Title: Turok

Puppy - March 9, 2008 11:46 PM (GMT)
Here you can talk about the latest Turok game and older ones if you like.

The new one isn't that bad of a game. The knife kills never get old. :D

I heard it would have been a great game if the control sensitivity wasn't so bad, it's hard to point precisely where you want to. There are so many better shooters out there.... Halo 3, Half-Life 2 The Orange Box, Call of Duty 4...

I played the demo wasn't really feeling it. Nothing beats the original for the 64. Now that game was Tits even the sequal was well made

I was expecting a lot but I was a tad disappointed...
Graphics are good, but a little buggy.
Killing stuff seems done appropriately enough,
And oh yeah you can dual wield guns! Which itself alone = win!
But seriously,I give this game a 7.0,it failed to meet my expectations.

Maybe in 2002...

I don't like Turok, I've been playing it for a while and it's just plain disappointing, next to nothing is added to the genre.

It just seems like a poor Haze and Far Cry rip off.

A ripoff? Turok has been around a lot longer then those games

And it does have one original idea. Killing dinosaurs.

Yeah... I have played the original Turok once and heard that the new one is actually decent, but ruined by stupid human enemies.

bought it and returned it days later. there is nothing else to say.

I didn't mean the Turok series, I meant the latest installment in the series.

I'm well aware of the longevity of the series and am a fan of the original and it's sequel.

This game was destined to be bad. You just have to look at Perfect Dark Zero to see going back to N64 classics does not work, won't people just leave these games alone? Turok was amazing on N64, now look at what it has been reduced to.

it was absolute shit,i tried the demo and the game and both sucked major ass,not only because i hate fps(it's about the only kinda games coming out right about now, anything else just sucks ass too cause it's so god damn boring)but because the character was fucking ugly as shit and it sucked ass, there's to many god damn fps games.. <_<

Turok for the N64 was awesome.

I still remember using those explosive arrows and crazy weapons on those dinosaurs.

^_^

Am I the only guy who appreciates this game for what it is?

The gameplay is challenging, as it rightly should be. The sensitivity of aim is a check to ensure that the game's not too easy. Besides, it maintains the image of a charge-em-and-kill-em shooter, but clues you in pretty quickly that tactics and quick thinking play a much larger part in the game.
The graphics and animations are spectacular. Like Puppy said, the knife kills never get old. There's always a major sense of satisfaction in making those kills, which closely parallels the feeling of using the chainsaw in Gears of War. The blood effects really sell it, and the smooth-but-not-too-smooth movements of the characters in gameplay and cutscenes alike are perfect.
The sound is also something that delivers VERY well. Each stab, slice, and scream gets your attention. The only criticism I have with the sound is the shotgun, which deserves to be much louder and more dramatic. Beyond that, however, is the voice acting of such very-well-known actors as Ron Perlman, Don Wahlberg, and William Fichtner. Turok's voice, however, is brilliant. Though I've never heard of Greg Cruz (Turok's VA), his presence in his voice alone makes him extremely intimidating.
The script and storyline is perfectly executed, with little to no unnecessary details included and nothing left out. I appreciate the flashback scenes every time I see them, and I become so engrossed in the story that sometimes I don't even notice the transition from cutscene to gameplay.

I give this a solid 9. It's a good game that I plan on replaying for a long time.

^I would have to disagree in some areas.

The game isn't worth a nine in my book. More like a seven. I liked how you could choose how to fight your battles. The combat is excellent. Going around with the bow and hunting dinosaur/humans is very intense.

The story is boring and clique IMO. The characters aren't likable at all. (Especially Slade. He is such a dick.)

I haven't had much Multiplayer time. I can safely say that I'm having a lot of problem connecting to matches. It takes forever.

Overall Turok is a game that would have been the perfect summer popcorn flick. Considering a film company, Touchstone, made this title it isn't suprising.
