Just a question I asked after playing MGS1 and 2.

It's a matter of Opinion. Not much is known about Gray Fox since he originated in the nearly 20 year old version of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Although he played a respectable role in MGS1 I never was able to call him one of my favorites. Or become attached to him in the way I find Solid Snake to be so bad-ass and totally cool.

Jack (Raiden) on the other hand has an awesome history and life story with an interesting future to back it up with great potential, while Gray Fox was crushed by REX like a bug.

not much is known?!,have you even payed attention to the games,mpo especially,they have almost the same backstory,they were both child soldiers,although grayfox wins automatically cause he's that badass,btw this topic should go in mgs other as raiden isn't even mentioned in mgs1
another thing,would it be any different if raiden faught rex in mgs1,he would have been crushed,in his mgs4 form he could probably take down rex,but have a hard time doing it,also the cyborg suits technology from grayfox's to raiden's are way far apart,but grayfox would still win cause he's a better soldier,he has alot more expierence than raiden,fox died to help snake beat liquid,he gave it everything he got and was killed,don't be disrespecting fox man

Its pretty hard to tell as we have only seen video's and pictures of raiden as a ninja, But he does look pretty dominating in each of them..

I'll say they both die in an explosion and no one wins -_-

id say Fox, he would win. Hands down. when you say Ninja - you think Gray Fox, not raiden

I'm quite fond of both of them actually, and it's really pointless to say at this point who is better than the other.

Saying that Raiden sucks because of his role on MGS2 is just stupid, you haven't even seen for real what role he will play in MGS4.

Hell no. Do you see Fox stabbing himself to kill someone behind him? NO. And Fox was crushed by a mere Rex. Raiden destroyed 25 Rays, survived torture, then killed his tentacled father all in a few hours. Now THAT's skill.

umm you do remember Fox has been thru alot more than just being killed by Rex in MGS right?

Gray Fox is, simply put in words, in some way better. He has tons of more experience, and even though Raiden is more advanced with his technology and he fits more, yes, "stylish", I'd say Gray Fox is better. He has gone through a lot more, including getting killed in MGS1 by Metal Gear Rex/Liquid, plus I am more fond of the character type.

^It's the same character type you idiot. Both Gray Fox and Raiden were child soldiers, raised by Big Boss and Solidus respectively. There's not much separating them.

Yeah cause he's da original Ninja all other Ninjas are posers. Besides he retains more of his humanity then raiden.

Grey fox has suffered a lot more, he had to take that medicine or he couldnt survive and despite all that he was able to fight as good as he did aganist rex.

Fox in action is twin snakes is the definition of bad assery.

If your talking about who is the best now as in present I mean that they are both the same. Gray Fox rocks and so does Raiden in MGS4.
So there you have it. Gray Fox and Raiden are both excellent ninja fighters.
Ps. I rally hope Vamp dies in MGS4 but sadly I think vamp takes Raiden with him XD

Is Gray Fox better than Raiden? Are you kidding me? Raiden sucks. He is possibly one of the suckiest characters of all time. He rightfully got top spot in 'Wez and Larry's Top 10 Most Annoying Video Game Characters'. Theres no denying Snake is awesome. I wanted to play as Snake but instead I had to play as the girly sissy whinny bitch that is Raiden. Not only that but you had to hear his girlfriend nag nag nag nag.

Then, Kojima in an attempt to make people take Raiden seriously, made him a ninja (everyone likes ninjas right?). But he failed miserably, Raiden sucks just as much, sticking a sword through himself does not redeem him.

Like always, this is just a question I had after playing MGS 1 and 2. I personnaly think Gray Fox would kick Raiden's @$$ :P

I prefer Gray Fox over Raiden. I've seen Gray as both human ad ninja. I've only seen Raiden as human and I wasn't too impressed :lol:

they have good qualities but grey fox was much better in his day because he wasn't built to tackle metal gears as good a raiden has because raiden has been designed to fight these where as grey fox wasn't (evidently because he died) but it is purely based on opinion

I'm sure Grey Fox is better than Raiden. He's older than Raiden and has more experience in the battlefield. Plus, his character acts more manly. I'm not being biased with that. :P

I would say in terms of mgs1 and mgs2 then fox is way better.

But in mgs4 raiden looks pretty kickass. It would be good to see a fight between the two. If fox wasnt dead that is.

Hm, yes it would be interesting to see MGS4 Raiden vs Grey Fox. My bet's still on Raiden though, his suit's more advanced, and he's more human than Grey Fox.

I think Grey Fox is better than raiden. Grey fox is faster than raiden.

So not better than Raiden, I'd like to see Grey Fox killing Gekkos every 10 seconds, and whooping guards all over the place, he had to use Stealth and so far in all of the trailers I've seen, Raiden does not use stealth.

grayfox used stealth to scare the piss out of the guards,he could deflect a shit load of bullets coming at him without even seeing his hands move besides a mirage of his blade,not a single bullet even touched him
raiden can't even block 4 knives being thrown at him from vamp
fox would own every damn gekko in sight in half the time raiden could

raiden is more human than grayfox...are you kidding me,raiden is nothing but a head and spine everything else is just artificial,his body is gone where as fox still had his whole body

Maybe not better, but he's got to be faster, stronger, more agile then Fox. There's more then 10 years between those suits. Raiden's "suit" has got to be better..
Also I didn't see Gray Fox move as fast as Raiden does in the MGS4 trailers.
For now I'm still a much greater fan of Gray Fox, but Raiden looks pretty cool now. I hope we didn't see all he's capable of yet in the trailers, then it's al so deja-vu when we play the game.

My response to this poll isn't based on physical strength, attributes, or ability.

My opinion is formed around the personality and the character of each of them. As we've yet to see Raidens role in MGS4, I can't give a 100% unbiased opinion.

But, with the knowledge I have now, Grey Fox takes this one.

You know why ?

Because of his role in MGS1, and being the focal point of the cut-scene that made the game what it is. (In my opinion of course) That scene is The Death of Grey Fox

It's all just so epic that it's brought me to tears quite a few times. Nothing has ever gotten me in a game quite like the death of Grey Fox (except for maybe the whole Eva/The Boss montage at the end of MGS3)

His respect for humanity even though he's not quite human himself, is just so noble. His sacrifice to help save a world that betrayed him, that's a true soldier and a true patriot.

His connection with Snake even up until the end, as he died, is just 100% pure emotion and camaraderie between two soldiers who know nothing but death, destruction, and chaos.


Sure, Jack may have been through plenty of shit, but it doesn't even BEGIN to parallel with Frank. (Again, in my opinion.)

But Raiden looks pretty cool in MGS4.
His face looks cooler and he looks angry!

Gray Fox is my favorite MGS character. And the death scene is truly epic, but I dont think Frank was necessarily thinking about innocent lives when he helped Snake take out REX. He did however care for Naomi. Snake so much as reminded him of what would happen to her if a nuclear strike occured. I think Fox did what he did moreso for her sake than anything else.

it seems a bit unfair to compare RAIDEN and GRAY FOX

NO..not because of who GRAY FOX is and what he meant to the storyline
but because we havent even had a chance to see ''fully'' what RAIDEN can do
we know next to NOTHING about his current status or abilities ''suit-wise''

i think grey fox is way cooler the way he manages to do good despite illness, an just seems slick.
raiden been through a hard times too being brought up through battle at a young age.
but i preffer grey fox!
