hmm what can i say, some look better than the others, but some images just look blurred, oh well well when we play the game then we'll find out ;)
g-fox - April 25, 2008 09:17 PM (GMT)
wasn't this posted yesterday
Shyne-Bryght - April 25, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
To be honest I prefer most of the 'unimproved' pics. But Raiden looks better without the crazy white eyes.
MGS. - April 25, 2008 09:51 PM (GMT)
Great job dude. No, this wasn't posted before.
Nice additions. It looks more realistic now though the graphics are "rougher" than the original ones.
It's just great. We mustn't expect nothing less from Kojima and his production unit and I'm sure that we are going to see many more improvements until the game's official release.
I can't wait...
SOLID_7_SNAKE - April 25, 2008 09:57 PM (GMT)
I think the charcters are gonna look just as good as they do on the konami site.
GreySnake - April 25, 2008 11:47 PM (GMT)
Mmm, the revamped Old Snake is looking ALOT better than the older one.
Or maybe they didn't change anything and my eyes are playing tricks on me, but if not, he looks way better than before.
LarryTermite - April 26, 2008 12:59 AM (GMT)
New ones have much more texture, and the lighting is more realistic.
WhySoSerious - April 26, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
I want to see a trailer with the revamped pics that be sweet.
KingBoss - April 26, 2008 02:19 AM (GMT)
the older ones are supposed to look better seeing as it was based that the ps3 would be more powerfull than what kojima expected

o....k
yeah the new trailer dosen't show much new stuff but its cool that they took all the cutscenes from the newest build of the engine.
Lets hope the games story and gameplay are as epic as the graphics are gunna be.

yea he actually looks like snake lol nice job with the pics dude some look wayyy better
CVC - April 26, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
i haven't seen the improved trailer, only the old one could someone send me an URL
Hippysnake - April 26, 2008 09:50 AM (GMT)
They're pretty much split...Some of the newer ones look better than their previous counterparts and vice versa.
However there is a bit of aliasing with newer version.
I prefer the newer version though.

I totally agree. The new Old Snake (haha) looks much better. His features are more clearly defined - not just the lack of blurring - and you can see the toll age has taken on him.

Not meaning to be a pest but your sig is wrong. its Outer Haven not Outer Heaven. Just trying to help out.
Cardboard Box - April 27, 2008 02:57 AM (GMT)
Those really do look like an improvement. All of the characters have more detail in their faces.
metalgear141 - April 27, 2008 09:43 AM (GMT)
yeh they look much betta. I honestly cant wait to play it now :D
xIrontallicax - April 30, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
are the ones on the left not cg, and the ones on the right in engine? That's what it looks like to me, look at the first otacon one. I have to say that if i'm right, they've done a great job because there's not much difference. Although I really liked that first one of Raiden, he looked more menacing with the white eyes, now he looks kinda normal (as normal as skull and a spine inside a mechanical suit can look)
solidfox - May 1, 2008 05:16 PM (GMT)
I like the first Raiden. In fact I think I like the original pics better (I guess I should cause they are what Kojima expected with a more powerful engine). The new version seems like they'll make the game a lil to jagged for my taste.
Metal-Snake - May 1, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
Im basing my expectation on MGO. The graphics are not great but MGS4 is appareantly 30 times better. So i'm confident we will have alot to look forward to.
shiver_motion - May 4, 2008 04:32 PM (GMT)
You guys i think the pics on the left are the improved ones....isnt this from a japanese site? The pics on the right look atrocious btw. Its clear that the pics on the right arent the improvements becasue the simple fact that the lettering on Naomis jacket in the right pic is undefined and blurred out. Also why would they dull out Raidens eyes? that takes away from the intensity of his eyes. Its a step backward, all the pics on the right are. Also look at snakes and otacons face. The facial features are rigid and the textures around them are horrible. Are you sure the site wasnt just letting you in on the grahical progress since the game has been in development? Left side better graphics/ right side early development
Zeroth - May 4, 2008 04:45 PM (GMT)
The pics on the right are much better
Marshall_Boddah - May 5, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
I'd say the pictures on the right aren't so much as graphical "updates" but more "stepdowns" because Kojima said that the console couldn't handle what he originally planned, now they probably at the time of releasing THAT original trailer only made the actual trailer sequences (graphics wise) and so were able to release them with as detailed graphics as they want.
Now they trailers will be on disc and in game so the graphics had to change to fit that.
TOKUGAWA HEAVY INDUSTRIES - May 5, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
I think Marshall_Boddah is right, they might have added more detail but overall the graphics were reduced to accomodate the PS3.
Splitter Snake - May 5, 2008 11:31 PM (GMT)
You guys must have some fucked up eyes, because the graphics are clearly better...I don't really see what you guys are seeing. That brightness from early trailers is disgusting looking too be perfectly honest with you, the new graphics are gorgeous.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know what you guys are talking about.
I think it's more a case of slight graphical tweaking to make it better. The kind of graphics Kojima originally wanted are nothing like either of these two comparisons, so that has nothing to do with it really.
There is much more detail in the new pics than there is in the old ones. The old ones look like someone went crazy with water colours over all the textures.
TOKUGAWA HEAVY INDUSTRIES - May 6, 2008 12:46 AM (GMT)
Sure, the graphics are technically better, but (especially in Otacon's case) on an aesthetic level they aren't as good and aren't very lifelike. Same thing happened with The Twin Snakes.
Though as I said before in the trailer thread, it could just be the quality of the images themselves. All we really have to go on are some sort of blurry images ripped from a video, we can't accurately judge the graphics until the game comes out.
Fox0r - May 6, 2008 12:58 AM (GMT)
For the most part, I think the graphics look better. The only two changes I don't care for are Meryl's hair, and Raiden. I LOVED how zombie-ish Raiden looked in the first version. It added to peril/intrigue surrounding his new plight and despair.
shiver_motion - May 6, 2008 01:32 AM (GMT)
I liked the "blur/watercolor" over lay that was going on. It made it look like moving art. Also i think they made facial changes as well it seems like. Is it just me or has snakes nose gotten pointier and otacons face looks like a zombie now.
I still prefer the pics on the left.
and once again Raidens eyes are no longer intense and haunting. that really added to his character.

I agree here, yes the graphics are "technically" better but they don't like as aesthetically pleasing..
Not to me anyway.
The right hand pictures are better textured, but the out of focus background on the left hand (original) shots looks better, more realistic.
Better detailed textures doesn't always mean more realistic, plus the lighting on the right looks alot better.
But hey, these are just screen caps, when its on my tv in the real game, i won't care! :D

And you are basing this theory on the fact that they downsized a massive "US ARMY" lettering on Naomi's shirt? Try looking at the pictures. There is tremendously more background, and sky details in the right side, rather than the left. The left side was from the original trailers released last year, or even before that, I'm not sure. The right side are from the most recent trailer. I think the right side looks much better. Hell, compare the two pictures of the helicopters. A baby could figure out that there is greater detail on the pictures from the right side. The lighting has been fixed, as you can see in the picture of Snake at the grave.
The picture on the left, you can't even see the tree details because of the lighting. The right side has been detailed out, so you can make out the details of the tree, as well as the building and scenery all around. It's been changed from a blinding bright light, to a more dark, rainy setting. Actually, it's quite symbolic for the reasoning of why he's there.
Snake's hair has been changing from pure white, to a grey. I personally think it looks much better. Look at the picture from when he is sitting in the helicopter. His hair has changed, but they've added more lines and details to his face to make him look more exausted.
Now compare the details in the middle eastern city picture. There is more detail added to the right side, by far. The buildings have greater texture, and the sky has been given a better lighting.
I honestly don't know how you based your theory that the left was better on the fact of Naomi's shirt. I think the large "US ARMY" lettering in the left side looks atrocious. Lab coats don't have large letters on them like that. It looks like she took a pen and wrote that on in that picture.
I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest that you haven't seen any of the trailers. The left side pictures, like I said before, are from very old trailers.

I don't see any point in going on with the argument really.
Its clear some people think the left side looks better, some the right. That won't change.
No-one is right, no-one is wrong.
The right hand side has better detail in textures (to me), the left hand side to me has better lighting.
Thats that.
xIrontallicax - May 7, 2008 10:45 AM (GMT)
I'm sticking with the idea that the pics on the left are cg (cutscenes if you will), while the ones on the right are those same characters in engine in real time. Much like what guerilla tried to do with Killzone 2 pre-render and tried to make the engine as close to that as they could, just speculation on my part but it makes most sense to me.

Kojima confirmed that they use real time graphics even on the trailers except on the TGS 2005 where the graphics are CG. Nothing is pre-rendered except that trailer.

just a small improvement from snake eater's graphics if you ask me.

Well if that is true, (I haven't heard him confrm that do you have a link or source?) then im impressed. I could have sworn that the first Otacon pic was too smooth and lifelike to be in real time.

Kojima has never made a CG scene in his games ever, save for the intro to MGS3 and intro to MGS2. Everything is done with in game engine with very very little effects like specific filters.
But other than that everything is in game engine. A while ago he even proved it by pausing the actual trailer, using the PS3 controller and change the time of day, freely moved camera around, and played through it in slow motion while controlling the camera.
Its Kojima's calling card. He doesn't use CG.
EDIT: Oh, and the TGS 05 trailer is 100% real time. NOT CG!!

EDIT2: Whats this?? Whats THIS???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSDudPTOznEThe actual real time trailer demonstration!!!
OHH!!! IAN LAYS DOWN THE PWNGE!!!
Seriously guys. Doesn't take much to do actual research, doesn't it?
