i dont know much about size x by x or whatever. yet, i cant upload any avatar i want. at all. wrong format? too big? or what?

If you want to upload your own you need to edit the pixels size of it. Make it 100 pixels x 100 pixels or close to that. Then save it as a jpg or another acceptable format. If you dont have a program to do it on, try uploading an image to photoshack, I believe they have editing tools there. Try doing a google search for a free picture editing program download if you have none.

You could always just change the format of the picture manually. It usually works for me however there might be a down side to doing that. Simply re find the picture, click save as, and switch the file type to the style you want, or if its not there, switch to all files and manually finish the extension (.jpg , .jpeg, .bmp etc.). Just because its worked for me so far, doesnt mean it will work in every situation, but i figure it is worth a shot.

I would also like to know if there is an easier way to do this, as it would greatly help my programming. Please post here if there is (sorry for being off topic).

I'm guessing the problem is that we're 6% over our alloted file space on IF. I'll have to talk to Ryan about it, but we may just have to disable the uploading of avatars for the time-being. This wouldn't be the end of the world; after all, a new image uploading service pops up almost daily. It still is nice to allow avatar uploads, though.
