Ahh the great Shenmue where do I start, well I was just looking at some vids on the tube about this game franchise and it kick started my old dying love for it again. This franchise which I think deserves to be right next to MGS in terms of great story, has been left unfinished and has and will leave a big hole in anyone who has played it. There has been speculations on a Shenmue 3 but it's seems it's never going to happen which is very sad because it's the greatest story ever put into video game form next to MGS with a better soundtrack to boot. Anyway I just want to know who are big Shenmue fans like me on this forum and how do you feel about this game that has a main boss that you didn't even get to fight let alone kill and left us in the dust.

FearHeldDear - March 12, 2008 02:03 AM (GMT)
Those games rule and I wish they'd do Part 3.

doubleo sigint - March 12, 2008 02:09 AM (GMT)
You know what I mean. Ryo Hazuki didn't quit he didn't even think about giving up. I wish Yu Suzuki thought more like his character he created.

Ards - March 12, 2008 02:42 AM (GMT)
Is Shenmue really that good? What's it about?

and as for better soundtrack, I highly doubt thats even possible...

doubleo sigint - March 12, 2008 03:03 AM (GMT)
Yes it is really that good it's just that not many people know about it because it was released on such a shitty console and had bad publicity. If MGS had been a Dreamcast exclusive I'm sure it would not have been the game it is today and there would be no MGS2 3 or 4. Trust me Shenmue cost 70million dollars to make and if you play the series you'll see that money did not go to waste. As the soundtrack goes it's enough to make a tear drop out of your eye, it's just beautiful if you've seen movies like Hero or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon the soundtrack is similar to those scores but even stronger.

Ards - March 12, 2008 03:05 AM (GMT)
wow maybe ill pick up a copy off ebay then and check it out

doubleo sigint - March 12, 2008 03:22 AM (GMT)
Yes do that it's very good, come back when your done and tell me what you think.
It maybe a little hard to get Shenmue 1 because it's only on Dreamcast, unless you already have one? Shenmue 2 is easier because it's on the original XBOX which may be easier to get if you don't already have one, the XBOX Shenmue 2 comes with a DVD film of Shenmue 1 anyway. If all else fails try downloading it on PC maybe.
Oh just another fact about the greatness of Shenmue; in all retail stores that still sell the original Dreamcast version both games to this day still cost £24.99 thats around $48.99 in the US, thats how great this game is.

Jiro - March 12, 2008 03:54 AM (GMT)
It's real real good. You can import part 2 for Dreamcast, or you can play part 2 on the xbox.

It felt like 2 was rushed though.

FearHeldDear - March 12, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Dreamcast was the best console ever.

Ghost Sniper - March 12, 2008 05:53 AM (GMT)
Pity there won't be Shenmue 3.

It just failed against the marketing of PS2. Shame, really.

well i wouldn't say they failed, SEGA just refused to compete and pulled out of the console market all together.

I loved the design and the graphics of the game, not to mention the overwhelming sense of freedom that was actually as true to our first impressions as it could be (heheheh, coffee in a soda machine).
That being said, the lines and the voice acting were extremely cheesy about 80% of the time. My mind looks directly to Chai, Enoki, and that doofus that was your eyes-and-ears at the harbor (he buddied up with you after you kicked his ass when you first came to the harbor) for examples of the bad voice acting.

Other than that, it was a true unsung triumph in gaming.

FaizanKauser - March 12, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
Completed shenmue 1 and 2 ^_^

Yeah the VA was really bad especially the XBOX version of Shenmue 2, Ryo literally sounded like a robot. But the original Japanese VO for Shenmue 2 on the DC was brilliant and they actually sounded alive.

I fixed my Dreamcast and I love it.

For sure, it is the best system ever due to its games and stuff but it didnt beat the PS2 like someone said, due to more abilities than the DC and if the DC could play DVDs, I beat the XBOX360 and the PS3 would have got more features than the current position.

Dreamcast was amazing, it was ahead of it's time. While later on PS2 had the greatest games, I personally belive DC was the superior of the two.

kurt cobain - April 2, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)

Amen to that! Plus, wasn't it the first console to include online connectivity?

Yeah, it was the first to have a built-in modem/ethernet port/whatever. DC probably would have had way better games than PS2 if it had lasted longer than like a year and a half. Games that were on both consoles were so much better on DC, they even had better graphics.

But there's clearly plenty of demand to warrant a Shenmue 3, every forum I go to that ever has any kind of Sega topic is just full of Shenmue 3 comments.

Guys if anyone loves the Dreamcast as much as anyone it's me. I only called it shity because it gave up so easily to the PS2. I should rephrase that, it's not the console that's shity, as someone said it was way ahead of it's time and was the first to have online play. Hell the XBOX and the 360 are carbon copies of the Dreamcast that just goes to show ya doesn't it? It's not the console thats shity it's Sega and Yu Suzuki for being so chicken and not putting up a fight.
