Title: Mountain recluse poems

FearHeldDear - March 27, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
Well here's some more spontaneous poems about how disconnected I am from society and wanting to go off and wander in the hills with a pack on my back by myself. This is like Kerouac and Snyder meets ancient Chinese poets. Again, my blog illustrates these better. The first two I wrote a little while ago, and I think after those I'm gonna type up some spontaneous stuff in a similar style, right here. Poetry in real time!

So much of society
goes over my head
I don't care
like Hanshan or
(Cold Mountain)
ancient Chinese recluse
in a past life
or future life
ask me "Why do you
separate yourself from
the world?"
and I will reply
"Because the mule
toils without complaint."

Shambling drifty rockslide
creepy crawl my sweet
silhouette
whatever will I do
with this life?
blast zapped along the ridge
boulder shouts
down the hillside
inside
a replica of school dances
spring flings mean
nothing
to me anyway.

Trickle
of the creek whispers
along a mountainside
I watch from the plateau
nothing -
silence and serenity -
while men writhe and sweat below
in anxiety -
torment -
agh! -
I have nobody
and nothing to bother me.

Li Po never thought
I would make it
to this state
or did he?

Dejected creatures of the pet shop,
run wild!
Maul your tormentors!
Say "no more"!
O you poor souls who
rely on us for life,
and we spit at you,
lock you up,
throw you down,
o why?
I declare you free
to roam the planet
with no inhibitions!
Leave your cooped cells
and come wander among
the foothills
with me.

That last one isn't really along the same lines as the others, but the idea just kind of came to me. I was in a pet store with a couple of my friends yesterday and the whole thing was just depressing, they're really terrible places. I got some pretty strong emotions about that place yesterday, and I just felt like writing something about it. Well, there you have it... I just wrote three poems in about 10 minutes, and I mean they're nothing special, but you know, "first thought, best thought". I'll probably post those on my blog now, and they'll probably look a bit different on there, so go check it out if ya want.

EDIT: Here's another one I wrote when I was putting these up on my blog, and two more that I wrote last night.

My mind is my best friend
quality time with a book
is just as good as a human being
I’d rather sit in the grass
with the sun and the
insects and trees
(occasionally a doe
watches me -
I watch her
cigarette in hand
in silent summer forest)
alone
anyhow.

The rain falls outside
Mother Nature what are you
trying to tell me?

-3/27/08

Well I am
sitting here in my room
(alone again)
listening to the rain
fall against the window -
and I hear voices in it,
sounds so strange -
maybe I should be wary
but it's more like mesmerized -
there's nothing in me but
joy for all living things -
Ah! I'm alive! -
(Spring is finally here again!)
though I battled the cold
and the weather four hours ago,
at 1 a.m. the rain is my friend.

I love stream of consciousness poetry. It's how I write my poems, especially my latest ones, and I love to write it, subconsciously picking out phrases, and then going back over it and discerning all of the different elements within it. Alcoholism has been a big one for me, because I've been interested in addictions and I've been interested in alcohol. Sex, too, plays a big part.

I like these poems. They're an interesting read, and I think it would be advisable for you to just read through them and pick out what certain phrases mean to you. With such an introverted art as poetry, you find that yourself is in your words.
