Title: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Description: WTF??

Mortal Kombat is getting a major makeover. For the first original installment on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Midway is not only tinkering with some of the fundamental features of the long-running fighting franchise, it's going to feature a crossover cast of characters pulled from the pages of DC Comics.

That means Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will feature Sub-Zero and Scorpion taking on the likes of Superman and Batman. Other characters from each universe have yet to be confirmed for the game, but Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon told GameSpot the developers were looking for counterparts between the two brands.

The new characters won't be the only changes to the Mortal Kombat formula. Comic fans would no doubt cry foul if Superman dismembered an opponent and then proceeded to beat him to death with his own limbs, so Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe won't carry the familiar M for Mature rating.

As for the storyline excuse for the crossover, some unspecified climactic event causes the Mortal Kombat and DC universes to begin merging. Each world sees itself as being attacked by the other, and their respective characters join the fight to repel the strange invaders. To help pen the tale, Midway has enlisted comic creators Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Grey. The two have worked together previously on a number of DC and Marvel comics including Jonah Hex and Shana the She-Devil.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is set for release this fall. For more details on the game and its new fighting system, check out GameSpot's first preview.

I think that will be little funny.

357revolver - April 19, 2008 12:22 AM (GMT)
wtf are you serious? that sounds dumb as hell, mortal kombat was my favorite fighting franchise game but not after this

black king - April 19, 2008 12:25 AM (GMT)
should have been Marvel vs Dc not MK. this'll be interesting to see it develop. i'll keep an eye on this but is this going to be the one where only Scorpin and Sub Zero are the originial chracters and every othe rMK chracater is new?

Soriddo Suneku - April 19, 2008 12:26 AM (GMT)
Before I go any further, let me say I hate Superman.
That being said, in the DC universe he is pretty much omnipotent in a fight against anything.

How the fuck are they going to pit him up against Mortal Kombat characters while keeping his powers on the same level and making the game fair at the same time?

What a dumb idea.

Helikaon - April 19, 2008 12:45 AM (GMT)
Damn.

There go my hopes for a reboot of the Mortal Kombat series to the point after Deadly Alliance :(

This is one of the most stupid, insane, money orientated and just downright shit ideas in the history of ideas.

So we have a series that prides itself on its violence. I know! Lets combine it with a comic publisher that tones down the violence in nearly* all of its publications!

(*You dare say anything about Batman and I will eat you alive. I put "nearly" for a god-damn reason)

Cardboard Box Junkie - April 19, 2008 01:31 AM (GMT)
Pretty much anyone from the DC universe would smoke Mortal Kombat characters. What a ridiculous concept.

Null - April 19, 2008 03:24 AM (GMT)
Don't touch DC legends, and leave MK how it is.

They are taking away what pretty much defines Mortal Kombat as a gaming series.

I knew they woulden't be able to make MK any better after MK3. It was all downhill from that glorious game.

Yackemflaber - April 19, 2008 05:39 AM (GMT)
these developers are getting desperate

Webbie - April 19, 2008 06:04 AM (GMT)
I'm totally disappointed.

Personally, I've always been a pretty big Mortal Kombat fan. I've owned nearly every MK game at one point in my life. On the other hand, I've honestly never been into anything that involved DC Comics.

Aside from the upgraded Konquest mode, Armageddon really didn't deliver the way I was expecting it to. I was hoping the first next-gen version of the game would kick ass especially after the release of Virtua Fighter 5 and seeing how great of a game that was.

I guess I won't be expecting any decent MK games for a while.

black king - April 19, 2008 08:35 PM (GMT)
i found a trailer. Looks a little iffy but we'll see.

Trailer

Helikaon - April 19, 2008 08:37 PM (GMT)
That doesn't look as bad as I expected. At least there's blood...

But still, I'm not convinced.

black king - April 19, 2008 08:41 PM (GMT)
ya but no fatalities for the sake of DC fanboys

wraith shadow - April 20, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
this is retarded!

Mortal kombat without a doubt is my favorite game but this is a perfect way to ruin the series.

A mortal kombat game without fatalities is like ryu without his trademark hadoken

fuck that ruined my day.

WhySoSerious - April 20, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
That is crazy wow never saw that one coming.

g-fox - April 20, 2008 05:04 AM (GMT)
i'd be surprised if the sales of this game made it past 50,000 copies sold

iAn - April 20, 2008 08:24 AM (GMT)
AH HAHAHA! This is going to be AWESOME!!

357revolver - April 20, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
from what my brother told me there not gonna have any fatalities in this one which is a HUGE disappointment

VII - April 20, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
o come on make it M damnit...

FearHeldDear - April 20, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
The last few MK games sucked anyway, and that "Kreate A Fatality" crap was so lame. I say, screw fatalities. They haven't been good in MK for years.

Unfortunately, the only good DC character is Batman. It will be fun to use him to stomp the shit out of Liu Kang though.

The Departed - April 23, 2008 07:23 AM (GMT)
at the rate of how shitty the last 3 games, deadly alliance, shaolin monks, and armageddon have been, i guess what does ed boon have to lose really?

deception was decent, me and my friends always had fun playing it, had high gameplay value, my only beef was how similar a lot of characters were.

plus i heard only 20 people total will be in this game so maybe boon will have to actually try on making each character unique and fun to play as this time.

but either way, we'll probably get it and have fun. me and my friends/roommates are easy to please. :P

iAn - April 23, 2008 07:26 AM (GMT)
DA was awesome. Esp. when playing on the hardest difficulty.

DA was awesome. Esp. when playing on the hardest difficulty.

it was fun but what i disliked was how lazily done the fatalities were, how boring konquest was and how you couldn't even use joystick.

it was still fun and nothing can top fire skull scorpion! :ph43r:

i just thought deception was an improvement.

but if the 20 roster is true, then who's coming in?

we see sub-zero and scorpion, my guess is raiden, liu kang, shang tsung, reptile, kitana, sonya, kano, johnny cage.

on dc, i guess green lantern, superman, batman, brainiac, flash, cyborg, auquaman, and that's as much as i know based off smallville. :D

Helikaon - April 23, 2008 08:13 AM (GMT)
Boon isn't with Midway anymore, so he has very little to lose. Except respect for the franchise he made.

Respect for a franchise he created?

Oh he lost that the very second he announced Kreate-A-Fatality.

VII - April 24, 2008 07:12 AM (GMT)
like a friend of mine said when i told him that it wasn't gonna be M rated game " why wouldn't i just play marvel v capcom" i have to agree with him but still i might have to give this game a shot..

official site btw guys :P http://www.worldscollide.com/

krypton_ls - April 24, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
DC has never really had a good range of characters, and the chances are that the first game regarding these two 'types' that most played first would have been an MK game....

.... which are obviously better for reasons I cannot define. Yet. ^_^

Splitter Snake - April 24, 2008 05:26 PM (GMT)
lol Sounds awesome.

SolidSnake52 - April 24, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Should have been Mortal Kombat vs. Marvel. Marvel has WAY better characters than DC.

snake_solid - April 29, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
I think it's pretty interesting in my opinion. From the looks of it, I have to give this one a chance and see how it turns out but overall, i like it.
