Title: Devil May Cry 4

Midna - February 7, 2008 01:23 PM (GMT)
First of all, I love this game, its got amazing graphics and an awsome fighting engine and great cutscenes and I think everyone should atleast give it a rent. So in this topic you can basically talk about whatever in the game --keeping spoilers to a minimum-- and ask questions and stuff.

I have a few of my own for owners of the game.

1. When I bought it and put it in for the first time i had to download a huuuggee game utility data file that took like literally an hour. Its taking a huge chunk of memory out of my ps3 also. Is this normal and can I delete the utility data?

2. This one bugs me a lot: When I finally started up the game, the opening video had this white line at the bottom of the screen tht keeps appearing and dsssappearing. Does this happen to any of you guys? Or is it just because im playing it on a standard tv?

Draketopher - February 7, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
Well, as far as downloading the Utility file, this was a big issue with DMC4 for ps3, you had to download it to the harddrive because blu ray dvds read a little slower that normal dvds. So yeah, it's normal but don't delete it. Delete it when your done with the game. and the white line thing had NEVER happend to me. I had some HDMI problems but i don't get why it would act weird on a standard tv.

La Li Lu Le Lo - February 7, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)
I'm playing the game on Xbox 360, so I'm not experiencing any problems so far. The only complaint I have is the screen-tearing in the jungle missions. You'll know what I'm talking about if you played Heavenly Sword. I'm currently on Mission 9. I told myself I won't play more than 4 missions a day, so that I could preserve the enjoyment a bit longer. It'll be a while till the next DMC, but it shouldn't take as long since Capcom already has an engine to work with. So far, this is my second favorite DMC game. It isn't as fun as the previous installment and the cut-scenes aren't as jaw-dropping as before, but that is probably because I've already been exposed to this stuff before. There is nothing like you're first time witnessing something amazing. Perhaps, Capcom should reinvent the series like they did with RE. I've heard so many complaints about the corny one liners, yet I love them. I should be done with Mission 12 tonight. I wish I had more time to play. My dads in so much pain that he's almost paralyzed, so I have to take care of some of his responsibilities.

onyshuma - February 8, 2008 05:11 AM (GMT)
just wondering how far everyone is.. i got the game today and made it to lvl 6

Pricey - February 8, 2008 09:41 AM (GMT)
Oh shit yeah! Its out today, I almost forgot. Hmm, i'll have to trade in.

Midna - February 8, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
I just beat credo. Goodness i hate that lost woods part!

Helikaon - February 8, 2008 01:42 PM (GMT)
Anyone fancy spoiling the story for me? It's sold out at my local and wikipedia isn't revealing anything for me.

La Li Lu Le Lo - February 8, 2008 02:34 PM (GMT)
At the rate you're going Midna, you'll pass me in no time. I finished Mission 12 last night. Tonight, I will stop at Mission 16. Did you notice the technical issues in the Lost Woods?

Midna - February 9, 2008 12:47 AM (GMT)
SPOILERS! AHHH

Halikaon, basically you play as a character named Nero, who is younger than Dante and he possesses this arm thats called the devil bringer that you can use to manipulate pretty much everything in the game. You start off the journey after dante kills the leader of your city's church group and then you are hired/asked to go after him, then eventually your girlfriend kyrie gets kidnapped (if i told you why it would spoil too much) and then everything gets screwed up as you try to find out which side is the good side. You end up getting entangled with dante and a number of other characters, old and new.

I dont know if that hepled but if i missed something i could always pm you with whatever spoilers you want.

And La Li, what technical problems are you talking about, other than the fact that that part sucks.

btw, I just started playing as dante and beat a few bosses, i think im at level 21 or something.

Verrrryyy Niiiiiccce!

onyshuma - February 9, 2008 07:22 AM (GMT)
i made a lot of progress today im now on lvl 19 (what difficulty are you guys on? im playin devil hunter) and you should be putting the spoilers in a spoiler tag (just in case)

Aquila - February 9, 2008 11:06 AM (GMT)
Bah I'm going to have to wait until next week as I'm going away. Can't wait to play it though.

Pricey - February 9, 2008 11:09 AM (GMT)
Yes please use spoilers instead of just saying it. Good job I started at the bottom and read up, thanks Ony.

Midna - February 9, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
how do i do a spoiler tag? I'll do that right now If soemone tells me how

Pricey - February 9, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
Spoiler policy: http://mgsforums.com/index.php?showtopic=17202

And I got it today, been playing for an hour odd. Got to level 4 I think so far.

Muikuli - February 9, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
What I want to know is, is Dante still as cool as in the first one:

Johnyman - February 9, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
Dante has a bit of a dissapointing role in it, you basically play as Nero through most of the game, but still,Dante's there, and he's got the guns' and the good looks :D (and some roses btw)
I played a lot of it at my friend's house, cause I don't own a Ps3 and Xbox and figured I'd just wait for the PC release. Performance and control specific PC issues be damned,I'm playing this no matter what.

onyshuma - February 9, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
I feel so epic right now. I JUST BEAT THE GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME :)!!!!!!!!!

there are some epic weapons that you can get and yes, there are roses too:P my god I'm happy. Now i guess on to son of sparda...

La Li Lu Le Lo - February 9, 2008 11:25 PM (GMT)
I started off with Human, since you're going to have to beat the game on all difficulties to unlock all of the achievements. I'm on Mission 18 and I will be done with the game tomorrow.

Pricey - February 10, 2008 04:10 PM (GMT)
Ok one thing that they havent changed and pisses me off the most. Whats the point in having a damn save feature if wherever you save, it takes you back to the start of the level. I hate that so much.

onyshuma - February 10, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
i have now completed the game on human and devil hunter and now i am roughly just over a quarter through son of Sparda. If anyone needs any questions answered i think i will have a good enough understanding to offer as much help as I can.

@Pricey: it does seem kinda pointless, but since its a level based game it would be pointless to save/start in the middle of a level. The save feature is there so that if you get tired of playing you can save any objects you have recently picked up or all the orbs/proud souls you have gotten. It is also for the achievements function (if you save and quit after you achieve something, you will get that achievement (ie. S, SS or SSS achievements). Its just so that if you have accomplished something on a smaller scale and dont want to play anymore, you don't have to lose it.

g-fox - February 11, 2008 02:20 AM (GMT)

thats normal, we all had to do it.

anyways, Im almost halfway through demon hunter mode and thank god i got to keep all of my moves and powerups from human mode. Its a freakin breeze, also, Im using automatic so im in heaven. I get an S rating after every level for stylish points lol.

I'm loving it.

La Li Lu Le Lo - February 11, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
Same here..I'm on Mission 11 in Devil Hunter Mode now, but as easy as it may be I did notice a slight difficulty change.

onyshuma - February 11, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
come on guys, its more fun without automatic. i usually get an a or an s for style (with nero you don't even have to use different combos if you use the right ones) and it makes the game so much more fun. Oh and for the record, when you get into son of sparda, it really helps to have exceed lvl 3 and the charge up skill. ;) It makes the game that much easier.

BigBoss14 - February 11, 2008 11:05 PM (GMT)
hey do you have to play the other games to understand DMC4

onyshuma - February 11, 2008 11:45 PM (GMT)
Not really no. They are good to play to have a general understanding of how the game works, but its not a requirement. This is mostly due to the fact that Nero is the main character in this game, not Dante. If you are looking to get into this series, and your wondering if you need to play the other games to get references, then you are in luck as the references are not vital at all to the game play. For those who have played the entire series though, there are some things that make appearances (i would say something about certain characters here, but i really don't feel like it).

EDIT: I am now officially done half of Son of Sparda mode.

sadistic_greyfox - February 14, 2008 03:21 AM (GMT)
I just got the game and so far it's living up to the previous games in the series. Is there any real difference to the two difficulty settings I'm playing devil hunter but the only thing that really felt hard was my first boss fight; I'm not very far. I turned Automatic off, I'm used to the ridiculous difficulty of DMC3 so i don't need those little things really. Will the difficulty I chose come back to haunt me in more advance boss fights?

xeros666 - February 14, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
should i by this game? iv been debaiting for about a week or so! is it better/ant different from the other games? it looks cool, iv heard its like heavenly sword, any truth to this clame?

onyshuma - February 14, 2008 04:49 AM (GMT)
Firstly, YAY SAD. I wouldn't worry too much about the difficulty level you chose out of those two. It gets semi hard at the end because you don't have many of the skills that make the game that much easier, but it still isn't really overly hard (unlike DMC3 which was like stabbing yourself in the eye). Devil hunter is a fair bit more difficult than human (but that is to be expected) just be prepared to feel semi frustrated at times when playing and don't give up. As I'm sure you remember from DMC3, it all feels worth it in the end. The boss fights are an interesting feature in this game, as some are harder than others, but they don't go in a strict progressing order. You do have some leeway at times and others you will think "god damn, i just got lucky".

On to the second point. This game is, in my opinion, one of the best games (and series for that matter) to ever hit the Sony Playstation brand. It is worth a buy even if you don't like the style of game, because it is just that damn good. I have never played heavenly sword, but i heard it was like god of war. If it is then it could be considered in the same class as that game, but i personally think DMC is much better. So in short, HELL YESS you should buy this game.

sadistic_greyfox - February 14, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
DMC pretty much paved the way for modern games like Ninja Gaiden as well as God of War. If I recall correctly DMC was really one of the first hack & slash to have upgrades, or atlest the first to implement them in an interesting way.

I'm going to have to agree with you on that one.

La Li Lu Le Lo - February 15, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
I'm playing through Son of Sparda. Some of the enemies found later on in the game make an appearance early on. Anyone done with it? Does it get much harder towards the end?

onyshuma - February 16, 2008 09:52 PM (GMT)
i can tell you that its a pain after about lvl 5, just keep playing. Im on level 12 now (i slowed down considerably now) but yeah the electricity guy is not fun to fight at all.

NINJA - February 16, 2008 10:09 PM (GMT)
I got DMC4 around last week and have yet to play it. o.o Addicted to Cod4.

Solid Turd - February 16, 2008 10:33 PM (GMT)
I've been watching my friend play through it. The story is bizzare as hell.

color - February 16, 2008 11:24 PM (GMT)
It looks good. I don't have a PS3 yet, but when I do get one DMC4 is one of the games I'm definetly picking up.

g-fox - February 17, 2008 01:08 AM (GMT)
the gameplay is pretty boring to me,the main reason why i rented the game is to just watch the cutscenes

color - February 17, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
Really, because I heard this game has one of the most deep combat schemes ever. Rivalling Ninja Gaiden.

sadistic_greyfox - February 17, 2008 05:31 AM (GMT)
Well it's hard to please everyone. I'm really digging the Combat and Combos alot, so much so that I'm replaying missions on human mode after completing each Level with Demon Hunter. It's a class A game and is pretty damn funny to.

Liquidus_Snake - February 17, 2008 01:36 PM (GMT)
