| Tuxedo: An unworthy reward?; Funny at first, but annoying now? | |

I am sure that there have been many topics about the Tuxedo on MGSF. But what does everybody think about it now? About an hour ago, I suddenly got pumped up to play MGS1 again. Then I got home, only to load my save file and see Snake take off his sneaking suit in the elevator to reveal his tuxedo. It really has put me off my playthrough. I know that I can start a fresh game, but that will mean listening to al of the codec calls at the begginning again, and skipping them takes a while too (due to the lack of being able to cancel the codec call like in all the other MGS games). The tuxedo was quite a cool and funny touch at the time. But does anybody get irritated with it now, like I do? Also, do you think that it is a bit of a crappy reward considering you have finished the game twice? Do you think perhaps we could have been given a better reward? Discuss. I like the tux myself. I like the person I am playing as (in this case snake) to look smart. |

I liked it. I thought the Tuxedo looks good on Snake. It also somewhat reminds me of James Bond too. |

Yeah, it's like Sn4ke says. It's probably something Kojima did to give you a James Bond-esque feel. Personally I loved it. Much better than the stupid (imo) shades in Sons of Liberty. |

I like it. I mean, after playing it twice and getting the tuxedo, we can only assume that you've done everything there was to do in MGS. You got both endings, blah blah blah. So the Tuxedo is kinda like a joke, it's meant to be simply funny instead of practical. It's more of an Easter Egg than a reward ( The bandana and the active camo, those were your rewards ). If you wanted to really play the thing all over again seriously, without Bandanas or Stealth Camos and the like, then you probably wouldn't mind going through the story again. So that's what New Game is for. =P Yeah I know sometimes you just want to play the game and not have to go through all the codec calls again, it's a shame you can't skip them. But hey, if you're going to start fresh anyway... =P |

I personally think the sneaking suit is cooler, in general. During a less serious play through, I appreciate the tux, however. Red Ninja is killer, too. |

I thought the tux was cool, but i still think it would be cool if you recieved Ocelot's Revolver or maybe even the bullet proof katana. |

The Tuxedo was something more of like Kojima saying 'Hey, you seen both endings of the game, got some good items too...what more do you want?' I personally didn't like it. |

I still would want it, but maybe you could have a choice. Tuxedo-or-Katana that deflects any atack.

I'm pretty sure Kojima included the Tux as a parody of James Bond, it certainly seems that way. I think the Tuxedo is pretty cool. There's nothing more hilarious than sneaking past inept guards or having a sniper duel while wearing a Tuxedo, it gives it that comic touch. (by the way, it only takes 5 minutes to get to the elevator) Edited by Roy Campbell, Dec 23 2008, 08:36 PM.

I believe the Tuxedo has a James Bond reference. Another thing, isn't the Ninja a different color after a few playthroughs as well? |

Yeah, it's on the record that it was meant to reference Bond, I'm quite sure. The katana might have been a cool reward, but a revolver would probably have the effect lost. I'm doubting that the PS1 would have had the capabilities to let the player generate ricochets effectively (among other things), as in Snake Eater. Not having first person view decreases the overall appeal of that idea for me, cool ricochets or not. Edited by [X] Entity, Dec 23 2008, 10:13 PM.

Your right- what about raven's gatiling gun? Its not like there's much to it. and you don't have to aim since its a gatiling gun, just keep firing. Rewards like these would be nice but maybe theres a reason kojima didn't put these into the game. Im sure he thought everything through. OR DID HE...

The gat would have been cool and I daresay more hilarious than the tux. I think he thought things through pretty well. He just seems like that kind of person. |

I'm pretty sure he did, but why not put these rewards in? The bandana and stealth camo are sweet, but putting weapons in instead just seems obivious. It is sopposed to be a stealth game though... |

Thanks for the heads up, but having played the game about 93912087802 times now I kind of know that by now I was just stating that the tuxedo can be annoying when you want to see Snake in his old skool Sneaking Suit. Edited by Solid Gally, Dec 24 2008, 01:22 AM.

Yep, the tux was a Bond reference. See the pre-credits sequence of "Goldfinger" (1964) to see Sean Connery's classic entrance. The Ninja's colour change to a blue and red suit was a reference to Spiderman. That's what I read at the time of MGS's release. SafetyCatch |
