orionx103 - January 2, 2008 09:04 PM (GMT)
Sonic 2... "The only really good one?" Oh, have you forgot?

Yeah, sometime after Sonic 2 came out, they made the Sonic and Knuckles game with the cartridge that could interlock with other cartridges. That way you could play the other Sonic games with Knuckles, which, as I recall, made them all about 50% cooler.

monkeymaguire - January 2, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)
haha good point, but even so.. it was still only sonic 2 that was cool with knuckles.... personally i didnt like the other games, they got all like messy looking and stuff, sonic 2 was nice, big and colourful. The only thing that sucked about it was the emerald mini levals, like running with tails down that tunnel avoiding the bombs, with an attempt at 3d-ness, i didnt like that, much prefered sonic 1's approach to collecting all the chaos emeralds, shame u couldnt get super sonic on number 1 tho! it was so much harder to get the emeralds in 2 ...... sigh...

I'm happy to see Final Fantasies floating around here. Is IX of sufficient decrepitude to be considered a classic?

One question folks, I've heard that streets of rage is available for download as some form of emulator, for the desktop. Does anyone know where to get their hands on it (website)?

Cheers,

Oh and continue with the posts folks, this makes very interesting reading.

As far as I know It is only a demo and I'm sure there are no issues with it's legitimacy.

And another classic for the heap: Tekken (3 especially), on the immortal PS1.

solidfox - January 3, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
My god reading this topic makes me think...either everybody on this site are still young teens...or I'm old as fuck. Cause there is no way whatsoever that I'll ever think of N64, Ps1, or PC games as "Old School"...

I think of Pac Man, and Qbert for those...SNES and Saga would be the latest for me...and even that would be a stretch...

At first I wasn't going to do N64 or PS1 games but I went for it but to be honest; for me old school stops being old post 1996.

Well, I'm just going by what I grew up with. I didn't get a PS1 till my mid teens, by which time talk of the PS2 was already a hot topic. As for the Sega Megadrive, I used to go round my mates house to play it all the time.

But yea, the SNES is pretty immortal in that sense.

The Passion - February 19, 2008 11:41 AM (GMT)
FF4

FF5

Unfortunatly...thats not true, since my body has already defined that for me.

But its good to see with the last few post more and more people going back to 'true' old school.

Pre Playstation era,

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the side-scrolling one)
Some Kung Fu game...

Genesis
Street Fighter 2
Mortal Kombat
VectorMan

jc55 - February 19, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
Oh yea, Earthworm Jim. That was a really feel good game for me.

On a similar note, WORMS has to be a personal favourite of mine also. I was a big fan of Hogs of War when it came out; I'm not sure if many people here have actually played it. Quite entertaining I thought.
