*I didnt know where to post this, cuz this is general MGS, so I just put it here*

I've recently became a fan of MGS. (by recently i mean 6 months ago) And my first game to play was MGS3. Then I have just finished mgs2. And to be honest, the story is so AWESOME. I mean it always leaves me speechless once they reveal anything. Anyway, since i have only played 2 games, I am having a little trouble with the story.

Like what exactly is FOX unit and FOXHOUND and what are their purposes?
What exactly happened at shadow moses?
Who is gray fox?
Why did solid kill big boss?

and a bunch of other questions, and lets not forget, WHO ARE THE PATRIOTS???? seriously...

so anyway, is there somewhere where i can find the whole story in detail? If not could someone quickly explain the whole story until MGS4?

you need to buy metal gear solid and play your three games in order of release. then you will get an idea.

If you've played MGS2 and 3, I'm assuming you have a PS2 or PS3. Get MGS1. If you have a Wii, Twin Snakes will suffice.

There are plenty of MSX and NES emulators available via the interwebs, (not linking anything particular.) use them to play MG and MG2.

Portable Ops isn't needed for a total story experience, but it will help.

FOX is Force Operations X, a CIA special forces unit that was first put into official use in 1964 as part of the Virtuous Mission and Snake Eater. It was started by Major Zero and Naked Snake. Later it was under the control of Gene and rebelled in 1971, Naked Snake (Big Boss) then destroyed the unit.

FOXHOUND is the "successor" to FOX, it was started by Naked Snake shortly after he destroyed the FOX unit and it was under his direct command until 1995, when Colonel Roy Campbell took over, the last official commander of FOXHOUND was Liquid Snake in 2005. It was a High Tech Special Forces unit which focussed on counter-terrorism.

Solid Snake was sent in to destroy the renegade FOXHOUND unit who had seized control of the Shadow Moses nuclear missile disposal facility that was used as a cover for the construction of Metal Gear REX. Snake killed all members of the FOXHOUDN unit except for Revolver Ocelot. The whole operation was used as cover for the testing of FOXDIE, an experimental biological weapon, Solid Snake was used as the vector (carrier/agent) for the virus. FOXDIE however was only effective against three of it's targets: Decoy Octopus, Kenneth Baker and Liquid Snake. During the mission Snake discovered that he was the clone of Big Boss.

A legendary warrior who was the partially adopted son of Big Boss. He and Big Boss first met in Mozambique where Fox was a well known killed by the name of "Frank the Hunter", Big Boss named him Frank Jaegar. He was also the murderer of Naomi Hunter's parents and adopted Naomi because of it. He was one of the members of the renegade FOX unit that rebelled in 1971 and was one of the only members of the unit who Big Boss did not personally kill (the other being Elisa/Ursula). He was captured by Big Boss and imprisoned in Outer Heaven and later fought for Big Boss in Zanzibar Land where he was "killed" by Solid Snake. He was revived by the Patriots and fought against Snake at Shadow Moses, where he was crushed to death by Liquid Snake.

Because he was threatening the world. Also in the words of Solid Snake "he wanted it, besides there are some people who just need killing".

You NEED to play MGS1, it explains most of your questions and it truly is epic in terms of story.

ok so I've decided to play MGS1, but should I download and play it on an emulator, or wait until I can crack my wii and play twin snakes? Which would you recommend?

Buy it on the PS1. Simple.

Failing that, ePSXe with the original game would be ok.
