Title: Who is the best?
wolfie - March 22, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
So I been waiting a long time for a movie with the two icons of martial arts movies of our time(both borrowing a lot of the best Bruce Lee). Anyways, now that I've seen some trailers of the movie I've been thinking who is the best of the two. I won't vote because I do not know I like Jet Li because he is a though man and so is Jackie but his approach to the genre with comedy mix with action gets annoying sometimes.
Acer - March 22, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
Dude, dude, dude... Everyone knows the two are the best of the best ( togheter with another one who designed the Stranglehold video game).
The Black Devil Of Outer Heaven - March 22, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
Jet Li wins when it comes to the action side of the scope so I chose him.
Sn4ke23 - March 23, 2008 05:51 AM (GMT)
Jet Li, no doubt. Did you see his amazing fighting skills in War and Lethal Weapon 4? Damn...this guy can fight. 10x better than Jackie Chan, in my opinion.
solidfox - March 23, 2008 06:41 AM (GMT)
I personally think it is impossible to tell. Mainly, they both fight with different styles. For the most part people only see Chan in his comedies and not his full talent. (Ever see his old serious movies? Badass) Also...Chan is ancient old.
King Snake - March 23, 2008 11:57 AM (GMT)
I voted for Jackie Chan. He has some older movies in that he really fights and they were really cool.
Ginge88 - March 23, 2008 01:20 PM (GMT)
I voted Jackie Chan as well, because he mixes martial arts and comedy really well.
don't really like Jet Li
Gatsby - March 23, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
I'm not a Jet Li fan at all.
He's always capable of great things in films like Shaolin Temple where it focuses on action alone, but otherwise his films in general are almost always filled with more special effects and they tend to be less quality.
I've always liked Jackie Chan's hybridization of comedy and martial arts, Rumble in the Bronx will always be a classic, and he's worked with Bruce Lee, he's no push over.
So I'm going with Jackie Chan, because over all they're both just as skilled as one another, Jet Li just likes to show it off more.
FearHeldDear - March 23, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
What was that Jet Li movie that came out a year or two ago, Fearless or something? I think that's what it was called. Well, anyway, that movie destroyed. I totally have to go with Li on the strength of that movie alone. There was no stupid-ass Crouching Tiger anti-gravity shit. It was an incredible movie, if you haven't seen it you should go rent it.
Snake Pliskin - March 26, 2008 12:53 PM (GMT)
Think you have forgot about a certian Mr B. Lee!!!
sasaki_snake - March 26, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
jackie chan y'all. nothing compares to his movies. classics like rush hour.

That's exactely what I was thinking... This is such blasphemy to not include him...
Young Snake - March 26, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
Bruce Lee is a legend, saying otherwise would be pure lying.
I like Jet Li though, he's got some hot skillz. Not to say Jackie Chan doesn't, but Jet is an awesome fighter.
solidfox - March 27, 2008 09:33 AM (GMT)
But adding Bruce Lee takes away from the topic...Its cause Chan and Li are in a new movie together so thats why it is about THEM.
And of course everybody would pick Lee if he was on the list.
iAn - March 27, 2008 01:01 PM (GMT)
They are both great.
If you think Jackie Chan is no good, you have obviously not seen his greater works. Go watch his first few movies when he was in his prime.
It will BLOW.YOU.AWAY.
Here is Jackie Chan preforming 8 of the drunken style forms:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IWX5bH7vOsHere is Jackie Chan doing something you could never do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ljw8sA_FfmYIn fact go and watch the entire movie itself. Its combination of relentless humor, mind blowing choreographing, and fastpaced wit and creativity will leave you speechless. Esp. the part when he is trying to get the piece of meat to his mouth and the teacher keeps preventing him, or when he is trying to escape the house while the teacher effortlessly keeps him in...
Memorable stuff.
Oh, and FHD...
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon did not star Jackie Chan. Jackie Chan has never 'flown' in any of his movies. All of his stunts are done realtime with NO strings, NO CG, and NO stuntdouble.
Everything you see him do, he can replicate in real life.
But on the other hand, Jet Li is a magnificent martial artist as well. All you have to do is watch his Fearless:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxQsDqs97ikLittle movie trivia for ya:
Their new movie coming out is based off of a really famous Chinese folklore written in the 16th century. Me being asian, I am really excited about this new movie... having read some of the original, I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

Yes, I know... That's why my entire post was about Jet Li.
Snake Pliskin - March 27, 2008 04:03 PM (GMT)
Jet Li - Hero & House of Flying Daggers
Jackie Chan - Well, i've never seen a good film by him, yes his early stuff was good. But he doesn't come close to Mr Lee. Rush Hour 1,2,3, Mr Nice Guy, First Strike we are shit!
Bruce Lee - Every film he has done was fantastic. Enter The Dragon is all i need to say.
But since this is about Jet Li & Jackie Chan, my vote would be Jackie Chan.
iAn - March 27, 2008 04:34 PM (GMT)
IMO, his new stuff like Rush Hour will never touch his first few movies.
Webbie - March 27, 2008 05:05 PM (GMT)
If I knew the different disciplines of martial arts that each of them studied in real life and how much time they spend doing it I'd have a much better idea of who'd whoop the other's ass in a real fight. Anybody can be look like a bad ass on camera.
One thing I'm wondering is whether or not Jet Li does all of his own stunts, because I know Jackie Chan does.
Either way, Bruce Lee could probably own them both at the same time.
iAn - March 28, 2008 01:18 AM (GMT)
Well, Jet Li is a real life Martial Arts champion before he was a movie star...
Jackie Chan also started training and excelling in Martial Arts and Gymnastics when he was very very young.
They both have the mileage.
skywalker - March 28, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
Are we talking about who is the best in movies or who is the best in real life? Because Jet Li would demolish Jackie Chan. I dont even want to hear an argument because Chan is a glorified stunt man.
solidfox - March 29, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)
While I am a bigger FAN of Li then Chan...the above comment just blew me away...
Have you EVER seen any of Chan's old movies and 'real' work?? He is utterly amazing...not to mention all the years he was with Bruce as well. Don't let his movies fool you, he is truly one of the greatest and he was 'glorified' long before he was doing his own stunts in movies.
skywalker - March 30, 2008 04:57 AM (GMT)
Just thought I could get a rise out of someone. I have respect for both and I dont know who would win in a fight. I am more familiar with Chan. As actors, Jet Li doesn't really say much, Chan has bigger roles.
iAn - March 30, 2008 05:38 AM (GMT)
If anyone ever calls Rush Hour or Shanghai Knights one of Jackie Chan's better works, I will find where you live and slap you.
Watch the links I posted on page one.
skywalker - March 30, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
Dont worry, I would never do that. I didn't even really like the Rush Hour movies.
Young Snake - March 30, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
The Rush Hour movies were good, but Chan barely uses any of the skills he's known for in those movies.
Jet Li is currently signed for The Mummy 3. As bad as the movie may be, I'm gonna see it, because I can see Jet using some kickass fighting moves.
skywalker - March 30, 2008 05:41 PM (GMT)
Who kill my uncle?
Nice videos Ian. I like the drunken one the best. Chan sure has put on a little mass since then.
I think in a fight between the two it would probably be over in 1 move. Its not as glorified and graceful as it is in the movies. In an actuall fight once one of them hits the ground they would probably not let the other get back up, so it would turn into more of a submission hold/wrestling match.
snakeinthegear - April 2, 2008 02:41 PM (GMT)
They are both great but one on one, Jet Li would murder Chan.
However, Tony Jaa would ass rape both of them at the same time.

I don't know... Jackie Chan in his prime would be suicide. His form and technique is simply flawless.
snakeinthegear - April 3, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
Against Li or Jaa?
Personally, like I said these guys are great but to me, Chan is more of a glorified stuntman. He's got mad skills but I just think Li is better. Li is a much more composed, brutal and dangerous fighter. Jaa on the other hand is in a completey different and superior category.
The Wiseman - April 19, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
Jackie Chan is awesome. Not only does he have all the moves, but he's funny too (admittedly in a corny kinda way). Jet Li does some cool stuff but he's a bit of a wannabe imo.
