While the big Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots news today might seem like the details of the standard and limited editions of the games and their price, the real news seems to be that as of today Konami is planning on selling the Limited Edition version of the game only through GameStop.

That's right, no Wal-Mart, no Target, no Best Buy, no GameCrazy.

This backs up tips we received late last week that GameCrazy stores have been canceling their limited edition MGS preorders.

While the release is pretty straight forward about this, saying the game will only be available in North America on June 12 through GameStop, I actually called to verify and was told that as of right now they have no plans on selling it anywhere else.. in North America. ever.

The release does also detail that the standard edition of Metal Gear Solid 4 will sell for $60, while the Limited Edition, which includes exclusive artwork by Yoji Shinkawa and a bevy of other goodies, will sell for $85, Konami announced today. Both go on sale on June 12.

Konami also announced their pre-order program, which will give customers who pre-order the game at select stories a copy of the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD while supplies last.

"As the most anticipated game to be released for the PLAYSTATION®3 system this year, we wanted to make sure that no fan of Metal Gear Solid would be disappointed with the amount of content and gameplay at their disposal," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.

Hit the jump for the break down of each version:

METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS STANDARD EDITION: $59.99
Marking the return of Hideo Kojima's legendary tactical espionage action series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots features a cinematic experience and visual masterpiece that will redefine this landmark franchise as a revolutionary game for the PLAYSTATION®3 system. The game is the final chapter in the saga of Solid Snake which sends him around the world in pursuit of his arch nemesis, Liquid Ocelot. Armed with new gadgets and abilities, Solid Snake must shift the tides of war into his favor, using the chaos of the battlefield to infiltrate deep into enemy territory. In his globetrotting final mission, Snake must sneak deep into enemy locations in the Middle East, South America, and other corners of the earth to foil Liquid Ocelot's. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots includes Metal Gear Online "Starter Pack", which is the full and complete multiplayer component of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS LIMITED EDITION: $84.99
Featuring collectible packaging with exclusive artwork by famed Kojima Productions illustrator Yoji Shinkawa, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition will contain everything that is included with the Standard Edition as well as an additional Blu-ray disc featuring two "making of" documentaries. The documentaries will include extensive interviews with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Soundtrack CD. The Limited Edition will be available exclusively at GameStop.

METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS PRE-SELL PROGRAM
A special pre-sale program of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be offered at participating retailers. This pre-sell entitles customers that pre-order either edition, a copy of the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD (while supplies last). Featuring extensive original video content the DVD primarily focuses on the interconnected history between all of the "Snakes": Big Boss (Naked Snake), Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and of course, Solid Snake. The DVD also contains a compendium of the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trailers. Additionally, each DVD allocated during this pre-order period will contain a unique voucher code that will enable the consumer to download the Metal Gear Online Beta. The download of the Beta will be available from April 17th to May 5th and the gameplay will be available from April 21st to May 5th.

Liquidon Snake - April 10, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
Man, did I luck out or what? I just pre-ordered a limited edition at gamestop two days ago.

jonhou - April 10, 2008 07:24 PM (GMT)
So only North America will get the LE!?!?!?!?!??!?!?
.............................
.............................
.............................

This is what makes me hate living in Europe.

MGS. - April 10, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
What the...? And how are we supposed to get the limited edition here in Europe? I searched everywhere in my city and every online store in my country and noone could pre-order it. And now they tell me not only that I cant find it in my own country but also nowhere else in Europe? I am really pissed of! That dessision sucks!

KALASHsixtynine - April 10, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Wow, Konami really screwed over everyone else...

I feel for you guys in EU!

jonhou - April 10, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
Phew... my head has cooled down a bit.
I guess I can always import the LE, but I don't really know any sites to buy from (except ebay.....)

rayofdoom - April 10, 2008 07:50 PM (GMT)
looks cool

where is the goddamn Euro version? im gonna go bomb KONAMI headquarters!

heres the official link: playstationBlog

Helikaon - April 10, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
And this my European friends is what makes PS3 so damn good. Just import it, it's not hard, theres hundreds of retailers that ship to Europe from the US and guess what, GameStop is one of them.

Plus eBay.

But I have to say I feel let down and rather discriminated. I also feel bad for Japan, as it seems they aren't getting it either.

I'll second that.

Where the fuck is our information!?

We've had no info on Saga Vol.2, MGS4 Bundle Packs or/and MGS4 Limited Edition. We may have the simultaneous release but it still seems like yet again Konami has screwed us Europeans.

I went into Game and Gamestation and they still don't know when the game is coming out let alone any LE or Saga (and across the pond they're already getting their Saga DVD's). Grrrr.

If Payton doesn't address this in the next KP Report I will start sending hate mail.

Exactly, you guys can import it! I always seem to forget PS3 doesn't have region locks on games...

But besides that, Why is Konami doing this to EU?

rayofdoom - April 10, 2008 08:17 PM (GMT)
its not that simple to import... well it is kinda, if i do get the US LE MGO wont work for us in the UK if its the US edition.

ill wait till info is out before i go a step ahead of my self, i will buy standard EU/PAL MGS4 then if it comes to it and indeed we wont be getting a LE i will just have to buy it after i complete the game then sell the US copy on ebay. mix and match

Thanks dude for this but I just cant stand looking anymore of the Limited Edition now that I know that isnt coming in Europe. I just cant...

Mix emotions... sorrow :( ... and anger  ...

What were they thinking? Are they serious?
From Europe and Japan they could make millions of dollars and they simply ruined it?
I just cant understand the companies anymore.

Yeah, importing is a great thought! But if the idiots in GameStop.com dont include Greece in their countries section how am I supposed to? Jesus Christ!

Roy Campbell - April 10, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
Now hold on. As pissed off as I am, there is always the hope EU will get a Limited Edition MGS4. Now, as stated, it won't be this Limited Edition, but who is to say Konami wont make a Limited Edition for the EU? I mean, they have unexpectedly given the EU the MGO beta.

DrunkMario - April 10, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)

The LE box art looks really awesome, glad I payed the extra bucks for it.

Outer-Heaven - April 11, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Hopefully the extra content on the LE is worth the $90 I paid for.

Draketopher - April 11, 2008 01:16 AM (GMT)
I'm glad that the LE box is awesome. i hope it's still metal like originally thought out. Pretty sweet.

FROG6 - April 11, 2008 01:20 AM (GMT)
I'm actually kind of relieved... I did not want to pay $150~ bucks for the LE here in Australia. Now I have an excuse.

Even though our currency is basically the same as the US's now, the price of products hasn't changed. So don't worry about how much you guys have to pay for games, just think of us poor Aussies.

MGS4 is $120 from EBGames, and $110 everywhere else.

Sure it's going to get released on June 12th (We hope) but that seems like the only thing that's multi-region about it. What about all this extra stuff?

VII - April 11, 2008 01:24 AM (GMT)
looks like ill have to be saving up my money now..or hopefully gamestop still takes gamecube games lol

You have just shat on my hopes and dreams. Reading that has actually made me angry. I would gladly pay $90 for the Document of MGS4 on it's own, let alone the other stiff on the second BluRay.

Solid Snakey - April 11, 2008 10:05 AM (GMT)
Oh man...I don't get...what's the point in selling it just in NA???

haha damn straight!
it is bullshit however if us europeans dont get a limited edition, hopefully they will announce something soon! as soon as they do im heading down to my local HMV and upgrading my pre-order (why HMV u ask, i believe they always do special edition sleeve's with theyre mgs pre-orders, or so they say)

Draketopher - April 11, 2008 12:50 PM (GMT)
When I read that I felt so bad for you EU gamers. But I guess it could be worse. The PS3 could not be region free and you would really be SOL then.

jonhou - April 11, 2008 12:53 PM (GMT)
Still if we Europea games import we won't be able to play MGO, so we are fucked....

Draketopher - April 11, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
I thought I heard that MGO was a region free game?

Young Snake - April 11, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
I'm still gonna call my local Gamestop and see when and if Europe are getting any LE versions of MGS4. If not, I've got an uncle in the military, and his group is sailing to the US. He's gonna be there from May to the end of June.

What's that line the goes over Ocelot and Snake's face on the cover?

That's where the box is going to open. Where the line is the top of the box. It comes off and the game and extra DVD are inside.

So, If I've got this straight?

If us UK gamers import MGS4, we won't be able to play the Blu-Ray movie extras? and also not be able to download MGO extras from the UK PS store because the add on's will not be from the same region as the disc?

Please correct me if I'm wrong..

I think the PS3 is region free so I think you CAN play NTSC games. I'm not sure. You might want to ask someone wiht mroe info on it. But I do believe I'm right.

Liquidus_Snake - April 13, 2008 02:17 PM (GMT)
I just can't decide..

As I'm from the UK, I don't know weither to risk splashing out on the Limited Edition from Gamestation, or purchuse the standard edition from here at home

When of course the Limited Edition could mean I couldn't download any add ons for MGO from the UK store (possibly the US store?)

I also heard from a mate that the MGO beta will be free on the PSN store this Thursday? (Simular to the Lost Planet Online Demo?) I was sure this was bullshit as I belived it was Preordering to get Beta. Any one confirm this for me?

jonhou - April 13, 2008 02:24 PM (GMT)
I believe it has been caonfirmed. You can download the beta next Thursday. It was only North America who had to preoder to get into the beta. Everyone from Europe (if they have a PS3 and a hook up to the internet) can play the beta.

Thats really cool man, thanks. I assume that means the new look for the PS store will be ready aswell by Thursday..

I was never to bothered about the Beta, however since its a free easy download, I will be sure to spend pointless hours on it..

Also, I am correct about about the Limited Edition? If I purchase the US limited edition..I cannot download MGO extras from the UK store?

jonhou - April 13, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
I don't know about that, but I'm waiting to hear something about a LE for Europe.

Of course, A Europeon LE would be alot more helpful and easier..

On the other hand, I tend to find the US Limited Editions far more superior..

I suppose I will have to wait and see..

jerihalliwell - April 13, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
yeah the ps3 is region free

Draketopher - April 13, 2008 03:31 PM (GMT)
Yeah, so those EU fans can import the LE but someone pointed out that maybe MGO wouldn't work. I'm not sure. Anyone know about this? I don't think it's true, though.

No.

MGO will work. It's just the add-ons that are downloaded from the UK store will not work on an Amercian disc and Vice-Versa.

So, my fear is that if I ordered Limited Edition from the US (where its exculusive at the moment). I will not be able to buy add ons to MGO from UK store, because in thoery MGO will be Amercian copy and not visable to download add ons from Europe..

Everybody with me?

KingBoss - April 17, 2008 12:48 PM (GMT)
hey is australia part of Eu. Cause i can tell u now the the LE mgs4 is coming out in australia. This guy at EB confirmed it today and he said that it includes a small snake figurine. Thats all he said lol.

Helikaon - April 17, 2008 12:56 PM (GMT)
Australia is not part of the EU...

But it is a PAL region.

ulitmadream - April 17, 2008 10:01 PM (GMT)
The UK got The Making of MGS2 DVD free with MGS2, i find it hard to believe there going to leave the LE out of the UK, I just dont understand, Well if someone posts the Documentarys on Youtube or Gametrailers for me to download ill accept that, i wont give them the satisfaction of importing the US version, i just dont see why i should have to go to such efforts while the US just have it stocked in every store.
