Title: The Kojima Productions Report
Description: Hosted by Ryan Payton

OcelotSnake - October 2, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
Moderator's Note: This topic has been moved to the MGS4 forum as the majority of the reports are concerned with this game. This forum gets far more traffic than any of the others – so it would get the attention it deserves here and keep people more informed.

In spite of this, please feel free to discuss any of the other games or issues reported in the Podcast. Thank you.

Ryan Payton (Asisstant producer for Kojima Productions) hosts the KP report weekly offering up all the latest inside info on Kojima Productions products including MGS4 and MGO. Each week a new host joins Ryan; with co-hosts ranging from members of the development team (past and present) to the voice actors of Metal Gear Solid.

It's a great way to get any thoughts or questions on Metal Gear, or any other KP developed products, to the team.

You can find previous reports here and the most recent via Ryan's blog on i-revo. If you want to get a question on the report then use the KP mailbox and you may get your questions read on air and answered by the team! Or alternatively you can leave a comment on Ryan's blog after each podcast by signing up here for i-revo.

I'll be updating this topic every week with the latest podcast entry info so you've no excuse :P

Session #86 (<Last Week's - the reports are on a temporary hiatus!)

*Pinned*

This is a great way to keep people informed with the latest news and information.
It’s also in this way that we could get some questions answered on the actual show with reference to MGSForums.

Nice idea, OS.
Do be sure to update it like you said, though.

OcelotSnake - October 5, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the pin Tam ^_^

Session 60 is now online folks. It's similar to last week with additional analysis of the recent TGS MGS4 demo and trailer. Also there's going to be a big announcement next week, anyone care to speculate what it could be? Enjoy.

Tamashi_7 - October 5, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
Wow – awesome Podcast!

I love the fact that they asked about Shadow Moses and Ryan pretty much gives it away when he says about it being probably the biggest spoiler in the trailer which he didn’t want. So yeah – that pretty much confirms it’s Shadow Moses, in my opinion – although, he doesn’t actually say it flat-out; it’s suffice.

Also – those guys aren’t so damn hardcore! I mean, some of the things they’re talking about we knew about fucking ages ago! Then again – not even Payton has comprehensive knowledge when it comes to the Metal Gear series as a whole. Gah. Payton needs to get OS and myself on there – we would totally own. ^_^

I have no idea what Payton is gonna reveal next week – but I can say that I’m looking forward to it. :)

Hell yeah ^_^

I can tell Payton is certainly more keyed up with the canon as the Report/MGS4 development has progressed but he's not exactly savvy with the whole MG mythos. Good report though the Shadow Moses comments had me thinking: SHADOW MOSES ENDING CONFRONTATION CONFIRMED! XD

Helikaon - October 5, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
I think the fact that he dodged the question pretty much confirms the speculation, also

QUOTE (Ryan Payton)
I really did not want that scene in the trailer

and his follow up to that I can't quite remember verbatim, but it was something like:

QUOTE
It's just too much of a spoiler

Any thoughts on what the announcement next week is?

I reckon it's the Worldwide release date and the English demo release.

sadistic_greyfox - October 5, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
Might be possible, If we get a demo I'll go mad.

Atleast one thing was confirmed which I wasn't sure about and that Johnny is the same guy from MGS1 and 2. Sort've makes sense now why he's never in the action with the other guards ^_^ . Still great pod cast as always.

I wonder if MGSF could get some questions to Payton or is he like only on TUS?

Helikaon - October 5, 2007 05:25 PM (GMT)
I think they favor TUS, but I don't see why someone couldn't email questions in and advertise us...

I think it's a nice touch about how Rat Patrol Team 01 have set up radars everywhere and that Johnny doesn't like being called Akiba.

Markthecool - October 5, 2007 08:22 PM (GMT)
Man they posted it a day late and what happen to the TGS MGS4 and MGO videos that supposed to be in yesterday on the PSS, but whatever Nice idea :thumb:

I haven't listen to it yet, I like listening better on my PS3 cause sometimes my sound on my computer can't barely hear KP report.

SolidSnake52 - October 5, 2007 10:23 PM (GMT)
Awesome! Thanks for this :)

rayofdoom - October 5, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
nothing new or interesting in this podcast, apart from a special anouncement next week, it was just continuing the conversation he had with those guys from last week... a bit disapointing if you ask me.

OcelotSnake - October 11, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
New report up guys. Lots of new info offered up in a mailbox focussed report. Some main points:

• Confirmation that an English demo of MGS4 will appear at the 'E for All' expo in LA.

• The location appearing in the MGS4 demo is NOT the holy city of Midina (in Saudi Arabia) - it was a misreporting on the part of 1UP. Thus the location is still unconfirmed.

• Richard Horvitz's has been confirmed (for those who don't already know) as a voice actor. His role is not that of a main character but rather Soldiers (background chatter).

• The MGS4 controls can't be remapped - only the camera view, and some other non-context sensitive controls, are changeable.

L1quidus - October 11, 2007 11:10 PM (GMT)
I honestly hope the "secret" is a PSN demo of MGS4, I'd much rather have that than a release date.

OcelotSnake - October 12, 2007 10:12 AM (GMT)
That was the secret? Listen to #61 and be enlightened :)

Helikaon - October 12, 2007 10:13 AM (GMT)
Psssh secret my arse... we already knew they were going to be there...

Damn KP and it's inability to give a date!

color - October 15, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
What did he say was the key word?

Helikaon - October 16, 2007 07:55 AM (GMT)
Logan

OcelotSnake - October 24, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
Just updated with #63 - I'll give a brief summery once I've listened to it again later. Oh and you people disgust me! Where are the comments on last weeks podcast dammit :P

Helikaon - October 27, 2007 07:19 PM (GMT)
No new stuff <_<

Just going over what we already know, still it's good to get opinions from game manufacturers

Still no release date though.

sadistic_greyfox - October 27, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
Yeah just a slight Mention of the demo over the PSN. I guess we are indeed going to see one. I am so happy  .

DrunkMario - October 30, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
Hopefully they talk more about Metal Gear in the next podcast. <_<

Portable Ops numero dos FTW.

rayofdoom - October 31, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
KP report 64 is up

OcelotSnake - October 31, 2007 03:13 PM (GMT)
^Indeed. The new report is up guys - shorter than usual due to some technical problems.

A quick summery of the report:

• The secret project being worked on by Logan is the introductory movie to MGS4. Payton claims it's has an 'origional' concept and what there doing with it has 'never been attempted in games before'. More info will be released on it at a later date.

• The demo shown at 'TGS07' and 'E for All' is about 20 mins into the game - it will be the initial stage of the game.

• Payton address concerns about MGS4's gameplay direction - Payton claims that the team isn't turning it into a generic 3rd person game with stealth elements. The game will remain focussed on stealth over run and gun action. The team have reviewed the way the demo was played at 'E for All' and are tweaking minor aspects of the game so as to emphasize the stealth elements of the title over those of pure action.

• Payton says how the stress meter effects gameplay won't be exactly revealed till later however he mentions that they have looked at real psychological of battle on soldiers to incorporate into the design of the mechanic and that it will negatively effect accuracy and induce fatigue (presumably like stamina?).

• Still possible to get through the game without killing anyone. MGS4 retains the 'pacifistic undertone' of the previous titles.

• Perhaps the most intresting tidbit - Payton says in an upcoming podcast he will be discussing questions, with game translator John Ricardi, regarding concerns with the localization of the game (*looks to Tam* XD).

• Payton says that KP's going on a 'media blackout' regarding MGS4. There will be no more new trailers etc before MGS4's release (for those unaware).

Out of all the new information to cover I find it strange that he's not even bothered to mention the second delay.

Helikaon - October 31, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
He probably recorded it before Konami announced it, I'm still purplussed as to why Konami and not KP announced it...

Anyways, didn't notice any thing new other than the Stress thing.

what are you on about? KP is a part of konami and it was posted on the KP site

here: KP site

Helikaon - October 31, 2007 06:19 PM (GMT)
Yes but Kojima Productions is the team who are developing it, surely the developer should be the one to make the major announcements?

OcelotSnake - October 31, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
Yes and no. Despite KP possessing a degree of autonomy they are still a branch of Konami and their products are not only published but obviously funded by Konami so they not responsible for every press release. Similar to EA handles most of their titles created by out-house developers.

either way you are wrong because they did announce it on the KP site check the link i listed just above in my previous post

What do you think the localization of the game would entail?

rayofdoom - November 8, 2007 05:17 PM (GMT)
KP report 65 is up ... with john riccardi and answering some questions, as well as talking about mexican food in Japan???!!!

just talks about other games, and answers some questions. no talk of localization as previously anounced. (maybe in future podcast, who knows)

some points:
- Gekkou <<< will be spelled like that, it means moon light in japanese, but snake calls them lizards as a joke (taking the piss).
- opening movie wont contain any spoilers.
- no new demo for PSN in the works.
- you cannot fully ally your self will PMC as you do with militia. (this is somewhat disappointing)

Helikaon - November 8, 2007 05:57 PM (GMT)
So they've removed the "sides" option...

Goddamn it, I wanted to support the PMC...

It's GEKKOU (G-E-K-K-O-U), I was right, spell it right nubs, it's not GEKKO or GECKO or GECKOU,

it's GEKKOU

Blue Phoenix - November 8, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
thats a pain in the ass... i was looking forward to being able to play through once and side with malitia and then play through again and side withPMCs. grrrrr

.Shpow - November 8, 2007 07:02 PM (GMT)
I think you can with certain PMCs. Due to the fact that some PMCs are owned by your enemies, and with SOP, they can automatically know you're an enemy.

rayofdoom - November 8, 2007 07:17 PM (GMT)
the PMCs overall are owned my Liquid, so i think the same applies to them too. even if you help them out they will still shoot you! the only difference will be that the militia will also shoot you so your screwed.

i think they changed the side taking thing because of feedback they got from "Negative players" comments. the same players or people who post comments like "yay, we finally get to kill Arabs and blablabla" IMHO i think thats what changed their minds about it. so if you are one of those people... thanks guys you just changed a big part of the MGS4 experience. if only youd have kept your "racist pig" mouthes shut.
(speaking generally of course and not aimed at anyone in particular)

redfox45 - November 8, 2007 09:13 PM (GMT)
I would have gone against the PMC's all the way through anyway, no big deal as far as I am concerned.

sadistic_greyfox - November 8, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
If I'm not mistaken though I don't think all the PMC's are being run by Liquid, and at different loactions we may be able to still play on their side. the interview was pretty cool although it's sad that they really aren't considering making a demo.

Blue Phoenix - November 9, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)

same here but id have still liked to have the option and variety

rayofdoom - November 15, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
kp report 66 is up, talks about MGS mobile, assassins creed n answers emails n so on

Shammien - November 15, 2007 11:34 PM (GMT)
"• Payton says that KP's going on a 'media blackout' regarding MGS4. There will be no more new trailers etc before MGS4's release (for those unaware)."

Ok... what kind of updates are we going to get then? :< Anyways, seems to me like KP aren`t even sure about what they are doing:p delay, changing game to make it more stealthy (which is good), but they should have known earlier...

Helikaon - November 15, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
Media blackout my arse, if Kojima wants a media blackout he needs to lock Ryan Payton in a clear plastic cage, with no form of communication to the outside world.

I've given up on him, I view his ideas as the sole reason Guns of the Patriots has been delayed not once, but twice now.
