NObody has started a topic on the release of Slipknot's new record so i figured i would. Obviously there are some Knot fans here and i was wondering what your thoughts are on their new record. If you don't like SLipknot thats fine, cause i know alot of people hate them but thats ok..keep on hating "you cannot kill what you did not create" |

It's a nice mix of music. Most of the album was meh for me, not in a bad way though, it's all top notch as far as Slipknot are concerned, but it was all too similar to Vol 3 to my ears, just not as good. I do love the Bloodstone remix of Vermillion Pt 2, as the original is one of my favourite songs ever. It's a good album, just too similar to the last album for my tastes, I'd rather listen to Vol 3 in that case. |

I was gutted they pulled out of Reading, but was over the moon when I found out they'd be touring in December. I can't wait to hear some of this new album live. The album sounds killer! |

they pulled out, was it because of Sid's shattered ankles? |

As ScarSnake knows, Im a huge Slipknot fan. I love them, and when I first heard there was going to be a new album, I was a little scepticle. After the success of Vol. 3 and Iowa (even Slipknot was a super album, just didn't have the range the others had), I wasn't sure how they could top it. However, the album is superb. A great mix of music and I can only rate it at 10/10. Corey's vocals are perfect, exactly what we have come to expect, and the guitars and drums are second to none. Certainly a contestant for album of the year. (I promise I am not just being biased.) @Corpse: Great to see another 'Knot fan, and I love the sig. Edited by Nils, Sep 9 2008, 04:45 PM.

its probably what i listen to the most out of their other albums i've been on a Slipknot run since AHIG came out. The more i hear it the more i love it. I thought Vol.3 couldn't be beaten but in my opinion it has. |

Slipknot used to be my favorite band. I saw them 7 years ago, after the release of Iowa, at the "Pledge of Allegiance" tour that they did with System of a Down, Mudvayne, Rammstein and some other bands... I think one of them was American Head Charge or something like that; I don't really know because they were terrible. That night was probably one of the greatest nights of my life. Their live performances are amazing and the energy they put into their shows makes every dime you spend on the ticket completely worth it... "I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound!" ...which brings me to my next point: after Iowa, Corey did his Stonesour thing and it infected the beast that is Slipknot. Ever since he did that, I feel as if Slipknot has had the wind knocked out of them. Vol. 3 was terrible. The raw sound of their debut album and the calculated psychosis of their follow up was amazing because they held nothing back. There was a lot of screaming and hatred in Corey's voice... I could feel his pain. Vol. 3 had none of that drive from the first two outings. I listened to that CD a total of two times... once, sitting in my room with the lyrics so I could fully experience it with no interruptions and once again, the next day to see if there had been something wrong with me the day prior. I still felt nothing. Hence, the absence of my excitement when I heard news of Slipknot coming out with a new album. I had no idea when it was coming out and it doesn't suprise me that it came out already without me knowing. Why am I saying all this? I'm pissed. That's right... i'm fucking pissed off. I feel completely alienated and used like a dirty whore. I see fat middle-school kids walking around with the latest Slipknot shirts while they've got their tortured look on their faces. The problem is I used to be one of those fat middle-school kids and now, I wear hawaiian shirts instead of band t-shirts. So, I must ask you... what the hell is my problem? Do I just not connect with the music anymore because of my life's situation? Have I grown out of it? Or have all the bands that I grew up loving gone soft and lost all their drive? Do they just not care, anymore? Are they churning out more CDs to just meet their contractual agreements? Are the gathered masses too stupid to see the talent of some bands because their too blinded by the pop/rap music they bump n' grind to on MTV? I just don't know, anymore. Slipknot, System of a Down, Mudvayne, Marilyn Manson, Tool... bands that I worshipped have all turned into soulless puppets of the music industry. It's sickening. Sorry to get so off-topic but Slipknot used to be the band I talked about all the time and now, I can't stand to hear their name uttered. I'll give the new album a listen and come back here to tear it a new one... however, my only hope is that it WON'T be shit and I when I do come back into this topic, i'll be the maggot I once was. |

I see where you're coming from and to answer you, yeah you probably did grow out of it. I used to be all about Korn and plenty of other nu-metal bands of the late 90s but i grew outta that i wasn't as angry anymore thats probably why i enjoy the new Slipknot. Corey's side project Stone Sour is another band i really enjoy. I like Slipknot's change the new album has some really heavy songs on it as well as some song ones like "Vermillion part 2" and "Circle". Vol.3 was my favourite Slipknot album for awhile but the new one at the moment is ripping it apart. If you didn't like Vol.3 you probably won't like All Hope Is Gone, it doesn't have the pissed off aggressive of the Iowa and Slipknot but it the band still carries some of the best lyrics in metal today, weather you like Corey or Slipknot the guy can write songs. It sucks that you're not a Knot fan anymore, but i can see where you're coming from. I felt the same way about some bands im longer a fan of (Korn). Bands change and evolve...some may not like it, its the way she goes. |

I used to like Slipknot, then I heard Napalm Death when I was 14 and started listening to metal. And this album has no hope of being album of the year when it has to stand against this beast:

Alright, so I finally got around to listening to this... My opinion hasn't changed much... ".execute." – Opening... no opinion. "Gematria (The Killing Name)" – The thrash-metal guitar solo makes it's debut on this album and for some reason, I know this isn't the last time i'll hear it. Everything else about this song is fucking awesome, though. "Sulfur" – I liked it... very hard, however, the Stonesour singing bullshit is heard along with their overused thrash-metal guitar solo. "Psychosocial" – I feel nothing... more Stonesour-shit (S3) and thrash-metal guitar solo (tmgs). It saddens me that this is one of the singles... "Dead Memories" – S3 and tmgs... feel nothing. "Vendetta" – Everything about this song is great except for the S3 tainting it. "Butcher's Hook" – This is just terrible... you'd think it'd be great from the name but it disappoints. "Gehenna" – I actually kind of liked this song... could have been great if it wasn't for the halloween sounds during parts of the song. That's just ridiculous. "This Cold Black" – Now, this is what i'm talking about... fucking raw Slipknot, right here. There's a tmgs but it actually sounds interesting/calculated and not random. "Wherein Lies Continue" – Kind of liked this... more S3 but the lyrics connect with me. "Snuff" – Wow. This came out of no where. It's definitely interesting... it sounds like it should be on a Stonesour CD but I gave it a listen and i'll just leave it as something that's interesting. The only reason I don't hate this song is because it connects with me on some level in my life, right now. However, I miss the "Scissors" and "Iowa" songs of the self-titled and Iowa albums... stop singing, Corey. "All Hope Is Gone" – Good single... nice way to end the CD. The tmgs makes one last appearance before letting my ears rest. Special edition bonus tracks Bonus Tracks: "Child of Burning Time" – Ugh... "Vermilion, Pt. 2" (Bloodstone mix) – I didn't like the regular version of this song. "'Til We Die" – *sigh* These bonus tracks are just here because they don't belong on a good Slipknot CD... they're B-sides, at best. Fuck. Ok, here's the deal... Slipknot as a whole was a fucking beast back in '99 and they ran strong for two amazing albums but, after they grew up... they got money... they experimented with side-projects... the beast was slain. I honestly don't think they will ever be the same. It's sad. I'm disheartened. I guess it's time to move on. Best wishes to the new generation of maggots, though... ...Slipknot helped me channel my anger all throughout high-school and I hope it helps some wave of fans through their hard times. I just liked Slipknot back when they sounded unique... ...now, they have a sound like any other metal/emo/rock band of today: SHITTY. |

you're comparing Slipknot to emo... lol that in fact is shitty I seen your point because i have been a fan for since 99 when the beast was unleashed..but bands gotta grow up, it sucks..at least they shed the nu-metal label that stuck with them that is complete bullshit in itself. |

The reason Corey has to sing alot more now is because if you scream for that length of time you fuck your voice up. Hence, if he carries on, he won't be able to sing anymore. Im just glad hes doing a little bit of screaming still. |

Yeah... I realize. The unfortunate thing is that pressure from the label will churn out the records just like every other signed artist. If I had my way, I would have been happy with the self-titled album and Iowa with a world tour every 5 years or so... ...I mean, it's not like they need any more money. If Corey is worried about making his vocal chords explode out of his throat, then tour for a month, take a month break, tour for month, take a month break, etc. etc. etc... ...I dunno. We demand so much, as fans... I can only imagine what the suits are telling them to do. |

Yeah exactly. And it does suck. So many bands lose stuff because of their record labels. For example, AFI promised us an EP last June. HOWEVER, the record label didn't like it, and over a year and a half later we still have got nothing. *sigh* |
