Title: New MGS4 Shadow Moses trailer!
Description: But was it all a dream?

fredrik - May 1, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
Look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k690PtiAGKM i know it dosent look like old snake but maybe it is a mask ? is it fanmade or real ? SPOILER maybe

Helikaon - May 1, 2008 05:43 PM (GMT)
Shadow Moses is one of the five areas in the game. It was previously shown in the TGS 2007 trailer.

Its a strange video. I don't see any way that it could be fake, so I'm going to take it at face value:
  • We definitely go back to Shadow Moses in some way. Whether as some sort of playable dream or as a fully fledged area on par with the Middle East, South America and Eastern Europe.
  • The "Young Snake" may be Solid Snake having nightmares as a reaction to the stresses of battle.
  • We definitely get our hands on an XM8.

Metal-Snake - May 1, 2008 05:47 PM (GMT)
But what is the significance of returning to Shadow Moses.

anfield snake - May 1, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
because thats where all started from really, as many fans of mgs started playing metal gear solid 1 from the ps1, also thats where it all started from for liquid n solid snake, so it's like a nostalgic thing for the gamers and it may be relevant to the games story, also liquid wanted shadow moses to be the new outer heaven in mgs1

Metal-Snake - May 1, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
Thanks. I know all about that but I never thought that the physical place had any meaning in the game. Ah MGS1, god times.

Hippysnake - May 1, 2008 06:08 PM (GMT)
So my theory of revisiting Shadow moses was correct!!!

Kinda...

Here is the real trailer! With the last bit...(rather funnny...) Edit: Sorry for double post...

Young Snake - May 1, 2008 06:15 PM (GMT)
It did look like the young Snake mask. It couldn't be a flashback, as the outfit looks to be the same Octocamo. It looks really good, got my excitement way up to see the Heliport again.

OcelotSnake - May 1, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
Oh christ they had to spoil it didn't they.

*sigh*

Kotaku have the full thing up here:

http://kotaku.com/386212/will-mgs-4-featur...-mgs-flashbacks

@Heli: It's up at Gametrailers on the main page and considering the footage anyway it's got to be the real deal.

Payton, please, we need that overdue KP report stat!

Metal-Snake - May 1, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
But what would they be there for?

Hippysnake - May 1, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
"I'm having that dream again..."

Is that a clue for you?

doubleo sigint - May 1, 2008 06:21 PM (GMT)
Wow look how much detail is in Shodow Moses and how much bigger it is. It's most likely a dream because 1. it's young Snake and 2. his Octocamo wasn't working when he leaned to the wall. Unless later in the game Snake finds some way to cure his accelerated ageing and decided to visit SM but I doubt it i'd stick with the first theroy.

Metal-Snake - May 1, 2008 06:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah, almost hard to recognise, been so long.

1st2nd3rd4th - May 1, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
Ah here it is. Hello all i'm new to the forum.

Anyway, doesn't look that much like a flashback rather edited by someone else (probably within KP ranks) to look like a flashback as they used that same Hideo Kojima "surprise" footage from the assassin's creed video (obviously).

In anycase, I think it's just someone puting on the young snake mask and going through Shadow Moses. It's already confirmed and we never came in through the side but on an elevator. Plus the whole place is empty and rundown.

Meh, I guess its just to boost excitement.. in which.. it succeeded.

doubleo sigint - May 1, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
Just saw the full version and Im loving the effects of the pixelated young Snake transforming into Old Snake. I'd say this is pretty legit apart from the "dish you ryk it?" at the end, obviously taken from the Assassins Creed april fools trailer.

This makes me think maybe when I play through the entire series starting next week I should play MGS (PSX) rather than MGSTTS (GC) since that the original is being used for the flashbacks which makes a more canon play through than TTS i believe even though TTS is more fun.

God playing through those graphics and old school gameplay is going to be hell but it's gonna be worth it.

VII - May 1, 2008 07:10 PM (GMT)
Oh my god Kojima really outdid himself with this game i cant wait much longer

Roy Campbell - May 1, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
Holy Shit. Anticipation for MGS4 has just rocketed.

However, if it like definitely definitely confirmed this is actually in the game and not another joke from Kojima?

redfox45 - May 1, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
..That bit at the end..is he pulling our legs?

I started out playing MGS1 but I wanted to go back to the location of the original outerheaven :(

FaizanKauser - May 1, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
when octocamo goes with snow it looks nang probably like 100% Camoflage

But it looks really good cant wait to go there !

MGS. - May 1, 2008 07:30 PM (GMT)
Things are simply too complicated in here...

Snake is young or possibly wears the "Young Snake" mask (if that exists). What that shows to us? What the video would show something like that? What are they trying to achieve?
2nd entrance to the heliport is revealed which didn't exist on MGS1. It was created by the harsh environmental weather, by something else or it's just "fake"?

Too many questions... Except the above nothing else looks fake on the video or the graphics.
I believe it's real. But I can't understand the above I mentioned...

Its a dream, looks at the other video posted or the kotaku article (not the youtube video) it shows Snake waking up and saying he was having that dream again.

micster - May 1, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Playable flashbacks i am 1000000% certain of. No octocamo to look young or anything.

And ive just thought ... If we are gonna do flashbacks from previous MGS', Then isnt it possible to play as Snake in the Big Shell momentarally?

Null - May 1, 2008 07:48 PM (GMT)
Ho-ly shit.

I am so fucking pumped for this right now I don't even know what to say.

skywalker - May 1, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
Was that RAY in the background there when Snake starts shooting from the rope ladder?

How could it be a playable flashback, there were no guards and he comes in from the side instead of the elevator. I am guessing within the disc he has made a free roaming shadow moses playthrough or even remade the game entirely.

When Snake wakes up he says I am having that dream again, I wonder if this is foreshadowing an event in the game. I would almost bet it is.

No, Its REX. Its the Shadow Moses map of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

skywalker - May 1, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Look again, after it blows up the screen it is RAY in the background, not Rex.

Hippysnake - May 1, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
Indeed, you're right.

Snake said- "I was having that dream AGAIN."

Maybe, we could play different parts os the MGS series' as he dreams?
Or perhaps different aspects of Shadow Moses? I'd love to go back to the area where Sniper Wolf died. I can just see Hideo pulling a 'switch to disk 2' trick on us...

skywalker - May 1, 2008 08:15 PM (GMT)
I really believe Snake is foreshadowing here. I think there is a very good chance we go back to shadow moses to find Liquid and have the final battle.

Splitter Snake - May 1, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
lol Hideo, you and your mind games.

metalgear141 - May 1, 2008 09:56 PM (GMT)
u play the flash back, its obvious..."im having that dream again".

MistaJeff44 - May 1, 2008 10:29 PM (GMT)
Hey all-
I'm new to this forum, and I've never actually posted on forums in general, but I might as well start now.

This video gave me a few ideas. I'm not quite familiar with the spoiler tags, so I apologize if I mess things up there. I'm not even sure they're necessary but I'm trying to play it safe.

[spoiler]
Who remembers the nightmare mini-game from MGS3? When you load the game in certain areas, you fight off demons in Naked Snake's nightmares. What if this is an expansion of that? Maybe when you load MGS4 at certain points, like if you save after certain plot points, you start inside Snake's nightmare in this dream-version of Shadow Moses. Maybe when one sequence ends, the next nightmare sequence begins where it was left off when you load again. Perhaps this nightmare-MGS1 will be available as a "mini-game" (can an entire game be considered a mini-game?) once you beat MGS4. At the same time, we know that Cam Clarke (is that his name? Liquid's voice actor?) is not listed in the credits for MGS4, so it's unlikely. However, if the same dialog tracks are carried over from the original MGS1, they may not necessarily have to list him as a voice actor.

Just an idea, I thought I'd throw it out there and see if there's something I'm overlooking that debunks my possible theory. I think it would be sweet, though.

Shammien - May 1, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
My theory; Snake is having that dream while travelling to SM, right?
Guys look at his breath when he wakes up, he seems to be in a really cold place... like SM. What do you think about that one? Middle-east can't be that cold, nor can South-America, maybe eastern Europe, but very doubtfull!

Marshall_Boddah - May 1, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
Wow, i hope they release teasers over the next month.

REALLY cannot wait for this game, it will tie up EVERY loose end possible.

Although i bet he leaves a few more open at the end of MGS4.

Splitter Snake - May 1, 2008 10:42 PM (GMT)
Some people are now claiming that this was a very well done, fake teaser, personally I doubt that, but it seems to becoming popular to believe that.

Null - May 1, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
How's it possible?

It's surely NOT a very well done fake teaser at all. Seriously, unless someone with the programming knowledge of the MGS developers created a next gen Shadow Moses like that, it's not a fake teaser at all..

Also, how would they have got the last part with Snake and Otacon in a chopper. If people are saying it's a fake teaser, I'd like to see the support evidence they are using to support that claim.

Couldn't agree more, there is no way that is a teaser, if it is Konami should hire the guys that made the next gen shadow moses for a remake of MGS 1.

Draketopher - May 2, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
This is insane. And I say it's no fake. Too good.

The Merciless Warrior - May 2, 2008 02:53 AM (GMT)
Pretty sweet dream then. Something probably gets Snake thinking about his youth and perhaps he's going to Shadow Moses Island and all of a sudden he leans off to sleep...

brainScrap - May 2, 2008 03:34 AM (GMT)
One thing that I don't understand in this video is why Snake moves through the snow to reach the Heliport instead of swimming to the base and using the elevator like he did in MGS1. Maybe it was meant to create suspense, if that was what Kojima wanted, then it's a job well done. There were some cool details like Snake's suit covered in snow for example, so, I don't believe this if fake, it's too good, but his suit is a bit tight imo, and I think in MGS1, Snake's suit was the same as the suit he used in MGS2, in which the suit wasn't as tight as it is in the vid

Splitter Snake - May 2, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
I think this is possible a mix of scenes to throw fans off, but we'll see in only in one month!
