Whilst the game hasn't been released, we've learnt a significant amount from trailers, interviews and other sources. There is also a lot of information overlooked from the other Metal Gear titles that many people are confused or simply don't know about – this is the thread to deal with them and have them all cleared up before game release!

So this thread is to just clear up your questions from 'why is Meryl in the game, I thought she died?' to 'why is Solid Snake so old?' – all queries that basically have a clear-cut answer will be placed in here.

Please note: All questions that seem to have a more ambiguous and controversial nature will be spilt from this topic so it can be properly discussed – just as new topics created for minor queries will be merged into this thread.

Raiden doesnt die in the TGS trailer does he?

I first thought he was just in a bad way after the Vamp fight but a few people seem to think that he dies when he goes all limp.***

They wouldnt show us that would they?

i doubt he's gonna die in the trialer,he might just be badly injured

Probably just wounded after fighting Gekkous/Vamp.

No, they wouldn't reveal the death of a major character in a trailer.

Thats what I thought, I hope it will be a continued rivalry throughout the game instead of just the one fight between them.

I think he MAY die there, or he's dying. Maybe they're rushing Raiden for repairs.

1. Why has snake only got 1 eye now?
2. Why is Raiden a ninja?

1-snake has both eyes he has the solid eye system on his eye to have an advantage in the battlefield
2-umm nobody knows EXACTLY why but his head and spine are his only human parts

1. Solid Snake is using a system caled Solid Eye that helps him see stuff. Im not the biggest MGS buff around here and I ant explain to u why hes wearing it but yeah it confused me the first time i saw it too.

2. It hasnt really been confirmed as to why Raiden is a Ninja but some people have some pretty good theories around here.

He wears a new kind of imaging device created by Otacon, it's called Solid Eye System, it incorporates the Scope, Nightvision and Thermal Goggles from previous games into one device, lessening the load Snake has to carry.

He still has both eyes intact.

In answer to where I've been, I moved away from home for my uni course and have no PS2 (end of teh world situation!) and only just got my internet sorted it's been f**king me about a bit.

Are the Metal Gear Gekkous the mini ones in the trailors that look kind of like REX?

Iv'e seen people mention the Gekkous alot around here and don't know where it came from. Do they mention the name in any of the trialors?

Yes, the GEKKOU are the small Metal Gear units, for example at the end of the E3 2006 trailer Raiden kills three of them.

Where was the name of them mentiond, did Payton talk about them?

Kojima named them in the press release @TGS 2005

Didnt Snake say something about emotion control in a trailer?

I can't remember anything being said in the trailer about this, but I do remember an interview with Kojima stating that you will be able to use psychology against your enemy. Basically, it doesn't matter who you're facing (Militia or PMC); you can tap into their emotions and make them damn near piss themselves.

One example which has been used is scaring them – like you said. In this instance, if you take out an entire team of soldiers except, say, one guy, then that guy will probably end up running for his life and forgetting the fight. Simple things like that allow you to use psychological warfare, in a sense.

Also, I remember Kojima saying in an interview way back in 2006 that he had an actual psychologist working on the team to help get that realistic effect from soldiers and even Snake. This has been one of the finer aspects I've been looking forward to.

well in the trailer, u see a helicopter with snake holding raiden who looks almost dead and out of the helicopter. either he dies here, or he was picked up right after the fight with vamp and lives.

Erm just one simple question, in the 15 minute gameplay demonstration what the hell was snake doing to that PMC's balls???? looked a bit gay to me??

There's nothing new to this. It was applied in MGS2 and MGS3 as well. Ball stunning that is. Just try hitting any guard in either game in the balls and he'll fall unconcious, it's the same thing applied differently.

ok wow i never new bout dat lol i'm sure mgs2 & 3 didn't have the animation i mean wen he did he did it in mgs4 he really gripsed up dat PMC's shit man, u may have been able to knock em out by hitting them in the balls in previous games but not grab em like snake did in mgs4

Then I guess you didn't know that in MGS2 you can knock out a guard by smoking really close to him.

nah i didn't lol guess i was more obsessed with the storyline than the gameplay but its kl i'll be replayin all da mgs games around wen mgs4 comes out.

Does anyone know how old Solid Snake is (officially) in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots?

Nine years ago at shadow moses. If he was born in 1972, and Shadow Moses was 2003, than that would mean he was 31 in Shadow Moses, and then....he'd be 40 in MGS4. Unless my math is fractured.

So I think he's 40.

Why does everyone think its foxdie anyway? It really annoys me when i read a mag or somthing and its got " snake has aged rapedly due to the foxdie virus"

If he was born in 1972 then he would be 41-42 in MGS4.

FoxDie isn’t causing Snake’s premature aging – it is the flawed cloning process used to create him and his brothers. Hell, why do you think Solidus was so old in MGS2 (and prone to die in less than two years)?

Seriously, Snake’s premature aging never did, and never will concern FoxDie.

it is nothing to do with foxdie, but in some magazines it states so, i read a PSM and GAMES and EDGE mags and they all said "he was aging because of Foxdie" but of course they are all wrong. but those mags were old "preE3" so not all facts were known back then.

Tam, you should see some gaming forums (GameTrailer for example). Majority of people don't even know about the flawed cloning for the Snake brothers.
Gene ment in general people don't know about the cloning. Also incase you thought this - Gene doesn't think FoxDie is causing Solid's body to deteriate.

Haha. Yeah, I know he wasn't saying he thought Snake's aging was due to FoxDie, but like him, I am also sick to death of people bringing that up. So, naturally, I went on in a ranting sort of way explaining that it could NEVER concern FoxDie to those who were reading this thread.

But yeah, I wasn't having a dig at Gene - more like everybody else who thinks it is due to FoxDie - but sorry if it sounded like that. Heh. ...Although, Gene just had to bring it up - and that enters the realm of 'oh, no... not a-fucking-gain'.
