Watching Iron Chef

Watabe vs. Iron Chef French Sakai

The ingredient they have to use is peaches. I love it when they have arbitrary items that one would have trouble making a full course with. I really love those battles where an Iron Chef must make a full course out of an ingredient that's completely foreign to their style of cuisine.

SPOORLOOS - The original VANISHING that was remade in 1993 with Kiefer Sutherland and Jeff Bridges. Ok film, better than the remake but I didn't like the antagonist at all. Didn't seem credible to me. Nice little film.

WORKING GIRL - Harrison Ford was charming as always but Melanie Griffith was just too much of a push-over. Good idea, but not that believable. Griffith did look surprisingly nice in lingerie. Even saw a nipple for a whole two seconds.

CONTAGION - Good cast but the movie was nothing special. What it did well was to show what kind of panic such an incident would start and how it would affect things. The last scene was unneeded.

ROCKETEER - Hadn't seen this in almost 20 years and it wasn't as good as I remember it to be. Too tongue-in-cheek and too Disney. Jennifer Connolly was cute.

FISTFUL OF DOLLARS - OK, but nothing compared to the next two Leone films starring Clint. Morricone's music is the strongest aspect. The film's like an interlude that paves way to the rest of the trilogy just like BATMAN BEGINS did.

DEJA VU - Totally different than I expected. Nice script. Scott's best film since TRUE ROMANCE.

KILL LIST - The last 20 minutes of the movie; what the hell did the movie turn into. What a disappointment. Took me a while to realise the other guy is the "bike messenger" from SPACED.

Cop out. So funny so far, I'm loving.
I thought COP OUT was terrible. I had high hopes for it since it was directed by Smith (sadly not written by him, which was the first blunder) and stars Tracy Morgan (who's damn funny in 30 ROCK) and Bruce Willis (well, he's Bruce Willis) but it was such a disappointment. The script was so terrible and the characters so unfunny. Throwing Star Wars jokes here and there didn't help this time at all. I hoped that would've been Smith's only fluke but RED STATE managed to be even worse. His next film - according to him - will be his last and I'm sort of relieved. He hasn't made great movies since CLERKS 2.

Rewatched a few films this past week.

JAWS was one of them that movie is just incredible. Even though it was Spielberg's first feature movie (that's non TVM) it shows the guy will be huge. The amount of cool shots and scenes he can do on a little boat was ingenious.

DISTRICT 9 I hadn't seen since it left the theaters and it's still great, but not as amazing as when I saw it the first time. There's some genuinely unique stuff in that movie.

ROCKY BALBOA I also watched the first time since it came out and I still think it's the third best film in the franchise.

HALLOWEEN - CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS. Oh my god. I'm glad there's only one more film for me to watch in this series and that's RESURRECTION. I don't think I could take any more of these shitty movies after that one.

EDIT: Just finished ALCATRAZ. Very disappointing. I didn't care about the characters at all and even though the premise had potential the execution was so typical and boring.
I thought it was funny in an extremely CHEESY way. But thats me I guess.

I agree on the movie being cheesy but funny didn't come to mind at any point.

Saw SKYFALL an hour ago. More in it's own topic. A pretty good movie, a huge improvement on the crappy QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

Don't have a TV at the moment so I'm checking out YouTube. Watching Conan O'Brien play Skyrim. He's far more funnier than AVGN or Irate Gamer or whatever, and he's improvising.

RED PLANET - Really clunky. Kilmer is awful and the plot is a mess.

THE BOURNE LEGACY - I hoped that Renner would make a great leading man for the series but I was really disappointed. After watching the film I thought this might've been the director's first action movie and I turned out to be right. Not a good film at all. I think the first 20 minutes was the best part of the film. Love Weisz though.

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE - And I thought the first one was bad. What a load of crap.

I'm not a big fan of Oliver Stone but I think JFK is his best film along with PLATOON. JFK has a really great cast and I think Oldman is perfect in his role.

LOOPER. Good old-fashioned character-driven science fiction flick. Some really cool scenes. Had a 30-minute lull in the middle. Loved BRICK, liked this very much. Rian Johnson can make good films.

Pie- they still make that show? I remember they went on some goofy hiatus after season 2. After that I never saw it again. They took too long and my interest faded. Glad to hear it's kicking ass though. Loived it when it was in its prime.

I've been at work watching Avatar: The Last Airbender eating pizza and sippin pop. Good day more or less.
Wow, haven't checked this thread in a while if this is the newest post for me.

Yup, they still make that show and shall continue to do so for at least one more season, hopefully longer. And it is most definitely still in its prime.

About to watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop for the first time. I'm a Kevin James fan so hopefully it's decent.

Here's what I've been watching so far this month.

JERICHO - It took me a few years but I finally finished watching the second season. The show was decent and I don't mind it ending after only 29 episodes. Not very memorable.

THE KILLING - First half is quite slow but then it ups the ante and the final half is pretty great. It's quite obvious the robbery itself was an inspiration for such movies as HEAT and THE DARK KNIGHT. 4/5

WAKING LIFE - Some of the conversations were quite interesting but it's gets nauseating to watch it after a while. When you put the director's earlier films SLACKER and SCANNER DARKLY together, this is what you get pretty much on the point. 3/5

DARK ANGEL aka. I COME IN PEACE - A rather shitty science fiction/cop movie starring Dolph Lundgren. The disc-throwing blonde alien was pretty funny to watch I admit. 2/5

PATHS OF GLORY - A gloriously shot war film. Great performances all around especially by Kirk Douglas. I love it how you won't get to see the enemy once in the entire movie. I've yet to see LOLITA and then I've seen all of Stan's movies. 4/5

LÅT DEN RÄTTE KOMMA IN - It hurts me to say this but swedish know how to make movies so much better than us. I don't generally like vampire flicks myself but this was so different with great young leads that I really enjoyed it. Some really cool scenes. 4/5

THIN BLUE LINE - A documentary of an incident from the seventies in the US where a man shot a cop when he pulled him over on the side of the road and an innocent man was put in jail. 3/5

GHOST OF MARS - You'd never believe the director of this movie made such classic movies as HALLOWEEN and THE THING. Everything about this movie sucks except Henstridge's figure. Ice Cube is such a bad actor, oh dear. The luscious Pam Grier was totally wasted in this movie. 2/5

NEAR DARK - Early Kathryn Bigelow movie about vampires. You have the ALIENS/TERMINATOR trio here, Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton and Jenette Goldstein. Beautifully shot and a bit different than your average horror films from the 80s. 3/5

V2 - JÄÄTYNYT ENKELI - This lousy finnish detective movie shot partly in my old film school. 2/5

EXORCIST - I hadn't seen this in like 15 years and it was just as great as I remembered it to be. This truly is one of the scariest films ever made. So damn well directed by Friedkin. 4,5/5

THE GREAT DICTATOR - Can't believe it took me this long to see this classic of a movie. Some very funny scenes, but I prefer for instance GOLD RUSH quite a lot over this. 3,5/5

THE BOX - A really disappointing movie from R.Kelly who made his impressive debut DONNIE DARKO back in 2001. Starts off decent when it's a basic thriller but then when the supernatural kicks in it goes downhill fast. 2,5/5

I watched The Expendables 2 for the first time a couple nights ago.

I really didn't expect to like it a whole lot but I did enjoy it. JCVD played a great bad guy. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have cared for the movie.

I also saw Jack and Jill this weekend.

Everyone seems to hate on this movie but I got a few laughs out of it.
