Title: The link between MGS1, 2 and the third
Tuxedo Snake - March 9, 2008 07:09 PM (GMT)
hi guys
there's something i can't still get it from the 3 metal gears I played:
-Metal Gear Solid
-Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
-Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
I can find the link between the first two metal gears because of the last conversation between Solidus and the other guy (I think it's the minister of defence) in Metal Gear Solid, but can't find how metal gear solid 3 continues the story of the other two.
MGS starts in the begining of the 21st century but MGS3 starts in the 1960's
Moreover there are other things that change:
In the cutscene before the credits in MGS, Snake tells Meryl that his name is David, but he's called Jack in MGS3, was he just lying to Meryl?
And his codename changes from solid snake to naked snake, or isn't this important?
Another question...
Raiden says in MGS2 that Snake is the hero of Shadow Moses. What is Shadow Moses? :P :P
Helikaon - March 9, 2008 07:18 PM (GMT)
OK.
First of all, the Snake in MGS 3 is not the same man as in MGS 1, 2 and 4.
The Snake of Snake Eater fame is Naked Snake, who later goes on to become Big Boss.
The Snake of Sons of Liberty and the original game is Solid Snake, the clone 'son' of Big Boss.
Shadow Moses is the location of the first game, also the name of the terrorist incident forming the plot of the first game.
Tuxedo Snake - March 9, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
Which means that MGS3 is something like an appart story isn't it?
Helikaon - March 9, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
It's a prequel, it tells the story of Big Boss.
Tuxedo Snake - March 9, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Oh i get it so this snake of MGS3 is the Big Boss that they talk about in MGS and MGS2 right?
The fisrt time i played MGS3 i didn't even payed attention to the date and thaught that the Snake from MGS and MGS2 got the title of Big Boss his "father".. :P
Gotta pay more attention to the cutscenes :o
Helikaon - March 9, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
Hah, yeah it's the same Big Boss.
MGS 3 was meant to show us why Big Boss is known as the Greatest Soldier of the 20th century.
Tuxedo Snake - March 9, 2008 07:31 PM (GMT)
But if this Snake isn't the same man as the MGS2 and MGS why does EVA appear in MGS4
Helikaon - March 9, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
Because she is a character that can add to Snakes story.
EVA is a first hand source for Snake to learn the truth about Big Boss.
The three games are all apart of the same story.

I see...
Thanks for all this explaination
One more thing, are MG portable ops and the acids part of the story too? If so I will try to watch it in youtube :D
Helikaon - March 9, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
Portable Ops is, it's a continuation of Snake Eater.
Ac!d isn't, it's a completely non-canon spin off title.

Didn't the fact that Ocelot was only like 20 years old in this game confuse you? Even if you didn't watch the cut scense, you still fight him.
Rev-SQ - March 9, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
You really need to be more attentive.

Well not really because I played MGS in this order:
MGS 2
MGS 3
MGS 1
I almost didn't knew Ocelot, to confuse him with another character...
I knew Liquid but couldn't have a clue that they are the same one untill play MGS 1
UrbanCombat - March 12, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
If I were you I would re-play all the games in order, MGS1, MGS2 and then the third, and pay close attention what each character is saying. This way you will be able get a good grasp of the story and see why we are all hyped for MGS4 :D
Tuxedo Snake - March 12, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
I played MGS 1 in last so I already started to play MGS2 and MGS3 at the same time :P
but thanks for the hint anyway the MGS3 was the only thing I didn't understood besides that I knew the rest of the story there were only a few pieces of the puzzle missing in my head xD
Metalmalitia23 - March 13, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
Play the games in order and it will all make sense.(hopefully) Also, read the game manual for MGS1 it tells the basic back story for MG1 and MG2(from NES) which is important to understand Big Boss more and Snake Eater.

Ha ha this thread is funny, no offence to you tuxedo but I hate it when people think BigBoss in MGS3 is Solid Snake I mean when I first heard that MGS3 was set in the 60's and "Snake" had an eyepatch in PS2 magazines I was like "Obviously BigBoss" and still yet the magazine said "could we be playing as the legendary BigBoss in this games?" well duh!!. It's 1964 for crying out loud! and I don't see Doc Brown in a Delorian for Solid Snake anywhere.
cuttingedge - March 13, 2008 05:15 PM (GMT)
all the games are linked by at least one person or facctor.
Play the original metal gear's on NES or Konami's MSX
Then play 1, 2 and 3.
In that order the way Hideo planned us to.

As I said before I didn't payed attention to the date of the game....
That's why I confused it and as I hadn't played MGS how could I know who is BigBoss

Nah this weren't directed at you this tread just reminded me of when countless MGS noobs used to say BigBoss was Solid Snake.

I think one of the biggest things you find out in MGS3 is that the "Wisemen's Commitee" and the original "Patriots" dying 100 years ago was actually attributed to The Pilosophers.
