little concerned about the potential cheesiness of it. The past few years we've had some great classics turned into films and they've come out alright. Spiderman, one or two of the Batmans were good, but then things start to head down the crapper. I mean Hellboy was ok-ish so too was Hulk, but then we've got Fantastic four, Thunderbirds, Superman etc, and they've sucked gooch from what I've heard and read (IMO - with respect to the originals). But I hope it does well. I think it'll be OK seen as DBZ ain't your run of the mill animation (what with the powering up and screaming).

:ph43r:

Muikuli - December 23, 2007 08:50 PM (GMT)
I'm 99% sure it will be terrible. The other changes are:
1) With 0,5% possibility it will be bad
2) With 0,4% possibility it will be half-decent
3)With 0,09% possibility it will be ok
4)With 0,01% possibility it will be good or above

Roy Campbell - December 23, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
This will be terrible. It's never ever going to work, in fact its crazy just thinking about it. Have they even seen an episode of DBZ? As if they are going to get that into Live Action.

jc55 - December 23, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
Well, 0.4% is good enough for me. I am putting 99.6% of my hopes on some pretty unbelievable special effects (after all Transformers was pretty good in that department). But I will admit there is an underlying sense of duffness about it all.

doubleo sigint - December 23, 2007 11:10 PM (GMT)
I thought they already scrapped this idea? DBZ movie?! what about the hair?! WHAT ABOUT THE HAIR???!!! lol.

JCC - December 23, 2007 11:27 PM (GMT)
James Marsters is in it.

That saves it from sucking completely, his bits will be good.

doubleo sigint - December 24, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
How can they make that guy from Buffy Piccolo?
C'mon, everyone knows Piccolo was ment to be a black man.
I heard rumours of Wesley Snipes or that guy from Stargate being Piccolo but not Spike!.
Have you guys heard Piccolo's voice? it's deep much deeper than Spike from buffy.
Why do you think they got James Earl Jones to voice Darth Vader even though Darth Vader's white?.
I ain't trying to be racist lets not let skin colour be the reason this topic gets locked but I honestly feel that a black actor with a deep voice, actually scrach that anyone with a deep voice would make Piccolo work. JCC how can you say the film will be saved cos of Spike if anything he'll ruin it.

black king - December 24, 2007 12:02 AM (GMT)
just out of curisoity where the heck is Krillian?! he's not in the cast :o

^^ Goku as he walks to "High School"....The plot takes place before the whole "Super Sayain" thing so they don't spend 2 hours powering up...and don't have to worry about the hair thing. But Goku NEVER went to school...his only education came from his gandpa and thats where is innocence came from...they've changed the plot 180 degrees.

OcelotSnake - December 25, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
The anime is shit. The live action movie will be shitter.

Is Hollywood not satisfied enough with ruining video game saga's that it has to move on to anime like DBZ and (decent anime like) Ghost in the Shell.

doubleo sigint - December 26, 2007 12:45 AM (GMT)
Yes its true Goku never went to school as a 12 year old boy but maybe as a teenager he did, did he? i'm not sure i only watched the first 2 seasons of Dragonball.
God this movie looks cheesy already, i'm only gonna watch it for the action scenes the story has already been raped, fucked and maimed like a 50 year old porn star. Goku going to school, how gay and corny is that going to look if he never went in the anime and where the fuck is Krillen? who's this fake ass mexican guy? I hate Hollywood, they always make these movies for people who don't know jack shit about the real story, how do they know the audience wont like it if they stay loyal to the anime. I'm not just talking DBZ i mean for all movie adaptations.

Gatsby - December 26, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
I don't have a good feeling about this movie at all, but I'll reserve judgement until I watch it.

The film will be partially saved by Marsters because he is a consistently brilliant actor, and he can play a variety of roles. Since he's already shown that he does a more convincing English accent than many of my countrymen, I'm sure he can throw his voice a little.

As for the black argument, have you ever seen the 1991 film adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing?

Me: Hello Denzel Washington! Wait a second, Mr Washington, black people wouldn't have been in a respected position at the time of this play, surely?

Denzel: That is indeed correct, little child. But I was the best thing about the whole damn movie, and it just shows that film directors, producers and screenwriters have a little bit of slack when it comes to casting.

Me: Gee, thanks Mr Washington! Now I'll go and tell all of my friends about what I've learnt from you!

Denzel: Good one, little child. And remember: a film director can cast whoever the fuck he wants.

Me: Sure thing, Denzel! Bye!

Denzel: Godspeed, little one.

Between this and Torchwood I think he's sucessfully lowered the bar since his Buffy glory days.

The guy has to make a living.

Trust me, if there is one guy that you can count on in this movie to be entertaining, it's James Marsters. You can give him the worst script in the world, he will make it magical.

As for the rest, fuck them, this movie will suck every moment that Marsters isn't on the screen, I can almost guarantee it. I'll see it, partly for Marsters, and partly just to laugh at it.

Denzel is a different case, your saying because of his skin colour he should not play that position in the movie. What i was trying to say was that Marsters is not grouchy, his voice is not deep enough and i thought piccolo had more characteristics of a black actor like Wesley Snipes or that hench guy from stargate SG1. I mean HONESTLY who do you think would do better job as Piccolo, Wesley Snipes or Marsters? just think of BLADE and this question is not just for you JCC anyone is free to give there opinion.

Marsters.

I've seen Blade.

Wesley Snipes almost sent me to sleep in that movie.

You haven't seen much of Buffy or the last season of Angel, have you? Or even Smallville, even though I've never seen much of it, Marsters can play a villain, and he can play a villain well.

Wesley Snipes, on the other hand, just plays a monosyllabic black guy with a sword. The colour of his skin doesn't make him better for the role in any way, he just isn't as good of an actor. And if you want to talk about gruff voices, the guy who probably has the gruffest voice in the world, Tom Waits, is white. The guy who does the cinema voiceovers? White. I wish people wouldn't make things about race all the time, Jesus. He is a phenomenal actor, and he will hold up his end of the movie.

WHiTeFaLCoN - January 2, 2008 11:31 AM (GMT)
Is this actually true? Rumours of a live action DBZ have been going round for ages, and they have all been proven to be a load of horses willies.

jc55 - January 2, 2008 11:36 AM (GMT)
I was wondering that too. It's almost as though I wanted it to be in the pipeline but never actually made (just in case they fluffed it).

WHiTeFaLCoN - January 2, 2008 11:38 AM (GMT)
I've enquired on imdb.com, this is the real thing. It'll be based on the old Dragonball series, and the plot looks faithful to the series. This is my reaction to the news.

FUCK YEAH!!!

jc55 - January 2, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
Woo, this just gets juicier and juicier.

Bring it on fellas, just don't mess it up.

Arguably, the older stuff was better.

WHiTeFaLCoN - January 2, 2008 11:50 AM (GMT)
I saw DBZ before I saw Dragonball. I wasn't a fan of the early Dragonball, but I loved it when Piccolo came in. The last saga was brilliant.

If it does well, they could do the Saiyan Saga as a sequel.

jc55 - January 2, 2008 11:53 AM (GMT)
Oh yes definitely. They have more than enough material to go beyond one movie release. But it is perhaps worth mentioning that the story has gotten a wee bit repetitive towards the latter stages of the entire saga.

WHiTeFaLCoN - January 2, 2008 12:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah, after the Frieza saga it got a bit stupid.

Goku: Oh no, a new villian even stronger than the last one!
Vegeta: Don't worry Kakarot, I'm the strongest ever! I'll kill it!
(He fights, gets his ass kicked)
Vegeta: What? But I'm the prince of all saiyans!
Goku: Oh no, everyone's dead except me! The fate of the world is on my shoulders!
Villian: Ha ha! Now I will beat you all with a ludicrous and predictable transformation! (transforms)
Goku: Oh no! He's too strong!
(Villain kicks Goku's ass, toys with him instead of being smart and killing him)
Villian: Now you will die!
Goku: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!
(Beckons Super Saiyan 5
Villian: What? Impossible!
(Goku kicks Villians ass)
Vegeta: What? How can that common low class clown surpass me in strength?
Goku: Let's finish this!
Villain: Ha ha! But I have been holding back on you!
(Transforms again, they fight, Goku wins using a spirit bomb. The end).

Next saga:

Goku: Oh no, a new villian even stronger than the last one!

Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi? I can actually see that.

Yes! Lucy Liu as that woman the main character is married to.

... A live-action DBZ movie has already been made. Google stills of the movie for a good laugh.

No Krillin, since Goku magicly went to High School this time around. His friend / ally is the black guy from Ghost Busters...guess they felt they had to throw a black guy in there.

My scepticism on this movie is abundantly high but the likes of stephen chow as the producer gives me an ounce of hope.
