I never owned the first Battalion Wars but I was exited about getting this game for wii.
The game is a great game, one every wii owner should have in his bag. The game has a quite original idea and there are very few games out there - if any - that are anything like it. Campaign is pretty fun and lasts for around 12 hours which is an OK length. Online Co-op I enjoyed and the other online games, Assault and Skirmish, were always going to be fun.
However, this game could have been so much more. There is room to make this game among the best. More than 1 player on the same console would have been amazing, perhaps co-op campaign or something similar to the online assault and skirmish. 4 player would be phenomenal but 2 player would be awesome as well but this game limits you to 1 player.
Also, the only single player mode that there is, is campaign. I would have liked to just have free skirmishs matches against AI, not have to go through all the checkpoints and defend this, attack that in campaign mode - this seriously limits the replayability. Also a mode where you could custom create maps like in its handheld counterpart (Advanced Wars) would have been fabulous.
All in all, while I have focused on the bad parts here, the game is damn fun, despite the fact this game could have improved majorly. I enjoyed it and I think its a game defiantly worth checking out. My review:
Graphics: 8 - I love the sexy cartoony graphics that the wii delivers. It might not be the 'super HD' realistic stuff the PS3 and 360 gives but heck, why do I want realistic? If I wanted realistic I would look out the frigging window.
Sound: 6 - Nothing impressive here. All the sounds of war and some nice midi type (but not actually midi) sounding menu tunes. Voice acting average as well.
Gameplay: 9 - intuitive design and one you defiantly want to try and come back to. I want more of it though.
Replay Value: 7 - They got a decent sized campaign and decent sized online mode too. Shame though, with my ideas above, this game would have scored a 10 in replay value. I know I keep saying it, but this game could have been so much more.
Overall: 8 - Defiantly worth checking out, but please Kuju, give Battalion Wars 3 a go, you could make it a game to remember for a long time.
So thats me done. Anyone else got/played this game? Give us you thoughts.
