Title: the Haiku page!
Description: open to all!
tsuchinoko finder - February 29, 2008 02:37 AM (GMT)
i just started playing around with haiku and i thought it'd be sweet if i shared them. then i thought it'd be sweeter if everybody started writing them. so if you don't know here are the guidelines for Haiku.
the haiku is three lines long in the first line there can only be five sylables in the second line only seven and then five in the last line like so:
Five seven then five
This is the art of haiku
Oh knowing reader
play around with it guys! heres some more:
The foolish monkey
Stands upon a tree in spring
And thinks himself tall
Riff raff sling that slang
Haiku is not difficult
As some would name it
Whales swim in the sea
Raptors soar into the sky
Horses run the plains
Oh cherry blossom.
How can you fall so freely?
While others stand still.

I don't get it, do you count syllables differently ??
1. poem - there are 7 syllables in the first line, but theres only allowed 5, so its not an haiku.
2. poem - its the 1st haiku in this post.
3. poem - 7 syllables in the 3rd line - not a haiku.
4.poem - 6 syllables in the 1 line - not a haiku.
5.poem - the 2nd haiku in this post.
remember ! 5 lines in the 1st line, 7 in the 2nd and 5 in the last line. and you can't change the order.

How the hell are you counting the syllables? Those are all 5-7-5.
Nice haikus, by the way. Maybe if I write some I'll post 'em here.

wtf ?
I guess in different languages , syllables are counted differently.
well I count them this way:
Fi-ve-se-ven-then-fi-ve
This-is-the-art-of-hai-ku
Oh-kno-wing-rea-der
etc.
my bad then.

My body is utterly repulsive,
I love myself
But I only date men.
(Note, I am in no way implying that BigK is a girl, I am however implying that he's a very weird middle ground like Michael Jackson or Prince.)

Well, mine aren't as good as tsuchinoko's, but here's a few I wrote today.
Modern ancient poem
Fog rolls over rock carving
Enlightened man smiles.
Bodhisattva bird
Sing your song from the tree branch
The sun sets warmly.
Melting sunny sky
Deer feeds on sweet new berries
Cycle of the earth.
Rock slab under tree
A sad happy man finds peace
The wind blows softly.
Silly squirrel boy
An acorn is a godsend
In the grass so green.

whoa...okay lets try it like this sylabels remember only five sylabels in the first line then seven again then back to five some of you have an extra thats okay but i'm not naming names had ten in the first line count the sylables in the word like this Syl-a-bels check it out
five1 se-ven2 then1 five1= 5 sylabels
this1 is1 the1 art1 of1 Hai-ku2=7 sylabels
oh1 know-ing2 read-er2= 5 sylabels
just like that words have a certain beat thats why Haiku are taught so much in college so you can decern a beat in other poetry and because with time and practice they are really fun. try some more i'm going to see if i can find a website that can explain it better
look at Fear held dear! he's got it down keep it up man! those are great :)

A crust so crispy.
Coal fired cheesy goodness.
Totono's pizza.
And for those of you who've seen Prince of Space...
A grove of ceaders.
A chicken space ship launches.
This movie sucks ass.

and now the mack daddy of all haiku... THE EPIC HAIKU!!!
To traverse this realm
Escape from dry Rosamond
And it’s dreary waste
To broad mountain holds
Beautiful green forest hills
That is Alaska
To Greece I shall go
And apprise the green vistas
To desert dwellers
Then to Germany
In all it’s stroodle glory
And perhaps a pint
Next to India
Where heat makes people chakar
Domain of tigers
I’ll swing to Japan
And show them this long haiku
How they’ll laugh at me!
After, I’ll come home
Content with all my travels
And take a good break
and some other stuff
Those with youth and strength
Shall always fall victim to
The wise and cunning
Sewage in the seas
Starless nights in yellow skies
New York under waves
Eloquent Judo
What great love I have for thee
And how fun it is
The Red samurai
Shall soon fight Blue samurai
But neither shall win
Joe McGee would say
“I butter bread on both sides!”
he had greasy hands
dawn falls into night
golden things lose their brilliance
All dust in the wind
