Title: Extinction

Nikkolas - May 8, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
Snake So the Genome Soldiers mean that the experiments were a success?

Liquid Success? Don’t be a fool! They’re a complete failure! We’re on the verge of extinction.

Snake What!?

Liquid Have you ever heard of the Asymmetry Theory? Nature tends to favor asymmetry. Those species which have gone extinct all show signs of symmetry. The Genome Soldiers suffer from the same problem... signs of symmetry. So do I, as do you.

Liquid That's right. We are all on the verge of death at the genetic level. We don't know when or what type of disease will occur. That’s why we need the old man's genetic information.

Have we ever learned what Liquid was talking about? Is it supposed to be the accelerated aging? I don't think that would make sense since only the clones aged fast and he's talking about both the clones and the soldiers with BB's genes in them.

That statement from Liquid I don't agree with. People have though ages lived and died(off course). But as he time goes people learn to be better survivors.
People get older than ever before and thats the reason why there are simply too many people on the earth.

But we can't kill all of them, I mean they we don't need!!! Can we......?

BTW. I don't totally get your language so if the post don't answer to your question don't bother reading it again.

Isn't it obvious? Liquid is saying that everything that has asymmetrical genes lives and that everything with symmetrical genes dies. He's saying that everything that's the same as everything (or close to the same) will die. And I wouldn't take anything from MGS literally. It IS fiction mind you. It really doesn't need much explaining at all.

But he's saying he will die. That Snake will die. That all the Genome Soldiers will die. Because of Big Boss' genes apparently.
I wanted to know why exactly.

GTFOYHH - May 9, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
That ties in with the statement about being symmetrical. All of the Genome soldiers, the Snakes, they have the same code as Big Boss, so that means they're all the same and symmetrical with each other. And it relates to foxdie in the way that, they were all probably injected and when that genetic code is killed by foxdie, it should kill them all. But Solid Snake didn't die and we don't really know about the genome soldiers. Nothing else was really elaborated.

Is he saying that if he gets his hands on Big Boss' remains, he can find a way to "cheat death" a little longer? That's what I understand from this. He probably already has it in MGS4.

I iinterpret it as meaning he can find a way to stabilize his genetic material so he doesn't age prematurely. The advanced aging was in effect even as early as Shadow Moses (Gray Fox: "You look terrible, you haven't aged well")

Isn't this just another way of talking about natural selection, basically you have to evolve thats how you (mankind) continue to survive. A species where the gene pool becomes stagnant (ie not evolving or moving forward) will die out? Is that not why he's talking about the genome soldier and basically any clone becoming extinct because their gene pool will become infused with all the genetic defects of the previous generation unless it can mutate and evolve. Sorry i'm not a genetiscist that's the best I can describe what I mean.

Reading over the text above again, I come to the same conclusion. Liquid needs BB remains to help complete the gene soldiers DNA profile. Every soldier is the same, so there are no 'new' genes to pass on, so their genes will never alter meaning a disease could completely wipe them all out as they are all inherently identical

More or less yeah. The flawed cloning process has left the clones with vintage genes, which means they're easy prey for a genetic disease, such as the advanced aging. They're all identical on the genetic level, so if one individual in a 'herd' shows signs of a genetic disease, then all of the herd is likely to have the exact same disease.
