Haven't found this discussed anywhere. Whats the link between the two? Is it just kind of a STAR WARS style "easter egg" joke? With his inclusion in Portable Ops plus, I'm led to believe that their is more to it then that.

Theres no link, it's Kojima's "sense of humour" again. It's a "Star Wars style" easter egg poking fun at Raiden, by having Big Boss kill a lookalike.

Heli, the joke isn't that Big Boss kills him, it's that he is the lover of Colonel Volgin- Raikov's entire being is basically a gay-joke at Raiden's expense. Raikov's name means 'Thunderbolt's Bitch' doesn't it?

Unless of course Big Boss kills him in PO. Which I haven't played. So you better not have spoiled it.

'Roy' Change his codename from Snake to Raiden.
He asks why, but i can't remeber him telling you (if he does at all)

If ocelot was in conrol of the AI, he could of named him after Raikov cause hes a relative or a look-alike cause he was old enough to know both :wacko:

Raikov is just a joke character that Kojima made up like Helikaon said.

For guys, their is no such thing as Bisexuality. You like other men; your gay... period, even if you also like girls.

But seriously, yeah I think that this is a poor joke on Kojimas part. And please don't anybody respond with "well that's just japanese culture; they think Raiden's gayness is Hilarious". If that's the case the joke comes with the expense of tainting the series for me. It's just not necessary.

Raiden looks a little gay in MGS2, MGS2S but he and Raikov aren't related.
They just needed a gay partner for Volgin and they thought of Raikov, but they could not have a gay familiy member.(In Raiden's family)
And don't ask me why they couldn't do it ask Hideo Kojima.

You should probably know that what you just said about Raiden not having gay relatives makes no sense, at all.

Seriously, just because Raiden slept with Rose doesn't mean he couldn't have had a gay or bisexual uncle or whatever. Whether your gay or straight isn't really predetermined by your bloodline - there is actually a nurture aspect to it all.

Still, I'm not saying that Raikov and Raiden are related, but just generally pointing out how wrong are you regarding gay relatives.

it was used as joke, due to the fact that raiden was created then adapted to womens likes of a man, kojima has twisted that around. the fact that raiden could have had gay relatives is out of the question.If Raikov was indeed related to Raiden, then if you killed him it would have said "time paradox", showing that you have interfered with one of the main character in MGS2. And, yes, colonel volgin is bisexual, or whatever, and being gay isnt how you are raised or treated, though it could influence it, it is something ot do with hormones, and howw your body adapts or treats these, thats why most people realize they are gay during teenage years....i think.

Not necessarily, Raikov could have a sister or brother that we don't know about, which means Raiden could be a decendent, or Raikov could of already impregnated someone we dont know about before MGS3.

i personally dont think raiden and raikov are related, all that squeezing of the balls volgin did to Raikov must have made him infertile

I think it's a funny joke, your also singling out Westerns. I thought it was a hilarious joke on Kojima's part. To make a Raiden look-a-like, put a different name and make him a fag. I think Kojima also wanted the player to have the chance at revenge on Raiden for taking the lead role on MGS2. So I say GTMTSYA & Heli are both right.

I dont think there is any link between Raiden and Raikov except for the joke point of it. I really dont see the point of even bringing up Raikov again. It just kojimas way of saying, yeah, sorry about Raiden, I made him a little gay.

In one of the trailers I saw when it showed Raiden as the new ninja it said, "Who's Ghey now." The play on words there being Grey Fox Ninja, and Gay. Meaning Raiden is the new ninja, so now how gay is he. :fox:

I'm pretty sure that, as many others have already said, there's no connection/relation between Raikov and Raiden other than the joke aspect.

Raikov's middle name is Raidenovich, or something very close to that, and when you steal Raikov's clothes and stuff him in the locker in MGS3 there's a poster of Raiden in the locker. So obviously it's more of a joke than anything.

REally guys! Raikov's name is Raidenovich Raikov, Meaning he is Raidens Grandfather!!!!!!

I dont think the "ghey" had anything to do with Gray Fox, dude...The "instant messenger-ish" spelling was directed towards gay internet douchebags who called Raiden gay in the first place.
