Title: "You haven't seen anything yet"
Description: More of Shane's impressions
DrunkMario - April 6, 2008 06:41 AM (GMT)
Shane from 1up and EGM, who has already gotten to play through the entire game at Konami, gives more of his impressions in this podcast. Also breaks into a little bit of game play details.
http://download.gamevideos.com/Podcasts/040408.mp3Fast forward to around the 50 minute mark for the MGS4 discussion.
Excerpts:
QUOTE
"You have not seen anything yet" (plot and cinematic wise, talking to fans who have watched all of the trailers)
"Kojima was not lying when he said he was going to answer ALL questions" Shane said he would be satisfied if he never made another Metal Gear.
-"Some of the cut scenes are really long, but one cut scene in particular is the best ever in video game history."
-"You'll be surprised by the nature of the story and how its told." When asked he said there wasn't any crazy-crazy twists like the ones at the end of MGS2.
-"There are about a 1/4 less codec calls compared to previous Metal Gears, the story is told more in a visual fashion."
-"In terms of usability, the controls are much easier. Very refined and westernized. Intimidation factor is down, anyone can play the game."
-Good sense of freedom and options in the game play
-The reason why they brought all the reporters to Konami to play the game three months early, is so they could get "prof" feed back about what needs to be tweaked etc.
-Said it was unprecedented event. And if Kojima Productions utilizes all the feed back given by this "gaming elite", then the game will be incredible.

I wasted my time typing this, but you might wanna give it a listen just to here the comments in context.

Whatever I'll just get rid of it.

The topic is great. Not many interesting news than the ones we already know but... fair enough. Good job mate.
Although I dont know about that picture you are talking about.

That is exactly what I wanted to hear.

Really? That's a rather bold statement... but I don't really doubt it. Nice.

I'm intrigued...

Hmm... I'm not sure whether or not I agree with this... but I can see how it would help the game... but that means less information... ugh...
Still, as we've seen in gameplay videos, we can be playing and listening to Otacon through the Codec at the same time. So maybe that's what will be happening (I hope so).

That is very comforting to hear. Kojima and the team and really putting in the hard yards to perfect this game.

Already posted
here (but nevermind) :P
ALSO WHO CARES ABOUT THE REST WHEN SIXAXIS BOOB CONTROL HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!Just one more thing: He also said you can't physically ring someone via Codec (which is a first in MGS). All the available Codec's will be incoming - not really sure how I feel about that.
Timshel - April 6, 2008 12:09 PM (GMT)
It's better than Snake deciding to call up his pals at HQ during the middle of an intense battle just to hear another long spiel from his superiors.
"Hey, I'm being shot at by a boss right now. Would you mind giving be a 10 minute discussion as to this guy's history, weaknesses, fashion style and favorite color?"
Yeah... I'm glad they're cutting down on those annoying calls. :P
jonhou - April 6, 2008 12:31 PM (GMT)
WHAT??? You can't use the codec unless someone is calling you?!!
That just blows big time...

Are you serious? Are you possitive about this?
Oh man. Sorry to tell you but this sucks! :(
What if you want to save or ask for a hint or some other info?
What do you do then?
If this is true and the official game is really like this I'll get pretty disapointed. :(

What is the meaning of this post?
I just don't get it.
Mikey - April 6, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
That it's Ryan Paton's fault. This can't be true though, how do you save if you can't use the codec?
Helikaon - April 6, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
He doesn't mean that you can't use the CODEC, he's means you wouldn't want to.
He doesn't say in the podcast that you can't physically use the CODEC, he does however say that the majority of the information is given visually.
Hippysnake - April 6, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
Valid point. As can be seen in the following screenshot from the GT gameplay preview, there is a codec screen and a 'go to codec' option.
If you can't physically make calls, it wouldn't be much use would it?

EDIT: Also-
Notice the 'SEND' command assigned to 'O'
DrunkMario - April 6, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
About the codec calls, while I can definitely see the advantage in cutting them down, I actually enjoyed them no matter how long they could get in previous Metal Gears. Well, when playing through the game again for a third or fourth time they can be annoying and I skipped through them, and when a (non-Metal gear fan) friend watches me play the game I skipped through them some. As long as there is still plenty of information to bite on to telling the story in a more visual fashion sounds great.

That cut scene is pretty cool, but it all broils down to opinion. I personally liked the Raiden scenes in the trailers better then that.

But I love annoying everyone with the CODEC
And this does not help my already through the roof anticipation.
HolySpawn - April 6, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
If there is no codec available i will be seriously pissed off. I wanna annoy Otacon a lot more.
DrunkMario - April 6, 2008 08:41 PM (GMT)
Did anyone catch the part where he said at once point in the game, you could control boobs with the sixaxis function?
*thinks of Naomi

May the Force be with the plot.

I don't know what he meant by that, perhaps.
Maybe controlling how they bounce, while the gal is talking or doing something. Could certainly make a more enjoyable cut scene, if what she was talking about was boring.
Solidcon - April 6, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
^I'm having some Dead or Alive nightmares here, but I'll just have to wait see before I jump to conclusions.

The controls were never a problem. Unless he's comparing the controls to Portable OPs, then I see no reason to call them intimidating.
Draketopher - April 6, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
So, from what I understand, Theres manupulateable boobs, andddd you won't have to use teh codec to find otu what's going on? I never had to do that. You just listen the first time. I don't like the 1up guys.

Sadly not...
QUOTE (Shane B. on 1UP Yours)
Things like CODEC like, you, you can't even send a CODEC call. This is the first Metal Gear Solid where you can't type in a number and send a Codec cause' there's no reason to. Like, you get Codec messages when you need to but, I'd say, like, a 4th as many CODEC's as in previous games.
Whilst that could be a cock up on his part I doubt it. The game has been through a lot of iterations and those screens, that HS provided, from Gametrailers are of either the TGS/E for All builds, which were months ago now. I'd rather it not be true and I'm hoping that Payton might address it in next weeks report.
@Draketopher: Seriously did you even listen to the podcast?

I skipped around it. I didn't have a lot time to listen to it. I looked at other posts and gathered what I missed from the podcast. Sorry. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to ask questions on a forum. I'll make sure of that on my next posts.

Shit...
*shakes fist*
I need some answers. I'm kind of hoping that that prick didn't try to use the CODEC and has got the wrong idea, because if that is true then thats a bastion of the MGS series destroyed...
jonhou - April 7, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
I'm lost... there's a send option at the codec screen, but you can't use that option  ?????
Draketopher - April 7, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
Everyone, send a question regarding the Codec to Payton so we can get some straight awnsers about this damned change.
Helikaon - April 7, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
Just sent a question ^_^
QUOTE
We recently heard from Shane from 1up (who was part of the Nasu Bootcamp) in a podcast that the ability to send messages with the CODEC has been removed from the game. Is this true? and what are your motivations behind this departure from the norm with MGS 4? Your going to be annoying a hell of a lot of hardcore MGS fans if this is true
Lets hope the bugger actually answers one of my questions, I've sent dozens over the past few months about the European Beta and MGS 4. Not one reply...
Mikey - April 7, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
I sent a question asking about the codec, but the more questions the more likely it'll get asked...

The SixAxis is used in MGS4. I read it on a journalists article that played MGS4 through the end. He was one of the 16 journalists at Nasu Camp...
QUOTE (The Metal Gear Solid 4 Boot Camp in Nasu @ Japan by Billy Berghammer)

I sent questions aswell. I really hope he addresses this. I'm really concerned and hope that this was just something they took out of the build they tested. =\
