Title: Why DMC4 failed for me
Description: now that I think about it...

iAn - April 10, 2008 05:12 AM (GMT)
I have been thinking... its come to my knowledge that DMC4 did not really meet my expectations and has even failed in some instances...

The biggest mistake was pulling the ol' Raiden switch. I felt cheated out of my Dante game.

The second was the shitty Japanese influenced love song "Shall Never Surrender". That song makes this game look like its for pussies and makes the game look soft.

The third mistake was making it the plot based around love and cuddly emotions. Where was my "This is Dante, and I don't give a shit" attitude? God damn it... Nero and his love interest deserves to be in some damn anime or manga rather than a DMC game.

DMC was originally about a badass half demon character who runs around killing the shit out of things and having a arrogant attitude.

Not about no stupid ass love story. Leave that for Final Fantasy or some shit.

I mean, DMC3 was a relationship driven storyline, but at least it was about Dante's badass samurai twin who also killed the shit out of things. It wasn't no love story.

Fourth mistake was the cutscenes where shit. Where was those crazy ass DMC3 cutscenes with wild choreographed fights?

I mean, every once in a while there where some cool stuff, but nothing like in DMC3.

So there you have it.

'Shall Never Surrender' was a good song in my opinion. But that's just me. Though I agree with feeling cheated out of Dante for half of the game.

Nothing will ever be able to surpass DMC3. If you go comparing them just like that, of course 4 will be inferior.

The Raiden switch is kind of annoying, but it's nothing to lose your head over.

I didn't even care about the song. Usually if I don't like a game's sound track I listen to my mp3 player

And the reason for the whole love story is that one of the creators girlfriends bitched the hell out of him. Thus to shut her up he made the story this way.

And... the cutscenes weren't shit. They weren't as good as DMC3 but still don't deserve to be called ''shit''.

I haven't played the whole thing, but what I've seen is enough to determine that it's a good game. You should just realize that nothing will ever be able to top DMC3.

Tbh the only parts of the cut-scenes i watch was the fighting cut scenes, most of the rest bored the hell out of me.

P.S. anybody seen yatzee's (spelling?) review of the game?
I'll post a link later.

That review was absolutly brilliant, and I liked DMC4, and I still thought that review was superb. I havn't played DMC3 so I can't compare them, better than DMC2 though I thought

This is the review you are talking about

I was kinda already expecting it to be worse than DMC3 judging the material I saw. and yeah, that review is pretty good...

yeah, i just got back from school lol, thanks Muikuli for posting the link,

I agree with all above, but I still find it very enjoyable. As long as you don't pay attention to the story as much it's a great game.

I loved dmc4, but i do agree with you that the game was waaaayyy too soft, dmc1, 3 and especially 2 were so demonic and true to the style of the game, and I was surprised with the lighter style in dmc4. Also that song was uber gay. Other than those two things, I dont agree with you.

The Passion - April 11, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Your right those things did make the game worse(except for the one about the song the song is ok) Ian but I still throughly enjoyed playing the game nonetheless.

The Snake - April 27, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
Well i haven't play the game but i think that DMC3,2,1 are better cos i've heard that DMC4 is was easy than the first three parts.

Meryl_silverburgh - April 27, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
well i kinda think the 1st one was the best one.........but in 4 i kinda like the ability to buy back or sell a skill you bought just incase its crap

g-fox - April 27, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
i liked playing as nero,i didn't have a problem with the song either,i just ignored it
the main reason i played it was for the story, which i didn't have a problem with either, but i thought the gameplay was old, they just recycled what they did in the past 3
i don't hate the game,but i don't really like it either

i nver got a chance to play it, my broher played it he said it only took him 9 hrs to beat and as soon as he beat it he turned it back in, so i take it from that he didnt enjoy it that much

I still wait for the PC version to come out, so after I pay it I'll give my opinion.

WhySoSerious - May 4, 2008 02:19 AM (GMT)
DMC4 failed for me too. I dont really get into the games where you can only do so much. You can only go one way to get to where you need to go it makes the game less challenging to me.

iAn - May 6, 2008 06:58 AM (GMT)
Game would have been so much better if it was like this:

Breasts solve everything.

Anyways, I didn't really enjoy DMC 4. It was a good game, but it felt like something was missing. The plot didn't engage me as much as the first and third game did, Nero felt like Raiden and the ending was rather predictable. To be honest it felt like DMC 2 again.
