Saw this last night, while I'm not a big fan of the first, it was still pretty entertaining. This one looks much better, more fighting and all will draw more attention. Like to see how he compares to such a quick nemeses.

I never saw the first one. Does anyone highly recomend it our is it just a decent film?

I'd say just a decent film. I only watched it cause it was late...nothing else on. You know those types of movies. Decent only cause it was the only thing on to entertain ya. But then again, I was never into that type of movies. To me it was like the Van Helsen and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen esque movie.

I would say Hellboy was highly superior than Van Helsing and LXG.

Those two are just visual effects driven movies with a mediocre plot.

Hellboy, on the other hand, is more character driven. All the characters are very 3 dimensional, esp. with Hellboy trying to win back Liz Sherman who on the other hand is very reluctant and scared of her powers. Then comes in the new guy John Myers who also begins a likening to Liz, throwing everyone's relationship off balance.

You can tell that creating a solid believable characters with a great backstories and individual objectives was Guillermo del Toro's biggest goals, and he accomplished that.

It looks like now that they have established a foothold and already dealt with fleshing out the characters, Hellboy 2 is going to deal more with bigger fight scenes and better stories.

I enjoyed Van Helsing because I think Kate Beckinsale is a hottie! But I know exactly what you mean when you say they had no back story. I like 3 demensional charicters to build plot. Otherwise its just computer guys making a movie.

I CAN'T WAIT to see this movie! Shame I'll be on vacation when it's released in the UK. But what the hell I'll sit inside instead of the beach to see this movie.

I LOVED the first movie! One of my all time favourites. Ron Perlman is just AWESOME as Hellboy! ^_^ B)

Hellboy was quite a descent movie, but nothing I found special. Still, looking forward to seeing this.

The first movie was quite good, not spectacular. I'll be seeing the second one anyway, the trailer looks really good.
