Title: Quick noobie question

francisl92 - January 4, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
today during an infinnity mission i used my headhunter and when i looked in first person view at an enemy soldier i could se teh rifle icon in RED what does it mean?

And what's a technical hanbook i received it at the end of the hard mode adter completing it

Solid Snake The Great - January 4, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)
I don't know what the red thing is, but I do know what the handbook is. If you use the handbook, in this case a technical handbook, it will upgrade a specific stat, in this case the technical stat. For example, C to B.

holyclericz - January 8, 2008 09:00 AM (GMT)
Are you sure it was in red? cause when i used my headhunter once i could see the technical icon and another icon i cant remember what it is. but it turns into "?" when he is too far away for me to detect his abilities

francisl92 - January 8, 2008 11:11 PM (GMT)
Erhmm ya... and the ? means your too far...

Snake Liquid - January 9, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
Actually, the RED icon means that he can upgrade to S3 in that area.

I found that out when I got a Tengu with a red assault rifle above his head. I captured him and used the assault rifle books on him and it went up to S3.

There ya go.

francisl92 - January 9, 2008 02:23 AM (GMT)
ooh well big thanks Snake Liquid and I also just found out that these guys sometimes have textbook with them when you capture them.

But is there a way to see the enemy's star and skill while your in fight with them? (Alarm ringging)

And did you recruit your tengu at the last stage? Cause during the last stage when im facing those tengu and i look with my headhunter at them i can't see the star above there head ( in first person view )

Snake Liquid - January 9, 2008 02:28 AM (GMT)
Nope. If it is in alert phase nothing will come up for them. If it is in either of the other alert phases you can see their skills, just not in Alert. That is a hassle, especially for the last level of the infinity missions.

francisl92 - January 9, 2008 02:38 AM (GMT)
Snake Liquid did you recruit your tengu in the last stage?

Snake Liquid - January 9, 2008 03:16 AM (GMT)
No. Like I said, you can't see what their specialties are when in alert mode. He was in the bonus stage on Extreme where you are at the final level of the original PO fighting Gene.

francisl92 - January 10, 2008 03:08 AM (GMT)
Is there a way to unlock the guy you use in the training mode?
He gots S everywhere plus he's a sergent

Snake Liquid - January 10, 2008 03:12 AM (GMT)
No. He is just to give you an advantage in the training missions. You can get better soldiers in the infinity missions, on occasion. I've gotten soldiers that I've upgraded to 400 HP with S and S2 in most areas.

francisl92 - January 10, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
Can we found some camo soldier during mission? Because ive just found GAKO has a prisoner in normal mode

And when will Konami release password for the NA version on MPO+?

And one another thing whta is metal gear online? is it MPO?

EDIT: How do we get local soldiers and who they are?

Snake Liquid - January 11, 2008 01:17 AM (GMT)
You can capture special characters. If you don't have them on the save, you can find them as prisoners. I found both GAKO and Elisa as prisoners when I made a second accound and did not upload all my special characters.

Don't know about the passwords.

Metal Gear Online was originally the PS2 online game for Subsistence, but it was closed. There is a Metal Gear Online coming out with MGS4 however. The online for Portable Ops is generally referred to as MPO wheras the console version is MGO.

Local soldiers can be aquired from online. They are the state soldiers. They have a picture of a state, the initials of the state and the full name of the state on the back of their uniform. You can get them by killing someone with them in RC, or sometimes you recieve them when you win matches.

francisl92 - January 11, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
But if I play in a RC match and I die, will I lose the soldier that died and what is the full word of RC

Snake Liquid - January 11, 2008 10:30 PM (GMT)
Alright, basically in RC, when you are killed, that soldier is dead. You will have the option to hit start, and then press "White Flag." Essentially, what this does is revives your soldier so that you can continue to use him, and does not let the person that killed you get that soldier, however you will lose points for this. Now if you've killed someone, and they don't white flag, but you do later, I believe that you do NOT get the soldier you killed but I'm not 100% on that.

francisl92 - January 11, 2008 11:49 PM (GMT)
Is there a game mode that wont make me loose my soldiers?

This MPo+ section of the forum is really deserted it looks like were the only one talking

And how do i white flag lol like what button do i have to hit to white flag

Ive just recruited an ocelot guy and he's hp isnt maxed yet but missions after missions it seems like hes hp is locked it wont go up further and i dont see the little tiangle in the corner and hes not a unique character

ACX174 - January 12, 2008 03:47 AM (GMT)
Yes there are games where you don't lose your soldiers. They are called "VR" games. Look for it on the right side when you are looking for what game you want to join. As the name says VR = Virtual Combat and RC = Real Combat.

Ok to WHITE FLAG you press start during an Online/Local Wifi game and in your start menu there's a White Flag option and once you do that you get all your soldiers back alive.

AND there's also Fulton, that the one which your soldier makes a recovery (Where they parachute away) so they don't die and to do that you press and hold SELECT and press "L". However as Snake Liquid said, you lose points for doing that in both RC and Virtual combat depending on what game type you are playing.

Thanks alot for the info but now im having a problem mission after mission my soldier's HP don't go up only there STM is going up and there is no littel triangle in the corner near there HP they arent maxed out they only have 5k exp

ACX174 - January 12, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Okay well that is the problem, certain characters have their own limits on HP, Stamina, Skills. Now from what I've seen, Stamina always goes up, but HP is different somehow since sometimes it can go up very little, a lot or none at all.

francisl92 - January 12, 2008 04:01 AM (GMT)
So if my STM get maxed first my HP will start raising slowly after it? Because none of the soldier in my new team i made started getting hp since i got 2 new ocelot soldier, only there STM was grewing up

EDIT: normally when one of my soldier reach 50 000/50 000 Xp both STM and HP are maxed at the same time

ACX174 - January 12, 2008 04:05 AM (GMT)
No stamina and HP are two different things, stamina always increases but HP won't always increase, it depends on the soldier's limits whether his HP a lot or a little. Once you reach 50,000 exp, All stats will stop growing.

francisl92 - January 12, 2008 04:13 PM (GMT)
Are there any use for Secret document you get in infinnity mission?

Snake Liquid - January 12, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
Yeah. If you hold up people and make them drop their equipment, there is always someone on each map that will drop a secret document. Basically, all it does is show you were the goals are. It's handy if you are in a hurry through. It just makes it so you don't have to look around.

francisl92 - January 12, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
Can we only recruit 1 soldier per acces point by the ap scan?

Yes, that's correct. One soldier per AP. However, I think you can return to the same IP after a week and get a new soldier.

francisl92 - January 12, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
ooh that cheap.....

Do you have MPO+?

Solid Snake The Great - January 12, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
Yes I do have MPO+.

francisl92 - January 15, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
when you play online do you get some experience?

And does all the rifle in the game have the same damage?

Snake Liquid - January 15, 2008 12:31 AM (GMT)
What do you mean by experience? The points that go up to 500,000 on each soldier? I'm not sure.

The gun's are not all the same. I believe the AK-47 deals out more damage than the M4.

ACX174 - January 15, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
No you don't gain any experience for your soldier when you play online.

Nope all the guns are different in certain ways. As Snake Liquid said, AK-74 does the most rifle damage (I'm pretty sure).. Just some minor things that make each gun a little different but I would recommend an M16, AK-47 or XM17 if your going to use a rifle when playing online. I haven't seen anything better with the new rifles, I don't think they are any good.

holyclericz - January 15, 2008 08:07 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure about the AK47 doing that much damage but I would suggest M16 since it has the best accuracy

francisl92 - January 15, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys..

Anyways...

So today ive found a wireless rooter signal in the cafeteria at school and the strenght of the signal was around 95% - 100% but when i tried to connect to play online and it was saying checking UDP port or something ( correct me if im wrong ) it would always failed.. the connection is really fine no password needed to acces it... but still do i have to enter a specific port to be able to play online?

And can you wear a shield and a pistol at the same time like those enemy soldier in yellow outfit

Also SNake liquid is the Special Force in your signature a clan for MPO or MPO+

And please don't lock this topic i still many others question to ask

Snake Liquid - January 15, 2008 11:22 PM (GMT)
No, you can only have a shield, or a pistol. You can't have them both at the same time, I wish you could but you can't.

The Special Forces is one of the organizations you can join on the forums. Check the org forums at the bottom of the page. It is not a clan.

Snake Liquid - January 16, 2008 02:13 AM (GMT)
Hmm, not sure. I think since it is trying to connect to your computer's modem at the time, that is why you can't connect online. You might have to set up a new connection using the hotspots. I've tried doing that, but I can never get it to work. I'm not the guy to ask about that kind of stuff.

francisl92 - January 16, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
ooh well thanks anyways for your effort Snake Liquid.....

francisl92 - January 19, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
Ok lest say in im Normal mode and the alarm is triggered and i reach the extract point for the nest stage will it still be in effect on the next stage

Major Spetnaz - January 19, 2008 04:33 PM (GMT)
Most of the time it will.

I think its random if you get lucky and its not. But there may be conditions that allow you to go to the next stage with it on.

francisl92 - January 23, 2008 02:03 AM (GMT)
Can we get some local soldier by AP scout?

And can we get some soldier in a VR match?

Snake Liquid - January 23, 2008 02:24 AM (GMT)
You won't get any soldiers in VR, period.

I'm not sure about the AP scan. I've never seen local soldiers there. I think they might be aquired online only.
