I think it's a great movie, I think I even saw it in the movies when it was first released but it's shameless how Disney uses the movie (among many others) to shove anti-islam propaganda down kids' throats. |

The images in the beginning clearly tell the audience Scar and the hyenas are "bad" and "evil". They march like the nazis who were the embodiment of pure evil. All this boils down to the final picture at 2:51. You know moon can never look like that. Tell me that's not a reference towards islam and middle-east. Cartoons do this kind of stuff all the time. We used to study stuff like this in film school. Some can of course say these are just cartoons for kids but I personally find this a powerful media that often without people knowing affect the subconscious of a child's mind. You can say I'm full of it, I don't mind. I just find all this stuff quite interesting. Edited by Antii, Feb 10 2012, 09:13:55 PM.

I agree the Hitler reference is quite obvious, but I think you're jumping to conclusions if you claim that it's also anti-islam propaganda. I don't know if it is, but I'd say you need more than a moon to convince me.

Well the unnatural crescent moon seems like the islamic "crescent moon and star" (and Turkish flag) to me and considering the movie was made in 1994 around the time the americans were fighting in Irak, I don't think it's too far fetched. I'm not trying to convince anyone. Like I said this is just how I see that particular scene. Enjoy

there is no way that moon can subconsciously effect a childs mind, they would have to know about the crescent moon as a symbol for islam, which hardly any do, even if they did know, they would be too busy enjoying the film to give a shit. |

yeah, I agree with the professor. it would be one thing if they used a moon as their symbol or something, but as it is now it's just a cartoon-drawn (hence slightly unrealistic, like everything else in the movie) moon in the background of one scene. if that's anti-islam propaganda, they did a pretty poor job at it. |

The thing about cartoons is that whatever you see on screen, nothing is there by accident. Having seen that 40s Nazi germany cartoon with Donald Duck, they can do that shit in a non-subtle way as well. It all boils down to personal opinions when interpreting stuff that is or is not there. Just told you mine. It doesn't change the movie one way or another. I just view it my way. |

Recently got Netflix so I'm catching up on a lot of shows. Watched every episode of Breaking Bad in a week. One of the best shows ever made. Starting to watch Heroes, and I bought Big Bang Theory series 1-4 a few weeks ago and watched all them. |

Check out It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia on Netflix, it's one of the best comedies of all time. Give it a chance anyway... took me a few eps to get hooked. |

Smart words. Philadelphia indeed is one of the best comedies to appear in television in the past decade (along with Curb Your Enthusiasm). It's well written, it's got great actors and characters (Charlie is the shit) and its humor is not candicoated basic sitcom shit but deals with issues like prostitutes, drug use, beauty pageant and more. The last season was a disappointment but I hope the next one will raise the quality again. If there's one musical I actually want to see in my lifetime, it would be "Nightman Cometh". Anyone ever gone to a protest in front of an abortion clinic to pick up girls? Edited by Antii, Feb 12 2012, 04:43:27 PM.

Started finally to watch Star Trek (The Original Series). I have seen all the Trek movies and thought most of them were pretty good. Saw First Contact in the movies and liked that one. The borgs were a bit scary back then. Since Abrams is making a sequel to his movie next year or so I thought now's a good time to sink my teeth into the television show that started the phenomenon. I'm a Star Wars man myself but I've never had any grind towards Trek. While I don't think this is a type of situation Mia Wallace dfescribed as she said you can be a Beatles fan or an Elvis fan but you can't equally be both, I find it hard to imagine of myslef learning to love Star Trek as much as I do Star Wars. Nevertheless I want to learn to know the show and the characters better. Sorry Chaz, but Doctor Who will have to wait.

I concur with my fellow Sunny lovers. Watch it. And with Heroes don't go past season 1. No matter how good an actor Zachary Quinto is, it's not worth proceeding for. |
