Been watching mostly of horror flicks this week. SLEEPAWAY CAMP (1983) - Kids at a summer camp and someone kills them off one by one. Acting is quite bad and there's not much to this movie but I must admit the ending twist surprised me. 2,5/5 SLITHER (2006) - A horror movie with CG tentacle-monsters and citizens turned into zombie-like creatures. Nathan Fillion (FIREFLY) and Elizabeth Banks (ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO) make it worthwile. Some nice gross-out moments. The end is like from a Resident Evil game. 3/5 WARLOCK (1989) - A witchcraft movie. Hadn't seen this in almost 20 years. It's not very good but it's a fun watch. Lori Singer is pretty hot. Julian Sands has a great ponytail. The 18th century language sounds so ridiculous. 2/5 THE WARRIORS (1979) - Walter Hill's cult dystopic future flick. Gangs fight over turfs. Bandanas, vests, ghettos, knives and baseball bats. Pretty good. 3,5/5 PRIVATE PARTS (1996) - Howard Stern stars as himself in this biographical film. Among the many boobies we see young Jenna Jameson all nude. Funny film, Paul Giamatti as "pig vomit" is hilarious. He's one of the best male screamers in my opinion. 3,5/5 TREMORS II - AFTERSHOCKS (1996) - Really liked the first one back in the day, this was only decent. Fred Ward makes it worth watching. At places has some nice looking CGI for a movie this cheap. 2,5/5 HOUSE OF THE DEVIL (2009) - Builds tension very nicely. The ending was disappointing. The leading lady is pretty damn cute. 3/5 ZOMBI 2 aka ZOMBIE aka ZOMBIE FLESH-EATERS (1979) - A cult classic. The underwater zombie vs shark fight scene is probably best known scene of the whole movie. I'm not normally into the zombies-from-voodoo concept but here it works pretty well. Great soundtrack. 3/5 PHANTASM (1979) - Another cult classic but it was pretty disappointing. There's a couple of nice scenes and nice boobs but that's pretty much it. The music is the best part of this film. 2/5 Edited by Antii, Jan 25 2013, 12:59:32 AM.

I'm half-way through INDIE GAME - THE MOVIE and I must say this film is really inspiring. It makes me feel like I've got to put more effort and time into writing music, making videos, drawing, recording podcasts et al and show the world what I can do instead of half-assing it. Great film so far and it makes me really want to play these games (FEZ, BRAID, SUPER MEATBOY) too. |

Seen that. I found it kind of depressing. I think the developers gave up too much to pull it off |

I think it's admirable that people sacrifice stuff to create something that's been their dream for a long time and are really passionate about. Things don't usually happen over-night but they take time and real effort and true passion to get to your goals in life. That's how I personally view this movie and for that reason it really inspires me to use my own creativity more and just say "fuck it" and do your thing. |

I completely get that, now more than ever, and I suppose if to them they feel like they've invested that much time into something and found it to be enriching and rewarding then all the power to them. But it just seemed like such a depressing journey that ended in a "yay" rather than a "FUCK YES I WOULDN'T TRADE THAT IN FOR ANYTHING THOSE YEARS WERE WELL SPENT" Maybe it's because I've started to develop a disdain for video games. Mind you I do respect the creativity the indie scene is bringing to the table |

Yeah I read about you not being that much into games anymore. I think the reason they didn't go nuts from joy when the games got rave reviews after being released but instead went 'yay' was because they invested so much time and mental strenght in creating them. The creating experience sucked them dry. And when they noticed the games are doing really well and got that load off their shoulders, they were so physically tired and mentally exhausted and just so relieved that all the stress and 4-hour nights of sleep were finally over that they didn't care so much anymore. It's like when I wanted the NES for christmas back in the mid-eighties or whatever and my folks did the mistake of fooling me into thinking I didn't get it. I opened all the presents and no NES. I cried my eyes out. Then my mom goes "wait, I think there's still one more present". I opened it and it was the NES. It was cool to get it but it wasn't as cool as it would've if I had just gotten it before all the tears. That story might not have anything to do with the subject on hand but I thought it was a similar experience in some way. I don't know, I just really enjoyed the movie as I just finished it a couple of minutes ago. And it inspired me enough to try harder to get my creative juices flowing. At this moment. But as we know these rushes often pass and tomorrow I'll feel exactly the same as I did before I started watching the movie. Anyways, a great documentary. Edited by Antii, Jan 27 2013, 01:41:07 AM.

I watched Reservoir Dogs again today, great movie. I love Quentin Tarantino, there's not a single one of his movies that I dislike. I've already seen Django Unchained twice and that was great! |

Films I saw this week. DJANGO - El Mariachi in the old-west. A pretty cool movie. 3,5/5 DEAD POOL - The plot is so un-Dirty Harry. It was fun to see Jim Carrey as a drug addict dancing to "Welcome to the Jungle" while wiggling a bit like Michael Jackson. 2,5/5 PEOPLE VS GEORGE LUCAS - Some fun stuff in here but not that intriguing. 3/5 TREKKIES - Oh man some of those Trek fans take this shit seriously. 3/5 EVERYTHING OR NOTHING: THE UNTOLD STORY OF 007 - A good Bond documentary that wasn't just about the main actors. Interviews of all Bonds except Connery. 4/5 DEATH PROOF - My least favorite Tarantino flick but includes a bunch of nice close-ups of female asses and some well shot car-chase sequences. 3/5 |
