Title: Kingdom Hearts

Well, I know Metal Gear is all the rage right now (as it should be) but I've been meaning to start some threads of my own. So why not start with ones about games I love. This thread can be used to talk about anything KH related. I suppose I'm just curious to see how many fans are around.
Here's a small take of the game from yours truly..
Kingdom Hearts is my third favorite video game of all time. I have always enjoyed "crossover franchises," but the makers of Kingdom Hearts must have realized that a simple crossover was not enough. Kingdom Hearts is, when you move beyond the crossover aspect, a game that assumes you are familiar with the workings of the universe. It then starts off by almost immediately introducing the concepts of the multiverse and what exists beyond even it.
But there's more...
As the game progresses, and you learn the details of these things, you begin to learn even more. At first, it seems like Sora and Co. are merely experiencing new events together, but at last the game introduces concepts more complicated than all of existence combined. The secrets of the heart, and what Sora's heart does to earn the right to weild the power of heart against its antithesis. Sora even gets to deliver a beautiful speech about what really has made his heart stronger over his journey. Then it all comes together and Sora must overcome the apparent commander of the darkness, and struggle to find some way to restore the light to the many worlds. They were connected by the darkness. Can they also be connected by the light, once the darkness has been defeated?
Kingdom Hearts is a beautiful game which adults can learn from as easily as kids. Yet it's spirit of optimism and continual exploration generate an absolutely wonderful mood throughout the entire journey.
In the end, we don't know what happens. Not to Sora, not to Kairi, Riku, Mickey or any of them. As in real life, we don't know how it's going to end. All we know is that it's going to be one big adventure.

I never got to the end unfortunatly, got really stuck at one point and gave up, was a really good game though!

Tis the topic where we are actually supposed to talk about it (you'll see many discussions of the game in the past in there) but since nobody ever uses it anymore I'll post a few things here I guess.
I've always revered this game as one of my top 5s and part two in my top 10s. Before playing it many people like to cut it down cause they'd think it will be a 'kiddie' game so to speak. But I knew it wasn't going to be anything of the sorts.
The storyline is very beautiful here and I love the merge of characters. Being both a big FF fan and Disney fan, I think they did a great job. Two of the biggest entertainment companies, Disney dominate the movies and Square the games, coming together...I just knew greatness was ahead.
I love the merger of music as well...its like the songs were created just for the movements of the characters in game. Just like the ending of both part one and two. Watch em again and you'll see the characters movie with beats...then when they stop moving the music stops for a second as well.
Endings mean everything to me and the endings from both part one and two are what will always stick out to me in video game histories. Very well done.

Goddamn, this is one of my favourite games, too. I loved both of them, completed pretty much 100% (beating Sephiroth etc- though I hate the fucking Gummi Ship missions). I can't wait for number 3, is there any word on it?

Loved the first one, although I actually haven't finished it yet (I'm at like the very end, I just stopped playing for some reason a long time ago and haven't picked it up since), so I haven't played the second yet either. It's on my "to-do" list.

I actually just don't like it. I've only played 2, and I was just disappointed across the board. My arm hurt after 6 hours of pressing the damned X button over and over again!
I know there's an RPG depth to it, but sometimes it's just so easy you don't need anything else except one arm and at least one finger. The story itself was the only thing that kept me going on really, the battles themselves were structured nicely, but it all falls flat with the brain dead button mashing. I don't want to sound like a hater, but this game is a disappointment in my book -_-

Play Sephiroth and then say its easy.
KH is one of the best games ever, I can't really be bothered right now to express how much I like this game and how good it is so i'll just say one word, awesome.
Oh, and i'm pretty sure there is a Kingdom Hearts topic out there as well but it doesn't matter

Indeed. At the time, I had not played much final fantasy, but I recognized the characters when I came across them. I think that added to the experience for me, encountering these cool characters and learning about them for the first time. Amd Disney- I've always been a fan of disney and journeyng to those familiar worlds was bliss.

I don't think so. But I hope it comes to the PS3.

Heh, well if I played the second one first I might just be in the same boat as you. To me the first one is superior and starts things off for the series. The combat is not as sophisticated as the second but it makes up for it with story, level design and characters. You should try that one.

That game series was the butter to my bread for all things shiny and cartoony. Any game where you can kick ass and still giggle shamlessly because of something Goofy did is all right by me.
However, I can't beat Chain of Memories and I'm starting to get pissed off. Not like Japan's refusal to release Final Mix+ out of Japan was bad enough...

Hahaha, play Sephiroth in both 1 and two and I doubt you'd say the same thing of the games difficultly.
Anyway, I prolly wouldn't like it as much if I played part two first anyway. Thats like jumping into the middle of a book in which you've missed all the build up and information you needed.
Playing part one all the way through changes part two dramatically.

I thought that Kingdom Hearts II was fun, to say the least. But I didn't appreciate the story as much as the first. The organization to me was a let-down. They were all kind of stupid and just popped up with little to no purpose but to initiate a boss battle (Axel being an exception). They just weren't evil enough.
The scenes with Riku and Roxas weren't that well planned either. They could have done more with the whole blindfold thing.
Disney was great and Final Fantasy more involved. But to me it just felt like something was missing.
On the plus side, the Nobody concept was kind of neat. And I liked Roxas and the whole opening in Twilight Town. Then Sora came back and started jumping in circles with Donald and Goofy. Hmm...was it just me or was Sora given an extra dose of "I'm the good guy!" in this game...

Yeah, Kingdom Hearts is one of my favourite games, I have played the first game to death becuase of the story, it's just fantasic (Being a fan of Disney and knowing most of the characters from Final Fantasy). The combat is much more fluid in the 2nd one, but gets repetative after a while. The heartless battle is simply amazing (Kingdom Hearts 2) and I love how Maleficent fights the Nobodies at the end, having a sort of 'truce' with Sora.

That would be a SPOILER. :thumb: Please use tags for such things.

Both great games. I loved them both.
The thing that kinda made 2 lacking some stuff was:
1. Too easy
2. Not as good story as 1
3. Not enough secret bosses(unless you off course count Final Mix)
I still prefer 2, but 1 was more epic.

I love Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 I'm ready for info on the third one.
