Darth Big Boss - March 16, 2008 06:47 AM (GMT)
Since we have a 'top 5 80s action flicks' I thought it would be sweet to have a list of your favorite action flicks when they really started to become excellent, IMO. But anyway, here's my pics, off the top of my head...

5. Hard Target
4. Batman Returns
3. Mission Impossible
2. Braveheart
1. Terminator 2

I have a gut feeling that acouple people's pics will remind me of better flicks, so I'll change my list acouple of times.

Terminator 2... Uh... Escape From LA? I guess you could call Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels an action movie.

King Snake - March 22, 2008 01:49 AM (GMT)
The Matrix
I liked it, but I cannot now remember some other.

Fyi guys, I don't think Saving Private Ryan should count as an action film. The point of action films is to provide high octane action, it's the kind of action meant to please, however Saving Private Ryan really condemns all the fighting that's going on in the film, during the D-Day invasion it doesn't try and make sense through the battle with it's camera angles, it often pans off showing various people being killed, wounded, most of it having nothing to do with the central group. That was Speilberg's way of showing how senseless all the fighting and violence was, it's a film that had people crying. It was even a film so shockingly realistic that some World War 2 veterans had to leave the theater because it brought back too many bad memories.

1. The Matrix- Great fighting scenes, really interesting overall concept and it's philosophy is always fun to talk about. Keeanu isn't the greatest actor, but neither are the likes of Bruce Willis(Not exactly true, he's a good actor, but there just isn't much room for amazing acting in the Die Hard films, he does good with what he's given).

2. Goldeneye- Pierce Brosnan's last good Bond movie. Great action, decent enough plot, a good combination between a sudo realistic plot, tries to steer away from the general cheeseball nature of Bond, it found a good balance.

3. Desperado- Amazing action scenes, the combat is always a joy to watch and in true Rodriguez nature is doesn't take itself seriously. Steve Bushemi has a pretty awesome supporting role, it's just an really entertaining film.

4. The Boondock Saints - One of the various cult classics of the 90s. Awesome gun fighting scenes and hilarious dialogue coupled with a slew of interesting characters.

5.The Fifth Element- One of the most over the top cheeseball crazy ass movies you'll ever see. Very entertaining and you can just take it with a grain of salt while watching. It had amazing special effects back in the day and it's still a treat to watch.
