Title: Best Sequels ever...

Darth Big Boss - February 17, 2008 12:24 PM (GMT)
We loved the original movie, and some people say that good sequels are extremely rare... but these went far and beyond the originals... Which are the best sequels you've ever seen?

In no particular order...

Aliens - James Cameron is god... instead of copying the original horror-feel of the sci-fi epic 'Alien.' He made a badass action-war sci-fi movie, and the cherry on top was the Alien Queen, the best movie monster ever that was not made with Special Effects, but with every puppet trick in the book.

Terminator 2 - Once again, James Cameron is god... I'll just sum this up by saying this is THE BEST SEQUEL EVER.

X-Men 2 - The first one was badass, but this took another direction besides Good vs Evil, one side wanted peace, one wanted all humans dead, and another wanted all humans dead. I've never seen another movie with three sides... anyway, it was everything a sequel should be... more characters, more action, better plot...

Saw 2 - This came completely out of left field... because it was supposed to suck... coming out one year after the original, a new director, no big actors returning, and no one was expecting for there to be two better plot twists than the original... but there were three! Best horror movie sequel ever.

28 Weeks Later - This was another horror movie sequel that was supposed to suck... no returning characters or director... and it had the US army in it, and it came out around the same time as Hills Have Eyes 2, another horror movie with the US Army as the victims... but it turned out to be the best zombie film I've ever seen, with great characters, great plot, and one of the best endings in a horror movie, ever.

Don't you mean: Good vs Evil, one side wanted peace, one wanted all humans dead, and another wanted all MUTANTS dead?

Anyway I agree with you on T2. (who wouldn't?).
I going to say Spiderman 2. It was way better than the first one.

doubleo sigint - February 17, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
Spider-Man 2
Terminator 2
Blade 2
Ace Ventura 2
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back (sequel)
X-Men 2

skywalker - February 17, 2008 02:29 PM (GMT)
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back was not a sequal, it was part of a trilogy.

Was there was a movie before: Star Wars Empire Strikes Back, then is a sequel.

skywalker - February 17, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Its not a sequal because before they ever started the movie Star Wars it was decided that it would take 3 movies to tell this story hence they made it a trilogy. Just like Lord of the rings the 2 towers is not a sequal, all 3 movies tell 1 story. A sequal is an after thought once the first has been made.

jonhou - February 17, 2008 03:13 PM (GMT)
Isn't a sequel a movie that continues the story on the previous one?

Young Snake - February 17, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
^Trilogies are stories divided into three parts. They all tell the same story, and each parts continues immediately where the previous one left off.

A sequel usually is a different story from the previous film, and even if it continues on a previous story, there's not an immediant transition.

On the question, I would say Terminator 2, X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2 and the Godfather Part II.

Disciple - February 17, 2008 03:22 PM (GMT)
To Hell with you guys, Empire's still on my list. :P

T2- One of my all time favorite movies.

Aliens- A masterpeice. Cameron really knows his stuff...er...knew his stuff.

Rambo- Saw it twice now. Love.

There's others but I can't think right now...

Gatsby - February 17, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Spider Man 2- The best Superhero movie of all time. The reason Spider Man 2 does so well is that it doesn't focus on Peter's powers. Spider Man 2 is not a super hero movie, it's a character study with super powers thrown into the mix to serve as a catalyst. Has one great villain with an amazing personality, Doc Ock played by Alfred Molina does his role perfectly, just a great film in general.

Kill Bill Volume 2- Not really a sequel, but the second half of Kill Bill(It was originally one movie, but QT was forced to cut it in half so he didn't release a four hour film into theaters.) But it tells a more personal tale in the Kill Bill universe. It does well with it's kung fu and Samurai flick references by including a training sequence with Pai Mai. Everything that we're promised will happen, happens. The the dialogue between Bill and Beatrix at the end is flawless, and the film has an ending which is not something we'll end up seeing, but yet we'll know must happen.

The Godfather Part 2- The last good Godfather film. Took a loot at the rise of Vito Corleone(Robert Dinero did an amazing job), and it also took a look at Micheal as he lost himself more to the nature of his business. Just an extremely powerful film.

X-Men 2- This is a movie that I liked better for the sum of it's parts, it's screenplay is really really bad, in a lot of areas, but it makes up for it by being good in all the right places.

Well, thats debatable. GL doesn't seem to be able to make his mind up. Half the interviews he has he says it was intended to be a trilogy and half say he didn't expect he would be making more than 1 of 'em.

So yeah, either way, i'm saying ESB.

Aliens as well, it was a mighty improvement and the best of all the aliens movies.

Other than that, there isn't much else. Sequals, unless intended, always seem to be just for the money and turn out bad.

solidfox - February 19, 2008 06:36 AM (GMT)
Favorite sequel of all time is Terminator 2...hands down...

Alien had good sequel as well..

James Cameron is great with doing em...he should make a Titanic part two...

Others would be Spider Man 2,

X2

SHOCKED that nobody mentioned Clerks 2 cause of its baddassness

Austin Powers 2 cause now my good friend Verne is in it

Aladdin 2

I'm SHOCKED someone thought that was a good movie.

solidfox - February 19, 2008 07:15 AM (GMT)
You must honestly be the first person I've ever heard that didn't like it. In fact most people I know, now say it is their fav comedy. But of course, everybody's taste varies. I just love Kevin Smith's sophisticated humor

Also forgot to add Batman Begins, despite its not really a sequel to any of the others...its still another Batman.

jonhou - February 19, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
Back to the Future 2 is also a very good sequel.

Helikaon - February 19, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
Aliens. This is a lesson in how to make a sequel. every director, screen writer and producer should be forced to watch this and the original before attempting to make a sequel.

Aliens Versus Predator: Requiem. Shit as it is, I am thankful to the Strause Brothers for delivering a true sequel to Predator. Cool that it had aliens in it as well, maybe next time they can make a decent AVP movie. Heres a hint: Space +More Aliens + More Predators = Win.

The Godfather II. Lovely sequel, a nice continuation of the descent of Micheal Corleone into the murky underworld of the mafia. Plus De Niro is amazing as Vito.

Meh, it was awesome, but EFNY was so much better. And as for Clerks II, it was awesome, but Clerks. was infinitely better.

I agree with all the mentions of Aliens, T2, Godfather Part 2, etc.

I'm sorry, but I just have to disagree, the film was awful. It lacked the character development that we saw in the first.
Also I liked the violence in Predator because it wasent so 'In your face' as the second.
It also had the better "You are one ugly motherfucker!" =P

As for good sequels.
~ Ace Ventura 2
~ Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
~ Rush Hour 2
~ Terminator 2

Can't think of that many really.

Empire Srikes Back
Toy Story 2

UrbanCombat - March 30, 2008 01:00 PM (GMT)
Terminator 2
Shrek 2
Mummy Returns
Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom
Back to The Future 3 (The first is still the best though)
Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's chest, At World's End
Spiderman 2 + 3

skywalker - April 1, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)
Not sure if the Pirates is considered a trilogy but I loved those next 2.

Shrek 2 was great.

Really like the Mummy Returns. Saw that with my now sister in law when we were kids, never forget that.

Not putting in any star wars because those are not actually sequals.

Star Trek TNG sequels were all good, even though nemesis wasn't very popular I still thought it was worthy of Star Trek.

Null - April 1, 2008 04:00 AM (GMT)
The single best sequel to a film ever made is called 'The Godfather II' people.

Nothing has ever been able to beat it.

HO! Are you serious? Clerks II was an effin brilliant film. Just as good as the first if not better.

Aliens
Terminator 2
Psycho II
The Godfather Part II
Bride of Frankenstein
Die Hard 2 & 3
Matrix Reloaded - Mr Smiths battles & the car chase brilliant.
Dawn of the Dead ( Sequel in the Dead series to Night of the Living Dead)
The Omen III: The Final Conflict
Indiana Jones 3
Back to the Future 2
Every Star Wars Episode except for Episode 2, Horrific it is!
Titanic 2........ It should happen

The Wiseman - April 19, 2008 02:02 AM (GMT)
You gotta have The Godfather II on your list! A masterclass of acting by Al Pacino, and Coppola filmed it beautifully.

VII - April 19, 2008 02:44 AM (GMT)
lol at people saying empire strikes back isn't a sequel.

Eh, definitely not as good as the first but still awesome.

Also, I don't accept AvP: Requiem as part of Alien canon. Maybe Predator, because the original took place in the "present day" (i.e. late 80s), but as the AvP movies take place in the present day and the Alien films take place in the future, and the Company had no idea what the xenomorphs were in the original Alien films, fuck AvP.

Boss_Snake - April 19, 2008 02:56 AM (GMT)
My opinion is the best sequel ever has to be First Blood Part II: RAMBO. The first was great, but the second was what made Rambo an American Icon. Plus, you can see the elements of Rambo are in MGS. (The headband, Colonel Campbell's appearence based on Colonel Trautman's, etc.)

Yes, and like Darth Big Boss said, this is the 'best sequels' topic. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation doesn't belong anywhere near this topic. Hell, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation doesn't belong at the bottom of a list of the 1000000000000000 best movies ever made. Unless there's some long lost cut of MK:A that's insanely awesome that I've never seen, that movie was a disaster, and definitely not a good sequel to the first MK (which I wouldn't call a disaster, but certainly wasn't any good itself).

Hippysnake - April 21, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
The Godfather Part 2.

I'm not terribly sure which is better. The original or the sequel. This movie is by far the best sequel ever, and Copolla outdid himself on this one. If he hadn't fucked up so much with Part 3, I'd've put him just behind Speilberg in terms of directing.

Spiderman 2.

Didn't introduce nothing majorly new. But still, one of the best movies/ sequel ever.
