I'd make this in the actual 'forum announcements' page, but since I'm only a 'led-by', not an actual 'moderator', I'll have to put it here (Maybe someone will be kind enough to move it there anyway...?). Since the Leaderboards is getting busier and busier all the time, we thought it fitting to have an 'update' thread for it- so you all know the going-ons of MGSF's very own Leaderboards.

• First off, we're all talking about the Leaderboards getting it's own sub-forum. With increased activity, we're sure this can happen, but does anyone have thoughts on this? We'll make a poll sooner or later, I guess.
  
  
• We've updated our MGS3 Duel FAQ to include Special Duel, it's nearing completion. Of course if you have any questions say so in Speed Run Help.
  
  
• We're about to integrate a new Ranking system, so everyone will be able to have their own rank and special graphic. It goes C, B, A and finally S, A and S are especially hard so get practicing!
  
  
• Though we're an MGS forum, the Leaderboards has a Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries board as well. If you have a game you wanna compete against others at, let us know and if enough people are interested then it'll happen. I know ich would love a CTR board, so if you've got suggestions, tell us! ^_^
  
  
• Recently, we've had a few new editions to the forum, people who have only joined for the Boards- people like Take-Chan, Adnan_Kauser, 3lon-, etc. Make sure to be nice to these guys, they're very talented. Of course, old school Duelers like skywalker, ichbinscissors61 and Baggers are still here, still dueling hard, so kudos to them.

CTR board is a dumb idea no-one plays it, stop making boards on games your good at but no-one else even plays (directed at ich mostly), just because you want to top them.

There's many more CTR players on here than Ich, and if there is no board to compare we'll never know who's top. :D

Yeah I admit I suck at CTR, severe beating from Ich's young sister, my pride was greatly damaged that day. But nevertheless the point I'm making is that the mgs leaderboards isn't very active and this is suposed to be a forum of mgs enthusiasts, so if a ctr one was to be made the only entrants would be Ich, smoggy and King snake so it would be a bit crap.

Well, actually, the MGS leaderboards have been very active recently, been getting a lot of posts per day, a lot of people getting involved, new highly skilled people such as 3lon, Liquidussnake, Adnan and Take-Chan, we're doing very well, and have a lot more activity than we used to.

I guess it will depend how many want to enter CTR, looks like we have Micster, myself, Smoggy and Kingsnake so far. I know God is going to get a copy too. Let's just see how many would enter first, and see how many want this thing.
Any other games are good for suggestion too, but it would be good if God or I had the game, so we knew what we were moderating, if not, we're clueless.

I wouldn't have been so polite had I seen the message you posted before. grrr. I have as much of a right to air my opinion as you do, just because it was the truth and you didn't like it.

Apparently you dont check the leaderboards because between duel mode, vr missions, and the speed run help, it is very active. It is one of the few sections of this forum that always has somebody posting in it multiple times a day, most of the time about every hour.

I also fail to see why you would have anything to say against it because you must suck at the game and I don't think other people should be deprived of competing because you got beat but ichbins little sister.

This topic wasn't to proclaim your opinion on why you think the leaderboards suck, it was an announcement to let people know the exciting new things going on with it, and if there was anything else we could add to get more people involved to let god know.

If you want a topic against the leader board, go ahead and create one and we will come in there and crush you.

First of all, let me say sorry for earlier, I overreacted a quite a lot, I think. So I apologise to W&N and anyone else I offended. I didn't really like what you had to say very much, but I shouldn't have gone insane like I did. Let's leave it here, you think what you like about it, but I hope any criticism you have in the future will be helpful and constructive. :thumb:

I guess we can go back to talking about MGS for now, as I'm pretty excited about the new rank system as well. Anyone here who enters will start on the C rank, that includes people like Adnan, even though they're obviously better than that. It's only right that everyone starts in the same place, and proves themselves fairly. I hope you guys like the challenges we've selected for different ranks, which we'll reveal in time. This is an all MGS challenge though, so no RE4 Mercs in it, which we have currently. Basically you pass the challenges and move up to the next rank. The challenges get a lot harder as you go along, eventually reaching the max difficulty on S. S is pretty hellish, it won't be easy for anyone to achieve, apart from Adnan and Take-Chan, who I assume will get here at speed, the madmen.

I'm really looking forward to the new ranks, anyone else as excited as me? :P
C is a nice easy relaxing one, good to get in with, and I think pretty much anybody on this forum can achieve this rank.

I hope we get the system up and running soon.

And as for CTR, if God and I agree on it, and we get plenty of interest, I'll make a poll about it. The enjoyment I'm getting from it at the moment is overshadowing most other things, actually.

Having had a hand to play in the creation of this new rank system, i think it was actually my idea, though Ich and GTMTSYA had huge inputs so its a collective idea, I think its a great way to get people to do something a little different. Thats no offence to anyone here, howvere having only been here for a short space of time, I feel become instituionalised in one type of game or level. I think players such as Ich and Skywalker have such great duel scores, especially Skywlaker Ocelot Unit Normal, it is astounding to be that fast, players of this calibre need to running the game more often and this rank system will ensure everyone has a chance at a bite of the game, and in fun speedrunning ways. As mentioned earlier everyone starts from rock bottom, no exceptions, but those who do achieve ranks will get acknowledged and placed on a hopefully a long list of names of people who have completed each rank challenges. I think its a great idea for some people to do something diifferent.

I have no beef with the mgs leaderboards, for this is an mgs forum fair enough. I suck at that but I understand its a great feature of the forum and theres going to be decent competition (and before you say not you, I'm aware I'm not as good as you, I'm not envious, get over yourself and stop using it as an insult). Also it isn't all that active as I recall Ich comming on to the offtopic having a moan about it.

I just think its a bit out to make a leaderboard on a game your expert at as you know you have a very good chance of topping the leaderboards and going to have weak competition. Its like comming on here and making a leaderboard on some other random shit that no-one else does, and the only reason you do it here is because you don't have the balls to compete on leaderboard on a forum dedicated to it.

To be honest, I can't see the Leaderboards getting it's own forum. It has been discussed among the staff, and while we feel that the Leaderboards is a good sub-forum, we don't feel it warrants a stand-alone forum in the MGS Category.

Basically, the problems lies with lack of new topics being created. Granted, there are a few, and I stress those words very much, active topics, but what about the rest? If you check you'll find that there have only been fourteen topics created since it's beginning. It really isn't enough to warrant it's own forum. The lowest number of topics in a forum is eighteen, the RPG Dungeon, and we are discussing whether or not to get rid of it.

Add that to the fact that it's always the same people posting, it suddenly doesn't become that active. Out of the fourteen total number of topics, it really is only two or three that are active. Two or three active topics with the same people posting in them contantly is not enough I'm afraid.

You need to draw more people into the Leaderboards. Write up a more complete set of FAQs, tips and tricks to get more people interested and taking part. Create more topics, more challenges. If you can draw more activity and more topics into the Leaderboards, then it will stand a better chance of getting it's own forum.

It really is a nice and well moderated forum, but at the moment it seems more deserving of a sub-forum than a forum. Don't get me wrong, Ichbin and God are doing a fine job of moderating the Leaderboards, and it really is a neat addition to the MGS section. Take what I've said, discuss some things and get some more topics posted and people posting, and maybe then you'll get the Leaderboards a forum. :)

EDIT: And ladies, try and keep this civil. We don't want to have to give out warnins or lock this topic.

Thank you Solid Snake the Great for explaining that, I understand that there are not a lot of new topics created and not a lot of followers. I have tried to get more people to come in via youtube but it is slow going. That is why I created the comment section today so if people that are not active in it have an idea on how to make it interesting to them and come in to play.

We will take what you said and put it to work, thanks for letting us know what we need to do to get it there.

Okay i was thinking about the lack of interest point and I'll start releasing a few more videos on my youtube page, I'll try and get take Chan to do it aswel, to mention MGSforums's leaderboards in our video descriptions, now that me and Take Chan have links to other runners pages like AmeabUnio and Brazilian joker we are getting lots of views. I'll PM Take Chan and see what he says but i'll do it on my vids no probs. hope it helps. :-)

Some great ideas for the Leaderboards here, we definitely have to get the hardcore players of MGS in here to post up more scores. (and get new copies of busted games :( )

Now to think about that, I think I came to this forum after watching your advertised video on the MGS leaderboards.

I'll say yeah even though all you guys will beat me lol. Should go back to the duel mode scene but every time I think of playing MGS3 I don't. Always playing something else like COD4 or DMC4 or anything else with a four for some odd reason,

but yeah I'll support you guys and have fun if you guys put up CTR, I remember good times on that game, if only I had it damn!

• New arrival: brazilianjoker. This now means we have all the best players in the world- outside of Japan. Still waiting on AnonymityHope.
• We've started on a universal MGS3 FAQ at SSTG's suggestion. Feel free to contribute, I see there being weapon guides, Camo guides, Techniques guides etc so if you have something we can use, tell us! :)

I have seen you in the leader boards. It is nice to meet you as well. I watched some of your youtube videos. Good stuff. I was just saying I was out of the loop as Adnan and GTMTSYA seemed to know you already, I hade never heard of you before you joined. Nice to have you here though.

Yeah it is great to have Brazlianjoker here, he is a great player with runs across mutliple games including a speedrun in at least 2 (MGS3 and 1) thats I've seen of seen the times for. His substance VR videos are also a joy to watch on his youtube page so do check those out.

It's good to see all of these great MGS players on one board. You can really pick up alot of helpful tips and tricks.

The ranks sound like a fun a great challenge. I'm looking forward to them. I'm already at a couple of top 5 places in mgs3 duel mode and will be continuing to post new stuff like speedruns (MGS:TTS since that's rare on these boards) as soon as I know what the requirments for certain ranks will be. (Stuff like duel mode scores,VR, foxhound, Big Boss runs I would assume.)

Wow i feel quite embaressed looking at my previous post, I think I will take some time out untill this all blows over. I don't think its worthy of a warning though, the language wasn't that bad and skywan....er i mean walker understands it what just an innocent little joke. Anyway my rebellious urges have passed and I will be a good little Wanny from now on and keep my nose out of your topic.

Ok, updates:

• The MGS3 Boss FAQ Skywalker is writing is about halfway done, detailed on how to beat each boss on varying difficulties, including videos, so get over there if you need some help. It'd be useful if people linked our FAQS in noob topics, to help them out as well as giving us the increased exposure. Thanks in advance!
• The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Leaderboards are up, we had a lot of positive reactions to the prospect of having a CoD4 leaderboard, so we're expecting lots of scores. Again, since Ich and I have no idea about anything in the game, if something looks wrong please excuse us- let us know and we'll fix it.
• The Rank system we're going to implement is pretty much done (waiting on OcelotSnake for the graphics, he said he'd be done by Monday :() so if anyone wants to see the criteria for each rank, let me know.
• As usual, any complaints, concerns and comments can be announced here, and of course ich and I are always ready to talk.
