Title: Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy
Tamashi_7 - March 3, 2008 11:19 AM (GMT)
Wow. I just completed this game about two days ago (as you can see from my graphics set) and I have to say, it was fucking unbelievable! This game really blew me away; and it is most definitely in my top five games. I whole-heartedly regret not buying this game when it first came out, because it was close.
Story:
Seriously, this game has one of the best stories to any game that I have ever played. It's just so engaging and in-depth that it really sucks you in to the point that you're begging for more. It was actually quite a wonderful change to play a game that had a decent story - it's something very rare to find in games, unfortunately. But it really is amazing.
The whole murder mystery that surrounds the main character and psychological aspects that tie into that is simply genius. Then, to discover the complexity of the narrative is simply thrilling; nobody would think of a shadow organization that controls the world is pulling the strings behind these murders to fulfill a prophecy connecting to an ancient civilization. I mean, fuck - it's just insanely incredible!
Gameplay:
Like the story, the gameplay is very unique among other titles - and in a good way. It was a delightful change of interaction. I can see how some people wouldn't like it, but I respect the change, and it allowed for many things in the story. Like Sad told me before I played the game - it's basically an interactive movie, in that you have certain control over the cut-scenes by the form of gameplay interaction. It's really awesome.
---
Overall, I just love this game. I'd recommend it to anybody who likes mysteries, complex narratives (and you all should if you like MGS), is a fan of the Matrix, and isn't afraid of a change in gameplay. Actually, I'd say everybody should at least give it a try - even if you just rent the game - because it's really something else.
The entire atmosphere of this game is outstanding. You'd really have to play the game to know what I mean. Because of this, I'm now even more hyped for Heavy Rain.

I played this game a couple of years ago, and I also think it was awesome.
I also like that you can fail some scenes, where you have to use both analog sticks, and get another outcome of that scene.
It's a good game, but it's not for all people like you said.
wolfie - March 3, 2008 11:34 AM (GMT)
Yes is great that is why I am so exited about Heavy Rain, but there is hardly any info about this game. :(
God Told Me to Skin You Alive - March 3, 2008 12:06 PM (GMT)
Tam, have you played Killer7? Or Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem? If you're looking for a literally mind-blowing story, you can't go wrong- Killer7 especially. People who have played it will back me up on this, but the only one I know of on MGSF is BigK... (hmm) but trust me it's amazing, especially since I know you're love of insane animes.
To summarise: I can't remember the exact quote, but one of the directors have said that 'Taken on the first level, nothing makes sense. It's only when you begin to see the metaphors and symbolic representations that game's story holds that the pieces start falling together- the many interpretation's of the story are as varied as the players of the game'. The basic story from the start is that you play the role of Harman Smith, a wheelchair bound old-man who is actually the most dangerous assassin in the world. Harman has not just one split personality, but seven (hence the title, Killer7), all of which he can take the physical form of, in order to fight his best friend/arch enemy Kun Lan's army of suicide-bomber zombies (the 'Heaven Smiles') to prevent America from destroying Japan.
Yeah, exactly.

Exactly. I love that aspect of alternative story outcomes depending on your actions in the game. I mean, it's amazing, really. There's even three endings - which is awesome.

Yeah, I know; I've been meaning to get that game, too. Trust me, you're not the only person who's told me that is has an amazing story. I'll get it.
It really does sound amazing.

I played the game about a year ago, it's really awesome.
I like most the fighting scenes, and the story is great too... :)
Pricey - March 4, 2008 11:20 AM (GMT)
I only played the demo. However, I thought the button pressing to dodge things was awesome.
Tamashi_7 - March 4, 2008 11:37 AM (GMT)
I completely agree - that was pretty cool. But you should really play the entire game, Ry.
Another thing I loved was the music - it just proved to be so amazing, and was also well received by game reviews. The songs by Theory of a Deadman are simply great. I had to download them as soon as I finished the game.

WHAT????? Three endings??!!!?!? I have completed it two or three times and only got
the ending where, the female police officer (can't remember her name) is pregnant and is together with the main character (can't remember his name either :()
That actually happens in all three endings, I believe.
The difference is whether or not you beat the Orange & Purple Clans. Losing against each of them grants you an alternative ending than if you beat them.
It's actually pretty cool that they decided that make the game that way. But still, I was a little unsatisfied with the 'good ending' due to all happy-ass scene it depicts. Ugh... I mean, I know it's the good ending and all, but that just goes against the entire theme of the game.
Still, it was a fantastic game.
Young Snake - March 4, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
I've checked out some reviews on the game and watched some gameplay clips. It really appeals to me, perhaps because I'm a fan of games/movies with a darkened theme and atmosphere. I'll see if I can get it, but doubt I can buy it in a store nearby.
Yackemflaber - March 4, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
I rented and loved this game, I'd really love for them to make another, but I think the company is working on another unique game which has it's own topic here methinks.... that one with the auditions?
Tamashi_7 - March 5, 2008 06:36 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Heavy Rain is going to be sweetness.
I, too, would like to see a sequel to Fahrenheit, though; considering there's still so much ground they can cover. Still, all we can do is wait and see.
Johnyman - March 5, 2008 06:40 AM (GMT)
I thought about getting the game, but got a bit turned off by the fact that you watch too much instead of play. I dig those games as well, but please tell me some more redeeming qualities. (except the OMFG story part)

Sounds like MGS to me...

Actually, you have to interact with the cut-scenes to further the scene progress. So, you're always doing something.
And like I've already said, an interactive story is simply amazing to play because you have control over what's happening in the story.
Johnyman - March 5, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
Man I just played it and you are right!
By the looks of it,it will probably have multiple endings.
Some of the action sequences are pretty tough though,I end up dying a lot.
Also,
I chose to save the little kid in the beginning, now some hellish spiders are after me while I'm at work! I tried a few times but always end up being crazy
Those are actually extremely large mites - not spiders. Nevertheless, those bastards are a compulsory part of the story - you won't change that.
Some of the decisions you make merely reflect upon your 'mood'. If you make too many bad decisions, then your mood goes down to the point of suicide. The idea is to keep it up by making good decisions throughout the game.
Pricey - March 5, 2008 02:38 PM (GMT)
I think I may just bid on it on eBay or something.
King Snake - March 5, 2008 03:02 PM (GMT)
I heard that they wanted to make the game in episodes, like Half Life 2. But I don't know why they didn't do that.
Johnyman - March 5, 2008 03:16 PM (GMT)
Thanks Tam,but you never really answered my question, multiple endings?
Do they exist? Or am I just going to have to stop this guy from killing himself?
Which is going to be hard seeing as where things are going. Also,is it possible for the other two characters to put an end to it all?
Tamashi_7 - March 5, 2008 03:58 PM (GMT)
I didn't think that was a legitimate question about the multiple endings, because I did confirm earlier that there are indeed multiple ending you can acquire.
Nevertheless, you are gonna have to keep each character's mood up because despite the story being interactive and all, it's still got one central plot-line which it follows - which kinda makes your last question impossible if it isn't in the actual storyline. You'll just have to wait and see.
Johnyman - March 5, 2008 04:02 PM (GMT)
Well I may have to wait bloody long,I have the PC version, and my PC is buggy as hell and it crashed numerous times. Now the bitch simply refuses to run. Now I have to reinstall it and start from the beginning...
But,at least I'll be able to do some stuff better now that I know what's coming.
When you first played it,did you just run out the door of the toilet or did you clean up the blood first? Guess what I did <_< .
Well, yeah, I did clean up the blood and certain other things. However, you have to do things a certain way in a time frame, so I screwed up once or twice there. It happened a few times later on in the game, too, when you're supposed to do things a specific way. It's like trial and error - you learn from your mistakes.
On a side note, you should probably try closing your spoiler tags so it doesn't gobble up your signature in future.
Johnyman - March 5, 2008 04:46 PM (GMT)
Oh crap, even after a reinstall my saves are magically there...Wierd...
Anyway, sorry but I actually REALLY need help now:
I've made it to the part where I play as Lucas junior,I can't get past a long line of guards,I tried to move along with the truck but it just doesn't work
Cool, I managed to close it this time.
jonhou - March 5, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Here's something about the altenative endings:
You've got to sneak through a hole in the fence and avoid any guards - just stay out of their line of sight and you should be fine.
There's not much else I can say to you.

I agree; the opening and so many other parts of the game just make you wanna keep on playing due to the story arc which is being presented - you're just so eager to discover what happens next that you can't put the control down.

I agree with you Johnyman. I can remember that I used to hate that part, but:
like Tam said there's a hole in the fence, but I seem to remember that you have to climb over the very first fence. Then just stay behind the trucks/cars (it will work eventually) until you get to the hanger
doubleo sigint - March 8, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
Tam you forget one thing, you actually get to have sex in this game and I mean you've actually got to move the analogue into the right rhythm in order to pleasure the girl right lol. Not to mention the sex scenes are quite erotic. Late night TV worthy lol and R* got flack for the hot coffee thing because of what....stupid.
But yeah i bought this game like two years ago and really enjoyed it. I completed it the following morning. Don't get the wrong impression it's not a short game, perse but I played it non-stop so I could return it in the morning. It was very innovative and different.
Scariest part of the game is no doubt when you close the medicine cabinet and you see that zombie reflection behind you, I physically jumped lol.
