Fight Club, being the best movie ever created. I want to hear some of your opinions on it.

Amazing movie. Not best movie. That honor is reserved for A Clockwork Orange.
Solid Turd - May 6, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
His name is Robert Paulsen, Between Fight Club and A Clockwork Orange, ooh thats a toughie.
..Liquid.. - May 7, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)

''His name is Robert Paulsen, his name is Robert Paulsen''
Gotta love it :ph43r:

I think it was pretty good. In no way apart of my top 50 but it was good. Made me actually believe Pitt truly was a decent actor, so I went back and watched his other greats like Twelve Monkeys. Same with Nortan.
xAlwaysOpenMouthx - May 7, 2008 01:01 AM (GMT)
You should watch Meet Joe Black, best Brad Pitt movie ever... or even Seven.

Seen em both, they are indeed great. Anything with Hopkins is good anyway though.

12 Monkeys and Fight Club are Pitt's best flicks. Fight Club belongs on everyone's top 10 list.

sure its a good movie but man is it boring at certain parts and is way to long your just sitting there waiting for it to end. its definitely not as good as people say it is "dis is teh b3st movi evar" sure it had a good ending but it cannot make up for the bore fest of the rest of the movie
solidfox - May 7, 2008 01:29 AM (GMT)
I to find it to be 'overrated'. Like I said before, it is a decent movie but I don't think it is good enough to get the praise it gets. Just me though, I go for more 'intellectual' movies, I like to have a movie make me think, not just while watching it but for weeks, months, and years later.
xAlwaysOpenMouthx - May 7, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
I'm sure if you read the book, or any of the other books by it's author, that you'd understand the amazingness. A year after I read the book and the movie came out I didn't even know there was a movie until I saw it at Blockbuster.
solidfox - May 7, 2008 01:42 AM (GMT)
Of his I've only read Stranger than Fiction, Snuff and Fight Club. I do like Stranger than Fiction.
xAlwaysOpenMouthx - May 7, 2008 01:46 AM (GMT)
Well Stranger Than Fiction is non-fiction and non-fiction books generally tend to suck. I would recommend Choke, Haunted, and Rant. They're making a movie out of Choke which is going to star Brad Pitt again and have the same director as Fight Club.
solidfox - May 7, 2008 01:51 AM (GMT)
Sweet, I haven't heard of that one, just Rant. Whats the Premise?
xAlwaysOpenMouthx - May 7, 2008 01:56 AM (GMT)
Choke is about a medical school dropout that scams people out of money by doing things to make people save him and he scopes out sex addiction recovery workshops to get action and he works at a theme park. That's the simple version. But there's sooooooo much more to it than just that.

I remember Fight Club being a damn good film, but I've only seen it a single time and it's honestly been so long I hardly remember anything about it.
But no, I wouldn't call it the 'best film ever'. It's definitely better than a lot of movies, but it's not the best, and I'm really not that big a fan of A Clockwork Orange either.
Once Upon a Time in America is the greatest movie of all time ^_^

I would say Fight Club is a very 'intellectual' movie. There are alot of themes that it covers and does keep alot of people thinking about life for months and even years. It talks about how we define ourselves through what we buy, commercialism, about people being just like sheep (ironically for both the people outside of FC and the members of FC), it touches upon themes of anarchy and individualism...
There's rarely a movie that encompasses so many themes so successfully.
This is the main reason why its so highly praised.
Its not just a movie about people beating each other up.
@VII - Perhaps a more action oriented movie would better suit your tastes. Maybe Transporter or the Jackass movies would be better for you instead of these thinking movies. ;)

You see, but even before the movie I had already realized such things and I never went with the mainstream. I understood its deeper meaning but the movie itself never gave me a different outlook on life. Therefore I never got the whole "omg greatness" vibe from it since it was just spewing thoughts back at me that I've already mauled over.
Movies that I rate as 'great' would be things like Eternal Sunshine, Vanilla Sky, What Dreams May Come, The Professional, Closer, The Fountain, Memento...the list goes on. All types of movies that keep me thinking and every time I watch it I get something new out of it. Thats how I define a great movie. Something that not only keeps me thinking of it but I also get something new from it with each viewing.

Fight Club is an amazing movie. Not the 'Best' but certainly up there.
snakeinthegear - May 7, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
Fight club, despite its blatant machoisms is a brilliant movie that covers many themes, has a brilliant director in Fincher and has great performances from its cast, particularly, Norton, (which is why I have faith in the new hulk film. Norton makes the dual personality thing work).
FC is just a great film, period.
WhySoSerious - May 7, 2008 08:54 PM (GMT)
I liked Fight Club but not my favorite movie ever though.
Solid Snake8 - May 7, 2008 09:00 PM (GMT)
I remember when I first saw previews and commercials for Fight Club on TV and I thought...
Wow, that looks extremely dumb mainly because in every commercial it would just be...
"Number 1 rule of fight club?"
"DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!"
SO, I just thought it was going to be streetfighting movie or something stupid like that, but when I actually saw it I really enjoyed it. It's great when you can watch a movie and get something new out of it every time like in Donnie Darko or Memento.

Shit Webbie, you have just shot through the roof in my respect levels.
Once Upon A Time In America is absolutley mindblowing. I definitley agree with you.
Everything about it is so perfect. It's just fucking beautiful, beautiful stuff. Sergio Leone could not have ended his film making career or life on a more apt and amazing note.
As for Fight Club, it's a pretty amazing movie yeah. Definitley in my top 10, not sure where though. Probably Norton and Pitts best performances of their careers. I'm not sure I understand why people think it's overatted. Care to elaborate other than it was just 'boring' at some points? I also fail to understand how you can't brand it 'intellectual' (I do hate that term for describing a movie though, it must be said) It's core text and plot line are influenced by a number of 'intellectual' literature.
solidfox - May 8, 2008 03:32 AM (GMT)
I've already mentioned why I think it is over rated. I never once said it was bad, I like it, but just not my cup of tea. I've had this conversation with others before and they always defend it like somebody stated earlier, how its a movie about not going with the norm and not being sheep. So I think its pretty funny when people get bent out of shape when I myself am not going with the norm and not praising the movie as 'greatness'. I like to believe that I can form my own opinion on things.
It just didn't give me some 'profound' message like people tend to say. I myself was able to form thoughts on matters long before this movie and it was just simply a retelling of things I've already known. So in the end I didn't get anything new from it.

Hate to disagree. But that movie was not all that great. Sure it had a lot of well-known actors in it. But wayyy too boring. The best movie spot belong to Idiocracy.

Get out! The film was cut 40 minutes anyway. I conceed it's slow to get into..but it's not boring at all. It's a beautiful masterpiece. The reason it's so long is because Leone did everything perfectly.
