MGS4 is going to have one tough fight, thats for sure.

GTAIV already got a perfect 10 from most places, including Gamespot. MGS4 will be lucky to get a 9.5.

Ultimately, MGS4 is gonna be wicked, but GTAIV is going to be the greatest game of this year, no questions asked. More so than Killzone 2, Socom Confrontation, Soul Calibur IV, MGS4, and even GT5.

MGS4 is under the category of one of the greatest games of this year and of all time, but GTAIV is possibly the greatest game of all time.

All I know is I was and still am looking forward to MGS4 more than I ever was for GTA IV.

Yeah, I'm with Null on this, considering they are from two entirely different genres its a bit of an unfair comparison really.

Considering GTAIV has already garnered a 99 at metacritic (thus making it the highest scoring video game of all time) I can't see MGS4 getting "Game of the Year", for example (which is a great shame really).

For sure I'm excited to get my hands on GTA IV and check out everything they've done with it, but my interest in the GTA series hasn't been all that high for a while now. On the other hand, rather than losing interest in the MGS series, I've only grown more interested in it; I want everything to finally be revealed. I'm far more excited to find out what happens in MGS4 than GTA IV.

I'm not knocking GTA IV, though, because it really all depends on your personal preference. I'm sure a lot of people will love it more than they like MGS4, but I'm also sure that'll go both ways. It's difficult to really compare them. Regardless, they're both great games.

I feel about the same with that. overall fun factor will go to GTA because of the sandbox, do what you want when you want, gameplay. For me though I', sure I'll enjoy MGS4 more than gta 4 but that's because I'm a diehard fan.

As most have said, these games just can't and shouldn't be compared. You know what people used to do? They bought games for fun, not because a million other people were buying them as well. The reason I ever actually even considered playing a GTA game was because one of my friends told me about it. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't even know what GTA is.

Anyway, just get the game you find more fun. Should be obvious who I voted for.

Maybe MGS4 should be pushed back another year so it could get game of the year :P

i voted for mgs4, but gta IV is very impressive, i played it yesterday t my brothers house, but i guess it really depends on what kind of game u like. if u like shoot em up, youll probably like gta IV more, but if yur more of the stealth gamer, youll probably like mgs4 more

MGS 4 will no doubt be the better game, and will remain a cult symbol for those loyal fans. GTA Will rule the reviews and sales though, making it better in the eyes of the public and the media they consume.
The success will be down to the online modes. MGO will be the mutt's nuts as we all know, but there are online features in GTAIV that I have no idea about so it'll be hard to compare.
Not to mention MGS 4 isn't out yet, so is unfair to judge the merits of both based on half speculation.

I'll bet my left nut that ign and other sites were under the influence of rockstar by somehow and thats why it got a 10/10

They are 2 completely different games, it's hard to compare. In my opinion MGS4 will be way better, but GTAIV might get a better score and better reviews, because it will be liked by almost everyone, because it's easy to get into and just shoot some people, but MGS4 players will play it for the story and it will not be played by a random gamer who just wants to hop into a game. If a sunday-gamer goes to a store and sees MGS4 and GTA4 on the same shelf, which one is he gonna choose ...

So basically MGS4 will be better (in my opinion, but we'll have to see), but it won't be recognized by so much gamers as the GTA4 will be.

Both of them are great games but i doubt that MGS4 will get a score of 10 since not all people like to watch long cutscenes. In mgs4 you have to watch all those long cutscenes to understand what is happening, which i think are amazing. So in terms of story MGS4 will surley be the best.
In gameplay GTAIV is better.

But i think that GTAIV got a score of 10 because it is a game that got everything, so everyone will like it.

However i was never really excited for GTAIV, and neither any of my friends were. And i am sure that i will enjoy MGS4 much more than i am enjoying GTAIV.

However i'd be happy to see MGS4 as game of the year. If t won't be game of the year it will be the runner up.

Have you at least seen the trailers of MGS4 ? We have so much information about the game ... we even have a 15 minute gameplay video. When I saw the first GTA IV gameplay video I was disappointed in it, because I thought it will be better, but when I saw the MGS4 gameplay, I was more hyped than ever. MGS4 will surely be more in-depth and more enjoyable for me.I know I will like GTA IV and I can't wait to play it, but still I think I'll like MGS4 better.

You know guys dunno if you're aware of this, but very few people that aren't hardcore MGS fans are actually impressed by what MGS4 has to offer, as I've seen that on many many other forums I go to, while the popularity and awesomeness of GTA was discussed yesterday on our nationals TV fucking NEWS program!

But games are so different in gene it's different to tell which one is better.

Overall, I think MGS4 will be a game for the fans, because for the game to become appealing to as many people as GTA is, it wouldn't have to loose the very essence if itself. While I like progressing in game's mechanics lets' face it - MGS IS rusty and unrealistic.

I'm not HC MGS fan anymore, which is obvious, but it still pains me to see people diss MGS 4 based on what was offered to the public. I'm 100% sure GTA4 is going to pawn it.

So many information? That's all good to you? You can't make a decision how a game is untill you've played it. MGS4 might even suck hard, and I dont think it will. Just to give you something, it's still a game. A game can still fail, even if it is MGS4.

I'm a much bigger metal gear fan than I am a gta fan but I do enjoy both. MGS4 is the only reason why I even have a ps3. Saying that, both games are different and are excellent at what they try to achieve and convey to its audience. But, lets be real here, gta is a more commercial and accessible game. Anyone can play it and get into it. Its one of those fun games that have this expansive appeal that the metal gear games don't have. MGS is extremely popular and is definitely one of the big boy franchises but in terms of overall popularity, it pales in comparrison to gta. MGS are games that appeal to a specific audience and thats primarilly a cult following but based on past games, based on the previews and based on the fact that its a continuing story of what's gone on in the past, MGS4 will be killer!

And this is where MGS4 isolates itself from most other games, including gta. Its story. GTA have numerous tasks that contribute to telling a story but there's no heart or personal connecion or any real genuine interest to see how the characters evolve that comes close to that of MG. MG relies heavily on its story and as a fan I believe its story is the game's unique selling point, followed by everything else.

All that being said, I do believe that MGS4 will be the ps3 life saver but at the same time, I'm not expecting MGS4 to make anywhere near the same amount of revenue that GTA4 has made and will make and nor do I care. What I do know is, MGS4 will not be a waste for kojima and co and hopefully nor will it be a waste for us fans who hold it with such high regard.

June 12 will be the most important day of 2008.

I'm not voting since I haven't played MGS4 yet. Its hard to imagine something that can top GTA4 though. Much different games but judging at what they are supposed to do and all their merits, it will be a close race.

No matter even if MGS4 turns out to be better in my opinion, GTA4 will still likely take GOTY before MGS4.

IMO MGS4 will be better than GTA4 any day but GTA4 has sadly a better chance to win game of the year and most likely MGS4 will not get a perfect 10 like GTA4. GTA4 will probably go down as maybe the best game since the original halo but mgs4 could take that place. :D

Given the choice I would much rather play MGS 4 right now than GTA IV, but that's because I've already made my mind up about the majesty that is GTA IV. I can't really comment on MGS 4, because the only way I've played it is via MGO.

Ok there is no comparisson here anyway 2 different genres of gaming.

but if you want to compare things lets do it,
- graphics: from what ive seen in GTA4 graphics arent good squiggly edges still piss me off, as for MGS4 (though all weve seen is footage from trailers, demos, MGO beta) MGS4 way better.

- sound quality: not so great in GTA4 most sounds are still the same as they were in previous games but from what we heard MGS4 has the best quality of anything before it man i got surround sound and on MGO i hear bullets wizzing past my ears!

- game play: in GTA sure you can run around a city and drive cars but in MGS4 we get to ride a "Giant Fucking Robot" beat that.

none of us have played MGS4 yet so we can't really make a full comparison, but the final product will no doubt be way better than anything we have seen or played so far.
